I wonder if all the controversy around Laurel's participation led to her losing her nerve?

@FluffyBattleKitten

Everything you have said is poorly thought out and evidenced. Where to begin. Lurkers notice when you say ridiculous things.
Ok. Well, thanks for your input.
Waspsarearseholes · 02/08/2021 21:39

No, pumper, no. You are either deliberately misunderstanding many people's comments or are just genuinely not particularly bright and a bit out of your depth.

MrsMaizel · 02/08/2021 21:39

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz

Aaah so provided the woman alternative is a bit shittier than a slightly better man that's ok?

RIP women's sport. My heart breaks for our daughters. I'm so fucking angry about this.

Sadly it is many of the young daughters who are blind to their future = all they see if the woke that is pushed down their throats .
Helleofabore · 02/08/2021 21:39

you’re suggesting menstruation is a reason to separate by sex

No. I am pointing out that amongst all the other advantages that you have not suggested a way to mitigate, most females will always have a disadvantage to males in dealing with menstruation when males do not. Just another factor to consider.

I quoted you word for word. I’d suggest it’s not me who’s the thick one.

FrippEnos · 02/08/2021 21:44

@NiceGerbil

I doubt LH would have thrown it tbh.

Seems highly unlikely.

Why?

She now has what she wanted all along.

A place in the history books.

Thelnebriati · 02/08/2021 21:44

Pumperthepumper How would you allow for this sex difference?

''Oxygen uptake in respiratory muscles differs between men and women during exercise''
Muscles necessary for breathing need a greater amount of oxygen in women than in men, according to a study published today in The Journal of Physiology.

They won the gold because there was only one other athlete in their category and they've never fired a bow before but always thought it looked like fun and pumperthepumper would like to see a range of talents' at the Olympics so here we are. Well done.

Categorise by oxygen intake then.

Is it really this difficult to float a conversation on mumsnet? Do I really deserve to be called ‘not particularly bright’ or accused of being a sexual predator because of my easily-searchable username? Does nobody else find this avenue even vaguely worth an adult conversation?

NiceGerbil · 02/08/2021 21:47

Pumper I'd really appreciate a little more on your thoughts than that.

It wouldn't just be the Olympics.
It would need to be through all the levels, otherwise it would be really difficult for talented young people to understand what they need to do, what they're up against, compete with people that will be in the same category as they progress through the ranks.

In order to achieve the classification types you suggest. There would need to be a sea change in how society views and understands male v female physicality.

From the current general view, that in most situations a male of similar age etc will be able to overpower a female.

To. If similar height age etc then neither has a 'natural' advantage. Across the population, on average.

'Ok. I don’t think men attack women because they see themselves in the same category as them in the Olympics. I don’t see why that would change. Men would still attack women.'

I was hoping for a more thought out response tbh. This is s really important point.

'Ok. I don’t think men attack women because they see themselves in the same category as them in the Olympics.'

I doubt understand why you wrote that. What point were you trying to make about my concerns?

'I don’t see why that would change. Men would still attack women.'

Yeeeesss. And society, in order to accept the proposals you suggest. Would have consumed and approved the idea that male people and female people if a similar size, are equally matched in strength.

Why didn't she fight is still a question often asked. The change in attitude you suggest will massively extend that thinking.

You see what I'm saying?

Tlems · 02/08/2021 21:48

I doubt they threw it too, too big of an ego, if youre cheating to get in, I can't see someone throwing it.

NettleTea · 02/08/2021 21:48

if a middle aged, unfit, overweight man can make it to the olympics in a female category, surely that shows up enough what a difference the sexed body makes. I sure dont see any overweight middle aged out of condition women on that same stage.

same with the cycling. Compare that very vociferous name changer with a paunch, and the fit and svelt women he rides against, and beats.

titchy · 02/08/2021 21:48

Does nobody else find this avenue even vaguely worth an adult conversation?

Clearly no. As it solves nothing. And obfuscates everything.

Leafstamp · 02/08/2021 21:51

@HermioneWeasley

Not surprised in the slightest. I knew Laurel couldn’t be allowed to win a medal, Laurel had to make it look difficult so that the TRAs can say there’s no advantage in being male.

Most Olympic athletes when they crash out are devastated. They don’t laugh and smirk.

Absolutely vile.

I saw the footage of this. It did not look like someone whose 4 years hard work had just been put to bed.

@NiceGerbil I’m not really sure why you think I owe you any kind of civil response after the way you’ve quoted and mocked my points.

I’ve already answered your point. I don’t see why changing the categories in the Olympics would change how men see women in real life. Unless you’re suggesting men seriously only attack women because they think they can swim faster than them, or cycle faster than them, I don’t see your point. Men will still attack women. Men will not think ‘oh, I won’t attack her because according to the new Olympic rules, she’s got the same distance between her eyes as I do so she’ll beat me’.

NotTerfNorCis · 02/08/2021 21:52

I wonder if all the controversy around Laurel's participation led to her losing her nerve?

I didn't watch it, being at work, but I heard Hubbard looked relaxed and pleased afterwards, not like someone who had just thrown away years of training and preparation.

Ah because of the personality that is indicated by their past actions.

I see on this thread that there were things they did in the competition today to indicate they may well have.

Mine was a guess- not based on seeing it.

Which incidentally-

I tried to on BBC red button.
1 hour.
Loads of women competing, both lifts shown IE not highlights.

LH not anywhere to be seen.

The BBC has seemingly cut them.

WTF? I mean. Seriously?!

Nobody is making these changes. This is a theory that comes up every year, it’s a discussion that’s been had many, many times before. But with every passing year (as we get closer to the absolute limits of human achievement) it gets more likely. Is this new to you?
FluffyBattleKitten · 02/08/2021 21:56

Pumper, people are implying that you aren't bright because the things you are saying are not well thought out. At all.

You sound like someone who has never seen a grown man or woman. Let alone played a sport.

Most five year olds understand men and women are different. It's not complicated.

InTheMiddle23 · 02/08/2021 21:57

Great to see Emily Campbell take silver!

Helleofabore · 02/08/2021 21:58

Categorise by oxygen intake then.

So we are categorizing by height, weight, fat to muscle ratio and oxygen intake so far…. In just supposedly three categories by the way….

I know… let’s group where the majority of the athletes align like this…. We will call them female category and have an open category where everyone else who feels they can have a go.
