I expected it to be £500 to £600 per week as I was looking at a week in August for next year. But £1100 for a week for a glamping freaking bell tent with no toilet/ shower etc??? It doesn't even look that nice 🥺

@Maireas

Loads of people still booking, though. I've never been to Centreparcs, but am absolutely shocked at the prices. Family holidays in the UK are very, very expensive.
absolutely! I couldn't believe the price of Centre Parcs. I've always loved camping but didn't think of it as a serious contender for our family holidays until I once looked up the price of booking for the then five of us at a Butlins type place, during half term week. The cost of that was close to a grand. I took us camping in one of my old tents, and then invested in a decent tent and posher camping gear once it was obvious everyone enjoyed it.

No way would I pay £1100 for a glamping week!! You can get some decent gear for that amount and then go camping as often as you'd like with it. :D

rookiemere · 31/07/2021 20:18

@SummerHouse we're just back from Whitby as well and paid £950 for a beautifully decorated 2 bedroom flat with on street parking for a week. Mind you did book it in February.

Maireas · 31/07/2021 20:18

If you ever watch Four in a Bed (no judgement, please Wink) the glamping places are always incredibly expensive. They don't win.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 31/07/2021 20:22

You couldn't pay me to camp for a grand, never mind the other way round.

chaosrabbitland · 31/07/2021 20:25

prices have been jacked up something shocking because of covid , we go camping normally , not last year of course , but when i looked up the haven campsite where we normally go it was close to a grand for 7 nights , absolutely stupid money for pitching your tent . the last time we went there it only cost 500 pounds for the whole bloody holiday , pitch , food ,petrol and days out to great yarmouth and the like

i wont pay it , im waiting until next year , id rather go without than get robbed blind , if other people are that desperate or flush for money to get ripped off thats up to them ,but i refuse to do it

winewolfhowls · 31/07/2021 20:26

I bloody love four in a bed, its my guilty pleasure! The Glamping ones always look gorgeous but then you see the price! We once stayed in wooden pod things once before the whole Glamping thing was fashionable, it was lovely but only about 60 quid a night for 4 of us, with heating and electricity and use of a communal kitchen.

Mustreadabook · 31/07/2021 20:27

I would so much rather go glamping than stay in a travel lodge. Or a cottage if weather is nice. The prices are often comparable to a cottage. If you want cheap camping buy a tent. It’s about £25 a night in Cornwall to pitch your own tent.

ripples101 · 31/07/2021 20:27

Anywhere in the UK is accessible from anywhere else in the UK.

People paying these kind of prices are silly. And the people who do pay these kind of prices are justifying these kind of prices.

I can’t even write out the word glamping without the autocorrect on my phone changing it to glamming or clamping.

DingDongThongs · 31/07/2021 20:33

for 1100 you can stay in my Victorian villa in the Lakes... I'll read a bedtime story too...

imamule · 31/07/2021 20:36

Who is paying that?!

I am, dont judge 😬. Not going for a wk though but 3 nights.

imamule · 31/07/2021 20:37

@ivykaty44 that looks lovely

Lesina · 31/07/2021 20:41

Staying Staithes, Yorkshire coast in a beautiful 3 storey house, 3 bathrooms, WIFI, fully heated and with a sea view for £997…. £1k for a tent is mental…

mrspainful · 31/07/2021 20:43

Just to confirm I will NOT be paying that.

I started off thinking about camping as we loved it when I was with my EXH. However, I'm a bit nervous about camping on my own as a single parent with 2 DC, particularly putting the tent up. Hence why I thought I'd have a look at glamping prices.

He also got custody of all the camping gear too so I'll have to fork out for it all again.

I have got a wk booked by the seaside which is much better value but the bloody dc love glamping 😖

BackforGood · 31/07/2021 20:46

They're aimed at people with more money than sense. Instagrammers the lot of them

This ^

You can get many a nice cottage for that, with all mod cons. Or AirBnB or travel lodge / Premier Inns etc.

or

Pitches at a camp site for about £15 or less per night if you really want to camp.

Whilst there are idiots that pay it though - can't blame them for trying. I mean, some people pay CentreParcs prices .......

mrspainful · 31/07/2021 20:46

We live on the Yorkshire Coast ( and love it) but we're on the beach most days in the summer hols. Fancied something inland, was looking at The Dales.

OMG that is utterly ridiculous price!Shock

I'm certainly no camper though

Would consider glamping but would still need loo/shower and kitchen bits...I'm probably more thinking of a mobile home!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 31/07/2021 20:47

novelty factor isnt it

Cryalot2 · 31/07/2021 20:48

Hire a caravan , anything has to be cheaper than that.
I mean the type pulled behind a car and has added on tent rooms
No toilet for that . Not a hope , our dodgy plumbing couldn't cope Blush

user1471453601 · 31/07/2021 20:49

Crikey, that is a lot. Last September I asked to change accommodation (nothing wrong with the original appartment, just up.A hill I couldn't manage).

I got a change for 250 a week, front line. Beautiful place. I did go with a company I've been using for over twenty years, and I am on first name terms with the owners and most of the staff, but over 1k for a tent? No way

illuyankas · 31/07/2021 20:50

If your exdh has all the camping gear, then it makes more sense for kids to go camping with your ex? Kids aren't missing out in that case, and you can do something different.

Didiplanthis · 31/07/2021 20:53

How is no toilet/shower 'glamping' ??? Is it not just normal camping in a big pointy tent ?

mrspainful · 31/07/2021 20:54

No, he wouldn't be interested in taking the children away camping. But thats a whole other thread....

We've just returned from a week of camping and it was £90 for our pitch. A friend paid £90+£500 for another company to come over and put up a huge bell tent for her. She stayed in luxury.

BarbaraofSeville · 31/07/2021 21:03

Probably booked up but glamping pods in dalby forest for £50 per night, so far more reasonable.
