Wait to you get to the point where your teenagers outgrow their shoes so you wear them instead.

Or you have a fussy daughter who made a great fuss about buying a particular of shoes only to decide a few weeks later that she no longer likes them. That's where my dodgy brightly coloured Converse shoes come from.

Lots of aging mums I know do the same. Perhaps we are cool?

Eatingsoupwithafork · 07/08/2021 19:19

I was expecting something horrific, these are… trainers! Why would these be controversial.

ShitPoetryClub · 07/08/2021 19:20

I thought this was going to be about roller skates.
Even then you are not too old. I bought myself some new ones recently and I'm 52. Xx

ShitPoetryClub · 07/08/2021 19:21

Gah, sorry for the above kisses. Was also texting DD whilst posting.

Ladywinesalot · 07/08/2021 19:22

I had a pair in silver grey.
Not worth the hype…

greenbluewho · 07/08/2021 19:24

YABU as they're vile !

cakeandcustard · 07/08/2021 19:26

I bought some at the age of 39 - do it! Grin

Kanaloa · 07/08/2021 19:51

My son has very similar ones. He’s 11 but very trendy so I’d guess they’re pretty cool at the moment! MIL bought them for his birthday, I couldn’t believe the price for a pair of trainers. I wouldn’t say they’re ‘vile’ or awful, they’re just trainers. Bit pricey but it’s your money.

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2021 19:53

Are you closer to 38 or 40?
Because that will make a big difference

OR stop being daft and buy them if you like/can afford them

True.

Once the clock strikes midnight on your 40th birthday you must remove the Nikes and replace them with Rieker.

Was hoping for done hot pants.

Of course you can buy trainers!

diamondpony80 · 07/08/2021 20:11

They just look like an ordinary pair of trainers? I just buy whatever trainers I like and have never considered whether or not they were age appropriate. In fact I once ended up getting the same trainers as 17 year old DS (but in a nicer color!). He complimented me on my good taste rather than telling me I was too old for them. Is there supposed to be a particular type of trainer for age 40+?

hyperbole001 · 07/08/2021 20:13

I think you should wear whatever you want. I personally didn't like those trainers in the 90's and I still think they're hideous, but you crack on! I'm sure you'd find some of my footwear choices questionable too Grin

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/08/2021 20:16

What an odd question. I was expecting a pic of something really off the wall (which of course you could wear too!) but these are really bland. Either way, if you like em buy em, your age isn’t an issue…

nixso29 · 07/08/2021 20:16

Im 38 and in the last month I have bought myself a pair of Air Max 90s, Air Max 2090s, and Adidas Ozweegos. Not one single fook given about what age i am, I live in trainers and I love them all so I dont really give a hoot what anyone else thinks!

LavendulaAngustifolia · 07/08/2021 20:18

You have to pull my air max off my cold dead feet.

5128gap · 07/08/2021 20:43

I think all women have a duty to buy and wear whatever they like without a single thought to some made up notion of age propriety. If we keep following these stupid rules about what we can't do at any given age it just keeps perpetuating it, restricting women's ability to express themselves and find joy in what they wear.

Duchess379 · 07/08/2021 20:45

I'm 45 & love my trainers. Adidas Superstars are my go to's. Life is too short, you want them, buy them!

Quirrelsotherface · 07/08/2021 20:59

My dad wears these. He is 94

When you wish there was a 'like' button for MN.

ohthatbloodycat · 07/08/2021 21:11

Go for it! That's a good price reduction too!

Rabbitheadlights · 07/08/2021 21:18

They are in footlocker for £75 and £65 in JD sports in upto size 5.5 obviously no good if you have bigger feet than that but just incase.

BizzyIzzyfruitpie · 07/08/2021 21:39

I’ve got a pair similar (they’re 95’s) and I’m 10 years older than you!

omgthepain · 07/08/2021 23:27

In my eyes trainers are sports/gym wear so I would buy them for that

Not to walk round in I don't understand that at any age

But if you like them buy them although £100 for trainers seems rather excessive to me

Tiramiwho · 07/08/2021 23:36

I'm 52 and live in trainers. I wouldn't buy these because I am a cheapwad and usually spend between 10 and 15 squid on supermarket/Matalan/Primark trainers. Being too old for them would never enter my mind 🙂
