AIBU to go out for a walk when I'm supposed to be self isolating

Last week we discovered someone in my household has coronavirus.
Dd is staying downstairs as she was here for one night that became 10 days.!
Apart from the usual financial hit it is a small house.
Dh has been his usual moody self and dd has been quite hostile too.
Today we were getting along with some sorting out of old school bits and memorabilia when dd started swearing at me.
I have zero tolerance for this and told her so.Then dh started on about I have a small photo of my late df in the living room while he doesn't have any of his parents.Got a bit nasty and I said I would remove it.
Understandably I'm upset trapped in my room.
It's day 8 of isolation .I live near fields I can walk in avoiding people.
I'm double jabbed with a negative lateral flow test which I've done daily.
Surely I can go for a quick walk.?

@HyacynthBucket

So many people feel they are the exception to every rule. Self-isolating was imposed for a reason - why does anyone think they should overrule it because they are a special case? What if you have an accident when out, OP? If someone comes to your aid, either passer-by or paramedic, you will be putting them at risk, which is not fair. Tough to stay in, but making this a mental health issue is going too far.
She’s talking about a walk in the fields, not climbing Everest in flip flops. She’s more likely to have an accident at home - fall down the stairs, burns, cuts, animal bite, slips, trips, and so on - than strolling through a field.
Chloemol · 07/08/2021 19:13

No you can’t

I don’t care what others say on here cases are high, it can spread fast

Just do as you are asked

clarepetal · 07/08/2021 19:14

I think you should go for the walk x Flowers

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 07/08/2021 19:14

@Cosybelles that’s what my point was - it doesn’t make sense that the PCR test says it’s ok to walk to post your test, but people on this thread are saying it’s not ok for OP to go for a walk. The rules are completely nonsensical. There would be other ways to get the test sent off that don’t include walking to a post box.

I’m completely agreeing with you by the way - I just mean, it’s either ok to go for a walk or it’s not and if their own guidance to post a bloody test back is to walk…then a walk is ok 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cookerhood · 07/08/2021 19:14

Go for a walk. I would. I can walk for an hour without going near anyone else.where is the harm? No different to going in my garden

whynotwhatknot · 07/08/2021 19:16

Last year i wold have said no dont-this year right now our so called leadre doesnt seem to think he has to so sod it just go

in two weeks time you can do it not much is going to change

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/08/2021 19:17

@TheReluctantPhoenix

I am shocked how many take the isolation thing literally.

I have always taken my children out for walks when isolating due to school contact. 10 days indoors is just not healthy. They wore masks and avoided people.

You spread illnesses via contact, not leaving a house.

You’re surprised that people stick to the law and don’t break it Hmm
WaltzingTilda · 07/08/2021 19:17

I wouldn't go for a walk but I wouldn't blame you if you did. Not sure how it's not okay to go for a walk now but it be okay in 9 days time. Not much is going to change between now and 9 days I don't think in terms of the virus or the self isolating rules unless they do a u turn on that one.

DismantledKing · 07/08/2021 19:19

I don’t care what others say on here cases are high, it can spread fast

Yeah, it’s endemic in empty fields.

TwoLeftElbows · 07/08/2021 19:19

If you've been living with someone with covid for the last 8 days, I wouldn't. Negative tests done while you're isolating with an infectious person are no guarantee you won't test positive tomorrow, and we know that LFT are most likely to miss early stages of infection. Round here we've heard of several parents catching it from their kids when double vaccinated.

Easy to say "use your common sense". Mine would keep me home in this scenario.

And why does anyone care what you say? Lol
toolazytothinkofausername · 07/08/2021 19:27

Either go early in the morning or later in the evening.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/08/2021 19:32

Go for the walk, but only late at night when the chances of bumping into someone is almost zeo.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 07/08/2021 19:32

We seem to have v polarised ideas about COVID, not helped by an entirely inconsistent government policy:

‘It is cool to have a dinner party for 20, even though someone’s been pinged. Freedom, right? And, it’s the flu, anyway, don’t fear it…’

Or

‘It’s spreading fast, stick to the law, a walk in an empty field could be deadly…’

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 07/08/2021 19:33

If you won't pass anyone just do it! Take a make just in case anyone does come near you though

Faevern · 07/08/2021 19:40

Have you got a dog? The rules allow you to take your dog for a walk, but not yourself.
Go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️

DinosaurDiana · 07/08/2021 19:49

If it was me I’d be walking my dog twice a day, so yes.

Genuine question who is it going to spread to in the middle of an empty field A little common sense is required here
TheGenealogist · 07/08/2021 19:53

WHY DO THE PEOPLE WHO WANT EVERYONE TO STAY THE FUCK AT HOME HAVE TO WRITE IN BLOCK CAPITALS?

It's very tiresome.

I'd go out OP. I'm probably either granny murdering selfish bastard too, or perhaps someone who knows that Covid isn't the only thing to worry about and that taking care of yourself is important too.

DancingQueen85 · 07/08/2021 19:54

I don't think this is the right thing to do if you've actually had contact with someone in your household. Bit different if it was a random ping from the ap or whole class school isolation

Wobblelmyheadplease · 07/08/2021 19:54

@Faevern

No they don't.

They allow you to have someone else come and take your dog for a walk.

Why are people making stuff up?

Why do people make up their own rules when the rules are very clear?

It's very tiresome.

pastaparadise · 07/08/2021 19:58

Of course go for a walk in an empty field. You're allowed in your own garden, which is probably closer to others. And don't feel guilty, you're fine.
