Does anyone have trouble getting period blood out of sheets. I've washed my daughter's sheets once at 60 with washing liquid stuff, and then again on a long cold wash with bleach. Hasn't made hardly any difference. Anyone any tips, Im tempted to throw them out but it seems wasteful! They're 100% cotton, but white - I know... have just bought her some dark coloured sheets 😜😏 I mean hotels must be able to get the stains out right

My dd does this frequently! Rinse stain under cold tap then scrub with laundry liquid, then 40 wash with Ariel powder - always comes out fine.
Buy some vanish or oxi powder and soak over night in kitchen sink now it’s been in a hot wash. Wash as normal in the morning and stain will be gone.

Puffinhead · 03/08/2021 20:34

You need sunlight. Dampen the stain and leave in the sun. Rinse and repeat till it disappears. There was a whole thread last week about this ‘miracle’ stain remover. It does work!!

I’ve got white Egyptian cotton sheets , ( I run a holiday cottage )
All bedding gets washed with Persil bio powder on a 60° hygiene wash
The important part is the the washing machine fills with cold water and then heats up
I think powder works better than liquid , no idea why

Hot wash was a mistake, eek.

How do people not know about cold water & soap for blood, as soon as possible after exposure.

Mandalay246 · 03/08/2021 20:40

I agree with everyone else - they should have been soaked in cold water first. However, try soaking in Vanish or something similar, and hang outside in the sun.

prochem.co.uk/product/stain-pro-1l-spray/

This stuff is amazing! My DC both suffer with nosebleeds and I've been able to shift really old, stubborn stains in pillowcases etc with this... it's definitely not too late to salvage your DD's bedding 🙂

cherrypopsicle · 03/08/2021 20:41

Ace bleach - absolutely swear by it. Pour straight on the stain, leave for a couple of minutes then wash as normal. Generally gets it straight put but if a slight stain is left then the sun should get the rest out on the line

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/08/2021 20:43

Was it chlorine bleach or oxygen bleach you soaked them in?

GinJeanie · 03/08/2021 20:44

Ps you can get the Prochem spray on Amazon. Good luck!

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 03/08/2021 20:46

Where is everyone getting their Ace bleach? I used to swear by it but can't find it anywhere.

Confusedandshaken · 03/08/2021 20:48

Blood is easy to get out if you treat it right. It needs a cold soak. I still have the sheets I gave birth on 30 years ago. The trouble is hot water sets stains so you might be too late.

Don't despair though. Soak it in cold water with biological powder sprinkled on it overnight . Wash at 30. If that doesn't shift it try again. If that fails brush on some Miltons sterilising fluid, leave it for a few hours, repeat of necessary and wash on 30. Drying in the sun will also fade it.

BabycakesMatlala · 03/08/2021 20:50

Always cold water first. BUT just put some neat bleach on the mark, leave it for a couple of mins, and that should do the trick.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 03/08/2021 20:52

If nothing works then just dye them. So wasteful to throw them out.

SunSeaSurfGin · 03/08/2021 20:52

@balancingfigure

Yes sometimes the old theories are best and my mum always said cold water. Soak in sink/bath/bowel in cold water and then hot wash. My daughter has white sheets too
It's in Mrs Beetons Book of household management from 1880 something if not earlier! And still works today
ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 20:53

If you don't get it out using the excellent methods already given, die them? Better than wasting good bedding.

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 20:53

sorry, meant dye them Grin it's been a long day....

MamaMia252 · 03/08/2021 20:55

Try soaking in cold water, thin bleach instead of thick bleach, use a whole bottle and add a big splash of white vinegar and a few teaspoon s of bicarbonate soda. Leave it overnight. I've don't this before, used the bath so I couldn't spread it out evenly to soak then wash on 40c with softener to get the bleach and vinegar smell out 😁

RainingZen · 03/08/2021 20:57

Yes cold water and salt and then dry on bright sunshine outside

LowlandLucky · 03/08/2021 20:57

Ace bleach gets every stain out of every colour

Thelnebriati · 03/08/2021 20:57

I soak in cold water, changing the water at least once.
Then soak for up to 24 hours in Biotex - its not that easy to get but look on amazon or in an International supermarket. Its much more effective than Biotex.

If its set, you need to treat as for a rust stain. Pour some white vinegar over the stain, rub in some salt, then hang in the direct sun for a few hours. Then wash oat 60 degrees with biological powder and a scoop of O2 laundry bleach/Napisan.

UntilYouComeBacktoMe · 03/08/2021 20:59

How am I 51, actually menopausal, and never knew about the cold water!!!!?????

ItsMsAtomicBobToYou · 03/08/2021 20:59

Vanish Oxy action, make a paste and leave it on the stain for a couple of hours. Then wash it as normal with biological washing powder. It's worked for me even after a hot wash.

21Bee · 03/08/2021 21:00

Prewash the sheets on a half dose of bio detergent and a scoop of vanish/napisan at 60. Next do a full load with the sheets with a full dose of bio at 60 (weigh it out, mine is normally four scoops). We use this method with nappies etc… and gets stains out everytime.

CovidDoesNotExistDuh · 03/08/2021 21:01

Heat alters the proteins in the blood. Never hit wash. Always cool. Blood suns out really well too.
