To ask about bagged delivery's

I currently do online shopping for my grandparents. One is bedbound and the other has various mobility and health issues I do not live locally nor do other family hence why it is done online.

We were previously paying for the tray liners which meant that my nan could just scoop it all up and drag it inside. Recently it seems that all shops apart from Ocado have stopped this service. Last week after some research we opted for asda as it said if we left a delivery note and reusable bags on the doorstep the driver would pack them however this turned into the driver saying it wasn't his job which has shaken the confidence of my Nan.

Have I missed a main supermarket that still offer bags/tray liners please

Waitrose and Morrisons both deliver in bags if you ask them to (there is a small charge for the bags).

WovenFish · 06/08/2021 19:02

Iceland use bags, I’ve discovered recently. I haven’t been able to select bags with Morrison’s or Asda for ages. Perhaps I’ve missed the option to when checking out.

I haven’t used Iceland until recently but they have a reasonable selection of products and also options to order for delivery on the same day if you order in the morning.

MiloAndEddie · 06/08/2021 19:10

Our Morrison’s shopping comes in bags, don’t remember seeing an option at check out so assume it’s standard. They’ll then take the bags back the next week

StarfishDish · 06/08/2021 19:12

Morrisons doesn't come in bags. Only the meat does! That may vary on location though Smile

Flavabobble · 06/08/2021 19:13

Iceland use plastic bags, Amazon prime fresh delivers in big strong paper bags

Stuckhere2021 · 06/08/2021 19:13

We’ve being using Iceland and it’s great. They do a lot of branded products now so it’s not just the cheap stuff I remember from my youth. And they do deliver in bags. But you probably couldn’t get everything you need.

strawberrymilkshakeisdelicious · 06/08/2021 19:15

Agree with PP about Iceland - we've recently started using them too. They are pretty fab actually. It's free next day delivery if you spend over £35. And if you haven't been in one recently you may not realise it's quite good these days! A lot of fresh food too.

Another idea might be to phone their local Tesco/morrisons etc and ask for the supervisor or manager of the delivery service - they might be able to discuss a way to help? They might be able to assign a certain driver or tell you a time slot where a driver can help etc? Surely they have to help elderly, vulnerable, disabled people. Etc

Winnithegreat · 06/08/2021 19:16

Our morrisons comes in bags too. Has always done. We give them back for recycling every week. I can’t remember if this was ever an active choice or if it is standard practice.

ilovesooty · 06/08/2021 19:16

Iceland minimum order for free delivery has just gone up from £35 to £40. The bag charge has increased from 50p to 80p.

squiddybear · 06/08/2021 19:16

Thanks all. Some good leads!

Iceland kept us going during the lockdown when we couldn't get a delivery slot anywhere else actually!

Saucery · 06/08/2021 19:19

Waitrose have a bag option for 80p.

Goodtohear · 06/08/2021 19:20

Tesco will bring your shopping into the house if your disabled /elderly just need to ask or i ask them to put it into my own bags. Not sure if different stores have different rules. Also with tesco you can leave a message in the delivery instructions section.

Smartiepants79 · 06/08/2021 19:20

Our morrisons comes bagged.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 06/08/2021 19:22

Ocado - and they pay you 5 pence for each bag you return (doesn’t even have to be theirs)

swampytiggaa · 06/08/2021 19:22

I pick for Morrisons. Surprised to read that some places are still bagging… we’ve been told definitely not for months now. Understood it was a company wide decision.

shinynewapple21 · 06/08/2021 19:24

Iceland deliver in bags . When I used to order for my parents they would take the bags into the kitchen for them too, but this was pre-Covid .

Anjo2011 · 06/08/2021 19:24

Waitrose free delivery over £40. 80p for bag option.

Tiis · 06/08/2021 19:26

Recently ordered from morrisons and it didn't come bagged and no option to ask it to be.

RaindropsonPiglets · 06/08/2021 19:34

@yodaforpresident

Morrison here are bag free and no option to add

But you can order at 10pm for next day delivery and very helpful drivers

RaindropsonPiglets · 06/08/2021 19:34

If you have big bags ready then Morrisons will transfer the shopping into them

RaindropsonPiglets · 06/08/2021 19:35

@Smartiepants79

Our morrisons comes bagged.
Is it still from Ocado rather than a branch?
Redglitter · 06/08/2021 19:37

Morrisons stopped the bag option a while ago.

If Tesco is an option as pp said they'll take it into the house if you put in the delivery note that the householders are elderly and need help

jessycake · 06/08/2021 19:39

I use waitrose and pay for the bags , I reuse them as bin liners so I don't concider them wasted .

geillisduncan · 06/08/2021 19:41

Another one for Iceland. Like their fish. All comes in bags. So much easier.
