To think nothing does actually tame frizzy hair?

I have fluffy type hair and it only ever looks truly smooth if I go to a hair salon
Ive recently had a blunt cut and I would like my hair to look more tidy.
What can I use? I've tried quite a lot of products
Ive also got extensions in to add to the drama

Thank you

The one product I found that helped mine was unfortunately discontinued. It was a Brazil nut cream from Body Shop. No idea why they stopped selling it as it was the only thing that ever worked.
The only other thing that worked was slightly drastic and involved getting a short haircut so that, if it gets frizzy, no one notices!

rjacksmiss · 01/08/2021 06:06

I've just bought these 3 again. My hair is absolutely disgusting just now. Stupidly went back to using normal shampoo and conditioner and my hair is fluffy, dry, dull, like frizzy curls.

This is expensive but I find myself washing my hair a lot less because it stays sleek and smooth.

The colour wow spray is a life saver too. You spray it on before blow drying and seal it in with a straightener, I usually do a wee ghd wave and it lasts days, stays so silky!

Mind use heat protection spray too.

Cantu products have been a game changer for me. They aren't only for afro hair, but are aimed at wearing your hair curly/wavy.

I have curly hair that's annoyingly fine and frizzes like a halo. Cantu is so much better than any ££ salon crap I've tried.

ParadiseLaundry · 01/08/2021 06:49

As Pp have said, keratin treatment. I used one for the first time (from Amazon) last week and I'm honestly annoyed I've never done it before, I can't believe no one has ever suggested it before! I have very thick curly hair which often gets frizzy.

It's like having different hair as a pp said, it feels so smooth and soft and as I usually just blow dry it, I was worried I would loose some of the body and the curl at the ends but I haven't.

I'll link the one I got. It was about £30 but I've definitely got enough in the bottle and shampoo for another full treatment and I have very long, thick hair. It smells amazing too, like coconut.

I have very big frizzy hair naturally. I use Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, Philip Kingsley conditioning treatments, and straighten it with John Frieda Frizz Ease. It will never be perfectly smooth and shiny unless I go to a hairdresser but it definitely doesn't look frizzy.

Mrstreehouse · 01/08/2021 07:12

Lube! I know it sounds bonkers but it works!

Aurea · 01/08/2021 07:16

This product line has completed transformed my dry, frizz-prone hair into glossy ringlets.

I have long thick wavy hair which can frizz with ease.

  • pantene smooth shampoo and conditioner, I know it's frowned upon because of the silicones but my hair can take it.
  • Silk pillow case
  • Air dry until nearly dry then quick blast with hairdryer to straighten and use loreal extraordinary oil.
  • Boar hair brush helps spread the natural oils from the scalp down.

This is expensive but it's what I do. I wash with aveda dry hair remedy shampoo. Towel dry. Liberally apply elasticizer extreme. Leave it on for as long as I've got, hours if possible. Then wash and condition with olaplex, followed by olaplex hair oil. A blast of hair dryer on cold setting not to fully dry. A quick go with curling tongs - a swipe down the section of hair to smooth it a bit, then twisted up for a few seconds to give structure to the curl that's already there. Hair is still mildly damp at this point and I let it air dry the rest of the way. Hair is quite full bodied at this point but not bushy, and by the next day it's calmed down and is a bit swishy. This will then last a week, but when I brush it the bush effect returns so I try to brush it v little and when I do I apply a little olaplex number 6 to calm it down a bit.

I’ve tried curly girl, silk hat, dyson air wrap, lots of hairbrushes, products, nothing worked.

I found a Parlux hairdryer to be really effective for a smooth blow dry but still took too long for me as I need to separate the hair (lazy!)

A few weeks ago I used this Keratin treatment on myself and it transformed my hair. It took 2.5 hours to apply but should last 3 months.

