AIBU to go out for a walk when I'm supposed to be self isolating

Last week we discovered someone in my household has coronavirus.
Dd is staying downstairs as she was here for one night that became 10 days.!
Apart from the usual financial hit it is a small house.
Dh has been his usual moody self and dd has been quite hostile too.
Today we were getting along with some sorting out of old school bits and memorabilia when dd started swearing at me.
I have zero tolerance for this and told her so.Then dh started on about I have a small photo of my late df in the living room while he doesn't have any of his parents.Got a bit nasty and I said I would remove it.
Understandably I'm upset trapped in my room.
It's day 8 of isolation .I live near fields I can walk in avoiding people.
I'm double jabbed with a negative lateral flow test which I've done daily.
Surely I can go for a quick walk.?

As long as you can walk where you won't see see people then go for a walk. Do give anyone you may see a wide berth though.
Tell your partner to piss off regarding the photo. I'm not one for having photos out and the only photo on display in my house is of my late mother and late grandmother together. My sister jokes that you have to dead to have your photo up in my house!

The risk is miniscule but the benefits for your mental health are significant.

imagine if people had not be so selfish and had stopped banging on about their "mental health" over public health and gave a toss about infecting others...

TheReluctantPhoenix · 07/08/2021 18:51

@EleanorOlephantisjustfine,

What aspect of going for a walk (other than breaking a rule) are you sick of?

Do you think there is actual risk of the OP spreading COVID or is it more like keeping Kosher or Hallam to you? You don’t know why the rule is there but think someone must know better…

‘Banging on about their mental health’?

You sound nice and empathetic

Go for a walk. Go every day. Even if you did have covid, you couldn't pass it to anyone in the open air keeping at least 2 metres away from them ffs.

HyacynthBucket · 07/08/2021 18:56

So many people feel they are the exception to every rule. Self-isolating was imposed for a reason - why does anyone think they should overrule it because they are a special case?

What if you have an accident when out, OP? If someone comes to your aid, either passer-by or paramedic, you will be putting them at risk, which is not fair.
Tough to stay in, but making this a mental health issue is going too far.

Hadjab · 07/08/2021 18:56

If it’s good enough for BoJo, it’s good enough for you! Go for that walk, you won’t infect anybody, especially as most infections occur after at least 15mins of close contact of 2m or less.

TheGoogleMum · 07/08/2021 18:56

Yes just keep a good distance from others and don't go in any buildings

Muggee · 07/08/2021 18:56

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend

In less than 2 weeks you won’t be required to isolate at all.
Precisely. If there is somewhere you can walk and genuinely won't see anyone else or come within any sort of distance of them then go for it.
MauveMagnolia · 07/08/2021 18:56

Yes, you need to be sensible. Walk away.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 07/08/2021 18:58

I have Covid and so does my daughter. We’ve been going out into our garden for fresh air and a run around. It’s not healthy to stay cooped up inside for ten days.

The thing I don’t understand is that my PCR test instructions said it was ok to WALK to a specialist post box to post my test in. I don’t drive and it was half a mile away. It specifically said I could walk there, and not to get public transport - which makes sense, obviously. So I did because how else could I post it? So if it’s ok to walk half a mile down a road is it not ok for OP to go for a walk in an empty field?

Janaih · 07/08/2021 18:59

What if you have an accident when out, OP?

Was waiting for this old chestnut Grin

Suzi888 · 07/08/2021 19:00

Your DH sounds vile. I’d go for walk, your safety is paramount.

User5827372728 · 07/08/2021 19:01

@AttaGirrrrl

I thought Her DD had covid and is staying at their house; hence in her household!

catfunk · 07/08/2021 19:01

Yeah I'd go tbh. I've been a stickler for the rules throughout but in 10 days time you'd be allowed out and if it's a remote field you won't see anyone then I think you can use your judgement here. You won't be putting anyone at risk.

Cosybelles · 07/08/2021 19:02

The benefits of going for your walk far outweigh any risk. Go for it.

catinthewindow · 07/08/2021 19:03

If you lived in Wales or it was next week you’d be allowed to go for a walk … I’d include that in my decision making

Spectre8 · 07/08/2021 19:04

Actually if you read the self isolation guide it says this: Take exercise within your home, garden or private outdoor space.

So basically I live in a terraced house with a garden. I could still go out in my garden despite being in close proximity to people esp if they are in their garden!

Not sure exactly about where you live enough but sounds like your in the coutryside if your near fields as opposed to right next to neighbours like me.

If I lived in the countryside with no direct neighbours I would do it.

Seems ridiculous. Imagine if you lived in the middle of nowhere, no neighbours for miles would you seriously just stay in your house. Heck no I would go walking in the fields near me knowing there is a high change i won't meet anyone and if I did its not like im going to be going right up to them breathing all over them for over 15 mins which is what they say its takes.

This is because the chance of passing it on when you're outside is virtually zero. Plus the test has to get there somehow. Plus the overwhelming majority of people sending in tests don't have covid.
WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 07/08/2021 19:04

What if she had an accident at home?

KentuckyCriedFricken · 07/08/2021 19:05

Double jabbed, negative test and you’ve been in isolation for days. It’s ridiculous. Go for a walk. If your vaccine, isolation and negative tests aren’t enough for some people, nothing ever will be. You’re talking about a walk in the fields, not kissing everyone in a packed stadium. The Doom and gloom crowd will tell you that you absolutely cannot even open the front door. But it’s not the Black Death.

Sitting back and waiting for the onslaught of “it’s because of people like you that we are still in this mess”.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 07/08/2021 19:06

I’d go. As long as you’re sure you can socially distance and you are outside your not going to pass it on even if you have it.

bellalou1234 · 07/08/2021 19:07

I would

Common sense: Yes you should
