I'd be happy for our neighbours to fill our bins if they were taking them out for us. As long as the stuff was gone by the time we got back, what does it matter?

Fairyliz · 02/08/2021 16:00

It’s good to be able to see joy in small things.
I think you will live a long and happy life.

Starjammer · 02/08/2021 16:01

Also I remember we missed a recycling bin day once and legitimately took us like 6 weeks to catch back up and get rid of all the cardboard. Contemplated just selling the house and starting again. I'd have jumped at the chance to fill someone else's bin.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 02/08/2021 16:01

Our bins won’t get collected if the lid is up, it’s got to be shut!

nottobrag · 02/08/2021 16:03

@TheAwfuITruth

As long as they'll be empty for them coming back, I can't see the problem.

YANBU OP, my favourite day of the week is bin day Grin. If I've managed to get every scrap of rubbish and recycling out the house for the wagon coming I feel I'm winning at life 👍🏼

🙌 oh yes

And who has their neighbours phone numbers, come on? I thought the idea was to be friendly but not over friendly with your neighbours.

tootiredtobother · 02/08/2021 16:03

go for it.. but over your tracks !!!

tootiredtobother · 02/08/2021 16:03

Cover not over obvs

Neverrains · 02/08/2021 16:03

I can’t believe anyone would actually give a shit that someone else uses their bin while they’re away. Especially when that someone else is doing them a favour by putting their bins out in the first place!
OP if you were my neighbour you could fill your boots. I have actual things to worry about, not someone using my bloody bin when I don’t need it Grin

Slimmingstar · 02/08/2021 16:10

Of course you can use them if not overflowing and contrary to local council regulations. Ffs - the people on this site!!

SamVimes6 · 02/08/2021 16:10

Use the bins op.
I’m staggered at the others telling you that’s you’re wrong to fill their bins!

Lightningrain · 02/08/2021 16:11

I can’t believe how outraged some people are about this. I wouldn’t care less if someone was doing me a favour by putting my bin out.

One of our neighbours doesn’t have much of a garden and they often ask if we want to fill their bin with our extra garden waste.

eightyfourandahalf · 02/08/2021 16:11

Adding a firmly shut, non leaking bag to an empty bin so the lid still close?

Fine I suppose when the neighbours asked you to take them out.

Anything else is CF. Most people have other things to do than dealing with overflowing bins that didn't get collected, or a stinky bin because some CF put something that leaked in there. Grim.

Myothercarisalsoshit · 02/08/2021 16:12

Why would anyone mind as long as they're clean and empty for their return? There are some very funny people on MN, OP. You go for it!

Chickychoccyegg · 02/08/2021 16:12

Haha, cannot believe anyone would care if their neighbour used their bin when on holiday, especially if its going out to be emptied, hope you manage you manage to get rid of so.e of your rubbish 😀

eightyfourandahalf · 02/08/2021 16:13

And who has their neighbours phone numbers, come on?

lots of people Confused
You don't even need to be that friendly to be contactable.

eightyfourandahalf · 02/08/2021 16:13

If you have been asked to take them out, the bins won't be empty in the first place anyway....

FogHornInTheAttic · 02/08/2021 16:14

I'd do it but I'd know better than to start a thread on Mn about it as you'll get your arse handled to you Grin

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/08/2021 16:15

@MarcelineMissouri

Eh? I can’t believe people are being funny about this!! As long as the bins are empty in their return it’s all good.

Enjoy your clearout!

This. Enjoy yourself OP!
Scarby9 · 02/08/2021 16:17

At the weekend, I finished 10 days self-isolation, on nine of which, I gardened.
I filled my green waste bin and 25 compost type sacks and then was stuck until my lovely neighbours came back from holiday and offered me their grern waste bin.

At Christmas, I go away to family, and they have family here. They have full use of both my recycling and waste bins then, and we often top one another's bins up as necessary on collection day the rest of the year - but always ask first.

Responsible bin sharing makes for good neighbours!

Yorkshireswithallroasts · 02/08/2021 16:17

I can’t get my head around this bin lid business - it’s still bin bags around here!

Pinotwoman82 · 02/08/2021 16:18

Ooh I love it when the neighbours go away and I can use their bins Grin

janj2301 · 02/08/2021 16:19

in our street when the bins go out if there is any room in one others fill it up, no problem at all. I live alone so my bin is usually only half full, neighbours with children generate more rubbish so us mine, if I'm holiday unfortunaetly they can't get to my bin in the back garden behind a locked gate

GrrRightBackAtYou · 02/08/2021 16:19

@nottobrag

They asked me to put them out for them .. do places really not get their bins emptied with the lid up ?
Yep, if they are open more than a crack our FB local page is full of people ranting that their bin hasn’t been emptied. I think they get some sort of notification about recycling more or something. I wouldn’t mind a neighbour putting stuff in mine as long as collection wasn’t refused because they’d overfilled it.
Katiebee008 · 02/08/2021 16:20

Only on mumsnet! YANBU OP, used to do this all the time when I wasn't living in flats. I also used to take my elderly neighbours bin down for her every week, I'd always chuck in an extra bag into hers if she had room.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/08/2021 16:22

@LuxOlente

I'd put padlocks on mine to stop CFs like you. Chances are you'll leave the lid up, fill it with the wrong thing and land me and my family with the full bin and the council fine!
Why on earth would op screw over her neighbours bin on purpose??