Now when I wash my hair it starts to dry naturally very rapidly (feels like the hairs are sealed and don’t take in water?), and I just need to run the hairdryer over it for 10 minutes and it looks smooth and groomed. It still has a few kinks that I couldn’t manage to get straight whilst performing the treatment. And it doesn’t feel as silky soft as a salon blow dry. But I’m so happy with it as a way to looking reasonably groomed without much time /effort.

I have also used a silicone free shampoo and conditioner as this is recommended so as not to strip the keratin treatment. (I tried these on their own as part of curly girl and they made no difference).

I do have Steampod straighteners which work well (you need straighteners to perform the keratin treatment) but are a hassle to use regularly.

@NotMyCat ypur hair looks lovely. What product do you use please?

snackodactyl · 01/08/2021 09:11

i’ve used Maria Nila shampoo and conditioner for forever, and rarely use heat tools. my hair has a nice texture and wave when air dried. i recently discovered that the reason why i have a crown of frizzy hair is because i was leaving my hair in a regular towel for too long. i use a Dock and Bay head wrap now and finally the cycle has been broken. don’t be fooled by the cheap microfibre alternatives. don’t know how D&B do it with their thin towels but they work a treat.

Lalalaroo · 01/08/2021 09:39

Olaplex!! All day every day. Changed my hair completely

Mrstreehouse · 01/08/2021 09:48

One look at the curly girl threads and what you realise is you have to find the right product for YOUR hair and what works for one person, may not work for another. It’s trial and error sadly. Some people swear by cantu products, others find coconut does not agree with their hair type at all. Can be expensive and laborious trying to work out what’s a good product.

NotMyCat · 01/08/2021 11:33

@MyMushroomsInATimeSlip I vary it but mostly

A low sulphate shampoo - currently it's as I am co wash
Conditioner with protein - using XHC conditioner
Treluxe serum and gel as styling products
I scrunch the cast out when it's dry

ChloeAndRadcliffe · 01/08/2021 11:42

Yes, Cantu products, especially the curl conditioning cream, which you apply when your hair is still soaking wet. I keep it in the shower and apply immediately after shutting off the water. Then put it in a microfibre turban-towel and pat/squeeze it until it's just damp. Don't rub it or comb it wet, just roughly style it with your fingers and leave it to dry naturally. And get a silk pillowcase or hair wrap. HAVING SAID all that, if the weather is damp or humid, the frizz will happen regardless of what you do. You just have to try not to keep touching it or smoothing it with your hands to minimise it as much as you can.

lemmeavabru · 01/08/2021 11:50

Brush only when wet.
NEVER WHEN DRY.
Pantene oils are good to use on wet hair and brush.
Always tie your hair or pleat before bed.
A good scalp oil massage once a week before hair washing.

Spacehairdresserandthecowboy · 01/08/2021 11:55

Get a proper Keratin treatment (as in the one that costs over £100 at a salon). It’s life changing

AnnaMagnani · 01/08/2021 11:59

If you have fluffy hair, do you actually have wavy hair that is screaming for moisture/protein?

Only Curls/Jessicurl/Ecoslay and a research of what curl type you are will transform your hair.

I thought a leave-in conditioner would weigh my v fine hair down - turned out it was what it had wanted all my life.

MissKeithsNeice · 01/08/2021 12:03

Maybe stay away from shampoo as much as possible. People think co-washing is just for curly hair, but it's awesome for loads of hair types.

I've just been to the hairdressers - they obvs used shampoo and its going to take me a week or two to recover. You would think that it would leave your hair greasy, but it doesn't. I often wash the ends and length of my hair with conditioner but then use shampoo on scalp.

DonLewis · 01/08/2021 12:05

Philip Kingsley elasticiser is the best product I've found.

ellie21 · 01/08/2021 12:25

Owow Smoothing Spray is great!

MyMushroomsInATimeSlip · 01/08/2021 14:13

Thank you @NotMyCat
I think I need to invest in a few products to tame my messy hair
