To think nothing does actually tame frizzy hair?

cultkid · 31/07/2021 08:29

I have fluffy type hair and it only ever looks truly smooth if I go to a hair salon
Ive recently had a blunt cut and I would like my hair to look more tidy.
What can I use? I've tried quite a lot of products
Ive also got extensions in to add to the drama

Thank you

Iv just just had a keratin treatment on my thick curly frizzy hair, omg game changer, wish I'd done it a long time ago

DinosaurDiana · 31/07/2021 08:53

L’Oréal hair oil on wet hair.

dappledsunshine · 31/07/2021 08:53

I'd like to know this too, I've tried so many different products.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 31/07/2021 08:59

Loads of conditioner
Leave in conditioner
Really good curl products - Umberto Giannini are good for curls and the John Frieda curl creme
Then hair oil to seal in the moisture.

Loads of tips on Instagram.

Also never brush when it's dry.

I use John Frieda dream curls daily styling spray to tame it in the morning along with argan or keratin oil

Moroccan oil, expensive but amazing stuff!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/07/2021 09:16

I’ve stopped dying mine which helps a lot. I only wash mine twice a week which helps, I never use conditioner but use something like a split end cream or smoother before drying. Ideally air dry but if not I rough dry it the then run staighteners though. Don’t brush if more than once a day, use a denman nylon brush.

TrueRefuge · 31/07/2021 09:16

What type of hair do you have?

I have thick, coarse wavy hair, and it has been revolutionised, believe it or not, by stopping the use of conditioner and replacing that with a post-wash serum and wave enhancer, and drying with a muslin (pure cotton) rather than a towel (which can be too rough and heavy and cause breakage). I do a conditioner once a week now, often as a treatment and leave in for 20-30 minutes.

Also, hair is only ever air dried which does reduce "smoothness" but keeps my hair healthier.

Please tell me more about this! I've been reading about nano-keratin treatments - is that the one you had ,or another one? Did you get to keep some of the curl, but just smoother and less frizzy? Or is it all straight now?

Where did you go to have it done? Lots of salons seems to advertise keratin treatments but don't specify exactly what kind, and I know some have bad chemicals or are more/less effective.

I have tried so many products! I like the curls to an extent, but not the frizz

Countthosestitches · 31/07/2021 09:19

Is it curly/wavy hair that you’re trying to straighten all the time? Why not embrace the texture and try the curly girl method?

HornungTheHelpful · 31/07/2021 09:19

Agreed. I have found using olaplex at home products the lowest effort, biggest improvement I’ve ever had. The shampoo, conditioner and No3 treatment

icedcoffees · 31/07/2021 09:38

I have super fine, frizzy hair and everything that controls the fizz makes it feel (and look) like I've dipped my head in a bucket of grease Hmm

StickersStickers · 31/07/2021 09:40

If you think you have frizzy hair, there’s a good chance you actually have wavy/curly hair. So you need to figure out the best way to deal with that.

Try looking up curly girl method. It all looks a bit overwhelming but I just use it for inspiration and do my own thing at the moment.

MartyHart · 31/07/2021 09:44

I started loosely following the curly girl method and it's really good.
I got my hair cut to work with the waves in my hair. I use conditioner every time I wash it, I don't brush it at all and I use Paul Mitchell Round trip which doesn't dry crunchy like mousse does.
Had many compliments and I'm not straightening the life out of it anymore.
This way is much quicker to get ready in the morning too.

SCMocha · 31/07/2021 09:44

I've found curly girl was terrible for my hair, made it worse. Mine is thick and wavy/curly, which means it mostly just frizzes, especially the second day - the curls never last and it gets bigger and bigger.

So you really have to experiment. I haven't found my solution yet. My hairdresser makes it look like with a keratin-conditioner and then blow drying and curling or straightening with irons, but no way would I do that every day! And I don't necessarily want it straight all the time either - I would like the curls, if it didn't just turn into a huge frizzy mess!

I do quite like Giannini No More Frizz, though it isn't really a whole solution. It does seem to help, though.

PumpkinKlNG · 31/07/2021 09:44

No it doesn’t, I’ve tried everything, even after straightening mind is just frizzy minutes later, humidity makes it look even worst! I’ve given up hope it’s like a ball of fluff

ChippyDucks150 · 31/07/2021 09:47

Color wow dream coat is great. It does contain silicons though, if you're against using them in your hair.

Yep - unfortunately I've tried that and it just makes my hair so lank and greasy.

The problem is there are so many different types of curly and frizzy hair that there's never going to be a "one size fits all" solution to it.

Someone with hair like mine (super, super fine and flyway) is not going to be able to use the same methods as someone with really thick hair that naturally drops into ringlets.

CounsellorTroi · 31/07/2021 09:49

Ogx Brazilian Keratin Smooth shampoo and conditioner.

Marchingredsoldiers · 31/07/2021 10:02

If I put olive or coconut oil in my hair for ag least 30 minutes before washing, it helps loads.

Then coconut oil on the ends followed by heavy anti-frizz serum.

But funnily the best is wearing a hat in winter. My hair forms perfect loose waves when I take it off inside. I never have the will to walk around with a woolly hair outside though past march. So pretty much tie it back nov- feb.

Thecazelets · 31/07/2021 10:15

Lotions and potions don't work for me either - fine, slightly wavy blonde hair with a few random natural ringlets if I let it dry naturally. I've tried curly girl but although it does enhance the curl it just ends up looking and feeling a bit wet/greasy as there's no weight to it. Argan oil etc have a similar effect. The only thing I've found that has ever made a significant difference is a keratin home treatment - lasts about 8 weeks.

cultkid · 31/07/2021 11:54

Oh man I was really hoping for a one stop product

I've used Hemi Squalone twice now and it's helped a bit

Wish I could blow dry the back of my hair too

Going to look into keratin treatment, thank you

@Thecazelets which Keratin treatment have you used please?

NotMyCat · 31/07/2021 13:09

I was going to say it could well be wavy/curly
First pic is my hair before I went to the hairdresser - it's a dry cut so I have to go with no product in and just washed and air dried it
Second pic is my hair usually with product
