to throw sheets & duvet cover away....

Does anyone have trouble getting period blood out of sheets. I've washed my daughter's sheets once at 60 with washing liquid stuff, and then again on a long cold wash with bleach. Hasn't made hardly any difference. Anyone any tips, Im tempted to throw them out but it seems wasteful! They're 100% cotton, but white - I know... have just bought her some dark coloured sheets 😜😏 I mean hotels must be able to get the stains out right

Soak in cold water and Milton for a couple of days and wash at 60° with vanish and your regular washing stuff. Hang out in the sunshine if the weather permits.

If they're properly done you could donate to local animal shelter, cut up for clothes, use the rest of the fabric for something else.

Dollop of thick toilet bleach. Works in a few seconds, rinse it off then wash in the machine.

hedgehogger1 · 03/08/2021 23:07

I use cold water and liquid hand soap. Seems to work

MinnieJackson · 03/08/2021 23:09

God I need this thread too! Bookmarking for the morning. I have dark purple and dark red bottom sheets though with a mattress protecter, and they haven't come out with dettol, vanish etc. I did have to get rid of my white patterned duvet cover though BlushBlush

Hydrogen peroxide

When I think about all the bedding and clothing I could have "saved" from TOM relegation, I really wish I'd known about it earlier

goddessofmischief · 03/08/2021 23:11

Soak in cold water. Coat the stains in salt. Leave for a while then wash.

PheasantsNest · 03/08/2021 23:16

I use ordinary bar soap on a nail brush before washing. It usually comes out first time.

Lilyargin · 03/08/2021 23:38

Do NOT wash at 60°

MinnieJackson · 04/08/2021 09:59

Does hydrogen peroxide not make the area turn orange?

@MinnieJackson

Does hydrogen peroxide not make the area turn orange?
No, hasn't done for me. I use it often.

Invest in Modibodi overnight period pants. Much cheaper than new linen every month!

Does hydrogen peroxide not make the area turn orange?

It's a strange one. I've used it successfully at times, at other times the area has turned orange/yellow.

Diluting blood stains with cold water usually works, then a quick normal wash afterwards..

goldopals · 06/08/2021 06:26

When I wash my reusable pads, I shower stomp in water that's probably about 40C and then wash on hot with vanish.

ShortBacknSides · 06/08/2021 07:03

I thought everyone knew that hot water sets blood stains. Always a cold soak and wash!

Justgorgeous · 06/08/2021 08:47

Soak in soda crystals and then a hot wash.

Cadent · 06/08/2021 09:03

YABU, you should be making DD hand wash the stains in cold water and soap as soon as she wakes up.

There are some things parents should not be doing for kids, unless they are ill/unable to.

My mum has never washed my period stained bedding.

Cadent · 06/08/2021 09:04

And to prevent staining, get a white absorbent washable bed pad in white, it protects the sheets and mattress and you can out it in the washing machine and bleach it white.

RedHelenB · 06/08/2021 09:06

A Vanish bar is your friend!

BigWoollyJumpers · 06/08/2021 09:08

Ace bleach is your friend. Even if it has been on a hot wash, you put ace on and it fizzes the stain away. For stubborn stains I Ace first then rub vanish stick over the top. Has never failed me yet.

IamMaz · 06/08/2021 09:08

If all else fails, I have carefully applied NEAT bleach onto stains [don't let it dry on - just for a couple of minutes] and then washed again... 9 times out of 10 it works.
Good luck.

CoralFish · 06/08/2021 09:09

If they are white cotton, you should be able to just bleach the stain with diluted bleach

MumW · 06/08/2021 09:19

Unfortunately, washing at 60 may have 'set' the stain.

I get blood out by first rinsing in cold water to get as much of the blood out as possible before spraying with a stain remover, soaking in an oxy powder overnight, then washing at 40 in a biological powder/liquid.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/08/2021 09:38

Ace bleach. I use loads for period stains. It fizzes up. Cold water and stains are gone. You can see the stain lift.

Vanish and the like don’t work on blood for me.

Darkstar4855 · 06/08/2021 09:41

Dr Beckmann’s stain magic or whatever it’s called. Comes in a pack of three. The orange “cooking fat” one is brilliant for getting blood stains out, and I say this as an A&E doctor!
