OP posts:
Redglitter · 02/08/2021 16:22

😂 only on MN would people get upset about this.

The bins will be getting put out & emptied whether the OP fills them up or not. So long as they're empty for the neighbours coming back why would they care.

mam0918 · 02/08/2021 16:23

@pinkcircustop

You can’t use their bins just because they’re away Confused

They asked you to put them out, not use them yourself Hmm

If they are away and OP is not using the bins the WHY would they need to be put out?

If your not using your bin you dont put it out, its not a law to have it out every collection day lol you only put it out when its in use/full which it wouldnt be if your away for weeks and no one is using it.
@Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse ohhh maybe, I'm very nice and obviously I get a bit excited about bin day.
Best thing about next door being for let was using their bins. They'd left them half full so it actually helped the new tenants as they moved in to empty bins. I'd fill them Sunday night before bin collection to avoid someone moving in and finding I'd filled it

Neverrains · 02/08/2021 16:23

Our bin collectors don’t give a shit if the lid is open. They also take piles of cardboard left next to the bins if someone’s cardboard bag is full.

CatAlice · 02/08/2021 16:24

If you put their bins out it's your responsibility to make sure they are full. It's the law.Grin
My neighbours are away and I will be filling the bins up before I put them out tomorrow.

userxx · 02/08/2021 16:24

My neighbours moved out for a few months, so i used their bin to fill my wine bottles. Dont see the issue at all.

lastcall · 02/08/2021 16:28

Ignore the haters, OP.

Most everyone would do the same. I have. And I've also plucked a bag out of my neighbour's bin and put it in ours because there's wouldn't shut properly with it. I had room; they didn't. No biggie.

People are weird about bins here. They're bins, full or rubbish and recycling. Someone else's recycling or rubbish won't make them unusable.

Kitkat151 · 02/08/2021 16:28

@MarcelineMissouri

Eh? I can’t believe people are being funny about this!! As long as the bins are empty in their return it’s all good.

Enjoy your clearout!

Freshprincess · 02/08/2021 16:32

I do it even when they’re not on holiday.
I’m up at 6am, bins get emptied around 7.30. If I’ve got any extra stuff, then I go looking for an overflow bin.

Enjoy your temporary extra bin capacity, OP.

eightyfourandahalf · 02/08/2021 16:33

people are still completely missing the point.

When you are the reason why bins won't be collected, then obviously it's wrong.

When you "think" a bin is empty and the owner doesn't have any space left for their own bag, it's being a CF.

Just because someone is lucky that their rubbish are collected weekly, or that you can have bins overflowing and stuff around, doesn't mean we all have the same set up.

SixesAndEights · 02/08/2021 16:34

I used to live in a place where the bin had to be closed for them to pick up.

I've lived in my current place for years now and am still amazed that the refuse collectors not only take bins with their lids fully open because there's so much stuff in them, but will also take random black bin bags as well!!!

However, they have changed their stance regarding cardboard since covid. They used to take any cardboard left, now it has to be in the correct receptacle.

Trampolean · 02/08/2021 16:35

I can't believe people would be arsed at a neighbour using their bins whilst they're away, especially if they have asked them to put them out.

so the owner doesn't have any space for their own bag.. charming.

Some people really are CF.

pinkflask · 02/08/2021 16:36

I don’t know why people are assuming OP is going to somehow monumentally fuck up the difficult process of putting stuff in a bin - I am assuming she has her own bins which she manages to not get fined for using! Millions of very very stupid people manage the bin process without incident day after day so I’ll charitably think OP is at least as bin-savvy as them.

sofiegiraffe · 02/08/2021 16:37

I’m thinking this must be one of those odd MN things that only the people in my computer get upset about.

😂

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 02/08/2021 16:38

I can beat that OP, my neighbours moved out and their house was empty for 6 whole months whilst the council made adaptations for the new tenants. I got rid of so much rubbish and recycling, it coincided with me redecorating and having lots of flat pack furniture delivered so it was good to have somewhere to get rid of all that extra cardboard.

Tal45 · 02/08/2021 16:39

You're doing them a favour by putting out their bin so I have no idea why they'd have a problem with you putting a few bits in. I certainly wouldn't. I couldn't get excited about it personally though.

AddressLabel · 02/08/2021 16:40

@janj2301

in our street when the bins go out if there is any room in one others fill it up, no problem at all. I live alone so my bin is usually only half full, neighbours with children generate more rubbish so us mine, if I'm holiday unfortunaetly they can't get to my bin in the back garden behind a locked gate
Same here. MN is bizarre at times 🤣
icedcoffees · 02/08/2021 16:40

The things people get worked up about on MN Grin

I couldn't give a single fuck if someone used my bin while I was away, lol.

Doggitydog · 02/08/2021 16:41

Yanbu OP, clear away!!
Why anyone would be annoyed you are using their bin while they are away I don’t know. Nowt as queer as folk.

That would piss me off.

I sometimes put rubbish in my neighbour's bin because she's okay with me doing that. She rarely has anything more than one or two bags, whereas every now and again I haven't enough space.

Everyone here has the big bins, not the slimline ones, so there's always masses of space. In fact, I'm always amazed that households have enough rubbish to fill them to overflowing.

StrangeToSee · 02/08/2021 16:42

Why would you put your rubbish in their bins? What if something leaks and makes a mess?

They’ve probably had a clear out and filled them up ready for bin day, to stop people taking advantage!

Or the other neighbours might see you using the ‘spare’ bins and mention it to them on their return.

Why not go to the tip if you have lots of rubbish and recycling?

itcouldhave · 02/08/2021 16:43

Both our neighbours either side are away and asked us to put their bins out. Mumsnet, we used their bins.

I don't see why it matters when they're away and won't be generating any rubbish themselves. The bins will be empty when they get back.

Hoppinggreen · 02/08/2021 16:46

If I’m away my neighbour feeds my cats waters my plants and generally keeps an eye on the place.
I don’t care what she does with my bins as long as she puts them out

pinkflask · 02/08/2021 16:46

Anyone who would think like this is a fucking psychopath.

Ditto.

They’re BINS. For putting rubbish in. Fuck me.
