To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against women - Part 2

I am overwhelmed by how much support there has been on this post and that the majority of people agree with the unfairness of this decision, it is good to see the majority being able to have a voice without being silenced.

It breaks my heart that a less fortunate girl who has worked so hard was passed over for a middle aged transgender woman who was 203 in the world when competing against men. Sad

I can’t decide if I want this person to win, to give the argument a better standing on never letting this happen again.
I guess we will find out today…

Hi OP

Laurel Hubbard is already out, having failed to register a lift in the 'snatch'.

GB's Emily is currently in 4th.

What does that mean? Hubbard gave up on purpose?
sleepyhead · 02/08/2021 13:06

She probably didn't give up on purpose, just wasn't very good.

Which makes it even more galling that someone else missed out for the sake of a 43 yr old's gender affirmation feels.

ChainJane · 02/08/2021 13:07

No, her snatch wasn't good enough and she dropped it.

Lauren Hubbard has admitted that 'she' was told by experts her career was over when 'she' broke her arm three years ago.

'She' qualified against women, lifting lesser weights than a man would and took a place on an Olympics team, knowing full well 'she' was unfit.

I don't know which is worse - knowing 'she' wouldn't be 'match fit' and failing to give up 'her' place on the team or deliberately going for the sympathy vote as a 'the first transgender' weightlifter.

This was never about representing New Zealand and all about 'Her! Her! Her!'

This is unfortunate technical terminology for a trans woman
BlueLobelia · 02/08/2021 13:10

watched it. Convinced they tanked it. Massive smile, no hint of disappointment at all.

@Ozgirl75

😂😂😂

FreeBritnee · 02/08/2021 13:12

Well if they purposely lost what was the fucking point? 🙄🙄🙄

Floisme · 02/08/2021 13:12

I wonder how Roviel Detanamo, the young woman who I believe lost her place as a result of Hubbard's selection, would have got on? Sadly we may never find out.

I reckon treehouse tanked it on purpose

Gingernaut · 02/08/2021 13:15

If they lost on purpose, they can now stand as an example of why transwomen don't have a natural advantage and what are all the transphobes complaining about.

The fact it was an averagely talented, over privileged, obese, over the hill, 40 odd year old man competing without proper preparation will be forgotten about and 'by the by' in no time at all.

Treehouse?! Sorry that was meant to be they

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/08/2021 13:17

I wouldn't like to say that I think it was deliberate, as pp said Hubbard just isn't very good and is unfit. However the advantage for TRAs of Hubbard competing and losing is as follows:

To raise the issue in the media etc but make the argument that there isn't a huge advantage when mediocre males with low testosterone compete against women, so that better ones can compete in future.

Rheia1983 · 02/08/2021 13:17

If the IOC does not go over their rubbish policies to rectify situations like this, then would be the point of the Olympics for the female population?

Just been talking about this with DH and we agree. A tactical failure, perhaps…
HowCanYouHateMarmite · 02/08/2021 13:20

Already on Twitter there are comments saying that this proves that transwomen don't have any advantage

Middle-aged, mediocre, male-bodied athlete, twice the age of "her" competitors loses to the best female athletes in the world.

Meanwhile, this white male-bodied person from a rich country like New Zealand pushes out another one of the world's best female athletes from a country with just a fraction of NZ's resources available for women's sport.

So progressive. So much to celebrate.

And all cheered on by the BBC.
