To ask about bagged delivery's

I currently do online shopping for my grandparents. One is bedbound and the other has various mobility and health issues I do not live locally nor do other family hence why it is done online.

We were previously paying for the tray liners which meant that my nan could just scoop it all up and drag it inside. Recently it seems that all shops apart from Ocado have stopped this service. Last week after some research we opted for asda as it said if we left a delivery note and reusable bags on the doorstep the driver would pack them however this turned into the driver saying it wasn't his job which has shaken the confidence of my Nan.

Have I missed a main supermarket that still offer bags/tray liners please

My mum bought boxes that fold down and have wheels and an extending handle. Usually either the driver swaps it to the new box or they hold it up while my mum puts the shopping in. Might be worth looking into if you can't find somewhere with bags.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 06/08/2021 19:49

Asda has been bagless since the beginning of may where I am.

HyacynthBucket · 06/08/2021 19:50

Waitrose. They have started charging 80p for shopping delivered in bags. But they are re-usable and there is usually a lot of them because the minimum order for grocery deliveries is £40. Slots are hard to get though.

FawnFrenchieMum · 06/08/2021 19:53

My Morrison’s is still using bags. I alternate between Morrison’s and Iceland (I’ve been really impressed by Iceland though) and both come in bags.

Tealightsandd · 06/08/2021 19:54

@jessycake

I use waitrose and pay for the bags , I reuse them as bin liners so I don't concider them wasted .
I'm the same. Reuse the bags.

I alternate my grocery shop. I specifically only use those that offer bags.

Ocado, Waitrose, Iceland all do them.
I haven't used Iceland for a few months (so it might've very recently changed) but their bags are great - big and strong. Very useful for reusing.

DancesWithTortoises · 06/08/2021 19:56

Tesco will carry it into the kitchen and unpack on the counter for you.

PlasticEgg · 06/08/2021 19:57

Yeah Iceland all the way.

Btw just as an aside what is the actual fucking point of bagless deliveries? I mean my shopping still has plenty of fucking plastic, just not any I can use to carry it up the three flights of stairs to my apartment ie no plastic that is useful to me. Is it really just supermarkets ticking a box at the expense of their customers?

Yes same here or just return any excess bags during the next delivery.

I'm unsure if they still do so, but Sainsbury’s used to put my mother's shopping into her large shopping trolley for her on delivery once they stopped supplying plastic bags. 🌹

missnevermind · 06/08/2021 20:01

We use Tesco and Asda. Both have stopped doing bagged deliveries. I am disabled and have a note on my shopping. They will carry the crates inside and empty them onto our dinning table for me. Another option if they don't want the driver indoor is is we keep washing baskets by the door and transfer from the delivery baskets into out own baskets. I am then able to push/manouver my own baskets to the kitchen to put away.

nokidshere · 06/08/2021 20:02

Tesco bring it into my kitchen and unload it onto the counter for me. One or two of them even offer to put it away 😁

mineofuselessinformation · 06/08/2021 20:04

Sainsbury's bring it in for my frail and CEV DM.

PumpkinKlNG · 06/08/2021 20:04

Definitely Iceland’s, so much easier than having to pick up each individual item!

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 06/08/2021 20:07

@swampytiggaa

I pick for Morrisons. Surprised to read that some places are still bagging… we’ve been told definitely not for months now. Understood it was a company wide decision.
I think that the deliveries which come direct from a warehouse are still bagged - mine certainly are (I’ve been having deliveries from Morrison’s for years, since they first started to offer home delivery).
TheWayTheLightFalls · 06/08/2021 20:10

I’m pregnant and fairly immobile and Sainsbury’s have been happily transferring things into my trays / bags at the door.

godmum56 · 06/08/2021 20:13

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle

Ocado - and they pay you 5 pence for each bag you return (doesn’t even have to be theirs)
Its 10p now because the compulsory charge went up
Mummyoflittledragon · 06/08/2021 20:17

@nokidshere
@DancesWithTortoises

Are Tesco bringing it in again then? They stopped offering that service with the pandemic...

swampytiggaa · 06/08/2021 20:31

@MrsTulipTattsyrup we are a store that only started home delivery in response to the pandemic so we pick from store 😊 we only bag meat fish and milk and substitutions

nokidshere · 06/08/2021 20:51

@Mummyoflittledragon they never stopped really, you just have to ask. In The comments box at the end of your order I just write - Will need shopping bringing into the kitchen please. They wear masks and have sanitizer. That message will stay there until you remove it even for future orders.

Onthebrink87 · 06/08/2021 20:59

I was isolating in July and made a couple of orders from Morrisons via Amazon. They don't have the full range of products but still plenty of choice. If you spend £40 you get free same day delivery and select a 2 hour window, all delivered in sturdy paper bags and the delivery drivers were great! They also text whilst picking the shopping If there is something unavailable with a suggested substitute which you can accept or decline.

Ok thanks for the info nokids. The delivery guys refused whrn I asked even though I said I’m disabled. I’ll add it to the notes.

squiddybear · 06/08/2021 21:55

We have tried for our Morrison's (Iceland wouldn't deliver) although no bag option we've put a note in and will try and leave the reusable bags outside if not we've asked them to bring it to the kitchen so it can be placed on the side to avoid bending over!

It's such a palaver however I do support less plastic but paper bags would do!

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/08/2021 22:14

@StarfishDish

Morrisons doesn't come in bags. Only the meat does! That may vary on location though Smile
May vary. My morrisons order has always comes in bags, at 10p a bag, which is refunded when you return the bag.
ButtonMoonLoon · 06/08/2021 22:20

This really bugs me!
My options are now limited to Waitrose and Ocado which are both much more pricey than Tesco and Asda who I used to alternate between

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 06/08/2021 22:22

Morrison’s via Prime deliver in big sturdy paper bags. They’ve got the way forward tbh.

Smartiepants79 · 06/08/2021 23:00

I find it odd that the same supermarket offers a different service depending on the area you live in.
These are massive corporations, surely there should a be an agreed strategy for things like this?
