I expected it to be £500 to £600 per week as I was looking at a week in August for next year. But £1100 for a week for a glamping freaking bell tent with no toilet/ shower etc??? It doesn't even look that nice 🥺

I'd pay £1,000 NOT to stay in a tent of any form. Plus all those b*stard slugs that crawl in and lie on you.....

Agree with pp. Don’t book it.

I just had a five night break with 10 year old twins in a lovely, brand new 6 birth caravan, evening entertainment, heated pool, 200metres from a blue flag beach. £500.

You’re being taken for a mug if you pay a grand to camp.

This is why you buy your own equipment and just book a pitch. Even with really decent gear, that you may only use once, it’ll come in cheaper than that!

@BikeRunSki that's weird because I put the dates in for August next year and it came up ?

We found a place to rent a bell tent next month for £190 for 3 nights and booked it a few weeks ago. I think it might depend on where you're looking though.

@wigornian

Don’t book then. If nobody books, they will lower their prices.

That's right.

Daylight robbery.

I have seen glamping sites on TV and they are always expensive.

You could rent a nice cottage for that.

Complete racket.
It’s always been the case that you should the opposite of everyone else to get good value though. We do the city breaks in August ( I only get school holidays).
We did a road tour to Florence and Rome because August is holiday season. Quiet and fab.
Now everyone is looking for family friendly “ instagram” proper holidays do the other. The London museums. The last minute few days away. The cheap chain hotels

God - my last holiday in Venice cost less than that! Wise decision OP. They say a fool and their money ......

Surely some fun things you and the DC can do at home.

... you can do wild camping in Scotland. Might be a better option.

We’re currently camping on the south coast. Only booked a week ago after cancelling our foreign holiday. 10 nights cost £220. We’d normally camp in May half term and spend almost double that on 7 nights at a holiday park. We’re currently at quite a quirky, basic site and have to say that I think I’m converted. It’s in a village that’s not touristy so pubs etc are quiet - no issues finding somewhere to eat. Only 20 minutes or so to lots of attractions. I wouldn’t swap my summer holiday abroad for it but I think we’ll be back.

£1500 for the off-peak times we'd book. They are *shitting.... we've paid £300 a week for accomodation at most for prime locations. When it's cheaper to holiday in France or Spain (or anywhere in Europe) for two weeks and fork out for a boat/eurotunnel than to take a week in a tent in the UK... something not right there..

Glamping is fine if it is really luxurious and has essential private amenities as a bare minimum let alone amazing views and setting with spa and gastronomy on speed dial.

Not so much to just rip off Britain greedy yoyo dynamic pricing because of covid staycations but for no control over our ever unpredictable unreliable weather from heat waves to wash out thunderstorms flooding.

The accomodation we've booked at £300 a week was an individual house. Not a tent. No way we'd pay that for a tent. For that money, we want a house, with facililities to suit us. dishwasher, private garden. beach and shops (bakery, grocery) within a few minutes walking distance. We've had that for the last 25 years. We'll wait until we can again. No way we're forking out the amounts cited here for a tent.

@GrandDuchessRomanov

You couldn't pay me to camp for a grand, never mind the other way round.

That's insane. No way in hell I'd pay that.

We bought a 10m bell tent for £550 and a weeks camping £140. You could sell it after if you didn't like it?

They are a doddle to get up and down just make sure you don't put it to bed damp or air it when you get home.

Are they really a doddle to put up? I am really tempted by a bell tent but there would just be me as the only adult to put it up.
