Is this too much food??

Nightgardenisodd · 04/08/2021 18:43

Toddler Dd, 3, her dinner today. Very hot where we are, lots of salads etc. We made bread today, so possibly a bit more than normal here, with the bread included.
My mum says I feed her too much food and no wonder she doesn’t eat it all. I don’t expect her to eat it all, but like to give her a varied choice in the hope she chooses parts and eats something, which she does.
Dd is a normal weight etc.
Aibu or is this an okay amount of food for her for dinner?

Trust that your child will eat what they need and leave what they don't - amount of food depends on so many factors-how active they are, how big, growth spurts etc - trust yourself and your child

GileadTurnsYouIntoABitOfACunt · 05/08/2021 19:02

Can people at least read all of the OPs posts if they can't be bothered to RTFT?! Confused

IT'S BREAD, NOT TUNA

THERE IS NO WASTE. WHAT OP'S DD DOESN'T EAT GETS SAVED FOR ANOTHER DAY

olidora63 · 05/08/2021 19:31

Looks absolutely fine and love the plate/board . Toddlers only eat as much as they need so don’t worry!

FadoFado · 05/08/2021 19:31

Looks like some lovely soda bread

Maggiesfarm · 05/08/2021 19:46
@Anonymous48 🤣 Was very rushed and Dd asked for a bit to dip her veg into, isn’t ideal I know, but I love mayo with my salad too, otherwise it’s not the most exciting.
Nothing wrong with a bit of mayo. Who ever thought there was? You could add some coleslaw next time, lovely crunchy veg (in mayo).

You've done well to get such a young child to eat salad! Salad is not particularly filling or fattening, it's what you have with it that makes a substantial meal.

I've looked at your picture of the dinner a few times and honestly cannot see anything wrong or even controversial about it. I would happily live on that. Egg and cheese are great together.

My children always ate well from an early age and were not fat. Don't worry about what your mother says, that food is fine (& one Weetabix is far from sufficient).

@Nightgardenisodd

Here
Looks great Well done with offering her choices and don’t stress
lazylinguist · 05/08/2021 19:52

Wow, there's some hot competition in the parsimony, cultural ignorance, under-eating, po-facedness and failure-to-rtft stakes on this thread Grin. Particularly loving the pearl-clutching at the mayo-drenched tuna (won't somebody think of the children!) aka lovely wholesome wholemeal bread made by the OP and her dd!

Ignore the batshit posts, OP. The meal looks lovely and you've been extraordinarily tolerant about the replies! I want to try some Portuguese cheese...

RowanAlong · 05/08/2021 19:53

I think it looks quite a lot for a three year old, but the range is great and it’s all healthy food, so it’s fine for her to pick at different bits if you can reuse what she doesn’t eat. And if she doesn’t feel compelled to eat it all.

FlyingRabbitsAtNoon · 05/08/2021 20:06

These comments are hilarious! Especially the overweight woman finding that too much for her!

An egg - 75 kcal
Slice of cheese - 120ish kcal
Slice of bread - 140kcal
Teaspoon of Mayo - 35kcal
Veggies - negligible (no more than 70 kcal looking at that plate)

And she doesn’t eat it all! It’s fine, a great way to encourage new foods and very balanced and healthy.

I’m mostly jealous that your DD is such a varied eater!

olidora63 · 05/08/2021 20:12

TBH from my experience of trying to feed a tricky toddler I would have been thrilled if my child had eaten food ‘drenched in mayonnaise’ …I was all for healthy eating but in the end it was calories that I actually cared about! So trip to Sainsbury’s with child and even if child ate a doughnut I was thrilled! Having a child that is reluctant to eat is really stressful and unless anyone has experienced this problem which was the case for two of mine ..one with regular tonsillitis and one with reflux then please just be thankful!

The overweight commenter made me laugh…she has probably crept up from size 8 to a 10 😂
Catra · 05/08/2021 20:19

I wish my 3 year old ate that much in a day, let alone in one meal.

pollymere · 05/08/2021 20:23

I probably wouldn't give tuna and a whole egg and cheese. Maybe some egg slices and cheese cubes or the tuna.

there isn't any tuna

For the love of all that is holy it's not fucking TUNA.

There is NO TUNA on that plate. Just egg, cheese, salad with dressing and home made bread.

From where did people get the idea there was tuna?

FadoFado · 05/08/2021 20:28

It's as though some people can only recognise bread if it's white sliced.

I love the 'what the heck is Portugese cheese?' comment. Cheese that isn't British, does not compute Grin

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

clickychicky · 05/08/2021 20:31

Just because it doesn't look like this: 🍞
Does not mean it is Tuna.

TrashKitten10 · 05/08/2021 20:31

Christ, I'm amazed anyone thinks this is too much for an active 3 year old, it's mainly veg and salad! It looks lovely OP, as long as your DD is satisfied after their meals and is a healthy weight, energetic and growing then you're feeding them just fine.

clickychicky · 05/08/2021 20:32

@FadoFado I love OPs response to the whats Portuguese cheese? Comment.

gentle yet effective Grin

Maggiesfarm · 05/08/2021 20:37

Portugese cheese: www.tasteoflisboa.com/blog/10-portuguese-cheeses-you-must-try/

Some is sold in the UK for those UK posters who are interested.

LoveFall · 05/08/2021 20:38

Laughing at the mayo madness. There is nothing wrong with a bit of mayo. It is made from eggs, oil, and an acid usually like vinegar or lemon juice.

Why would the mayo be an issue?

And Tuna? You must be kidding. It looks like delicious whole grain bread to me.

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/08/2021 20:44

Looks lovely, my 2.5 year old would happily eat that (except the avocado).

He also says to Weetabix most mornings, with some fruit. Sometimes he even asks for more. There's no way he'd be full on one Weetabix! I eat two too, but I'm neither growing massively nor constantly moving.
