Caught neighbours using my garden

I have a block of flats next to my house and I thought for a while things have been moved in my garden and it seemed a bit weird. I’ve got a lock on the gate and it’s always locked. So over the weekend I’ve installed a small out door camera under my guttering which records the whole back garden.

So I’ve come home tonight after work (I work the late shift) and found two cigarette butts on the path by my seating area. So I checked the camera and the neighbors have climbed my wall and been sitting in my garden from 2pm until 8pm using my seating and table. To say I’m annoyed is an understatement but how to I confront them as they aren’t the friendliest of people at the best of times. So I guess they’ve been doing this since the nice weather began.

Unfortunately it’s not difficult to see i’m out as I have to drive to work and so once my cars not there they obviously know I’m out.

I just don’t know how to approach this as I’m a single woman and just concerned it’ll escalate but I can’t allow this what would you all do? I thought maybe a note through their door asking them to not use it anymore. They haven’t seen the camera but now I wonder how long it’s been going on.

Can you paint the seats/fence/anything else they might touch?

Definitely paint the fence with something they cannot get rid of easily!

Cimone · 27/07/2021 18:22

Buy a vicious guard dog and let the yard be it's territory. Make sure the dog is well trained, follows commands to sit and 'down" and things like that so it doesn't go around attacking people unnecessarily. But if you have neighbors this bold and you live alone as a woman, they watch your comings and goings... well you need not only knives and other weapons in your home within easy reach, you need something to help you keep watch on the perimeter as well. Those people are ballsy as hell. And with your cameras, if the dog should attack them you can easily prove they were in violation of your posted NO TRESSPASSING signs and the dog was merely protecting it's home. Make sure your dog knows not to eat anything unless you give it to him or her as well. These types are not above poisoning animals to get access to property that is not theirs.

You can't get a dog just to 'post' it in the garden as a deterrent [eye-roll face]

They're cheeky fucks though. I agree about a motion-activated sprinkler system. And a bigger spinier holly bush than the current one.

oakleaffy · 27/07/2021 18:31

High, high fence and a locked gate.

TidyOmlette · 27/07/2021 18:35

I’m sure there’s a spray paint you can buy for burglars that goes on walls and either makes it really sticky or marks there hands and clothing.

AppleKatie · 27/07/2021 18:37

😂fgs don’t buy a dog you don’t want, train it and live with it for 20 years because your neighbour is a cheeky fucker this week.

Wizzbangfizz · 27/07/2021 18:39

This is next level cheeky fuckery

Grace58 · 27/07/2021 18:41

Can you plant something prickly? We have a massive pyrocantha hedge in our garden, it’s horribly spiky and about 12ft tall, I suspect that might do the trick!

Somanysocks · 27/07/2021 18:44

Has anybody said shotgun yet?

MrsFezziwig · 27/07/2021 18:57

Love the way that people are suggesting planting prickly shrubs. So in three or four years when the shrubs have grown tall enough to be of any use, the problem will be totally sorted Confused

Runmybathforme · 27/07/2021 18:57

The nerve of some people, what utter scumbags. Definitely agree with your plan. Please please let us know how it goes. Good luck.

@VeniVidiWeeWee

Why are people suggesting calling the police? Trespass is a civil matter.
But if the OP is at home and has seen potential burglars climbing into her garden and she is alone and scared...
PanamaPattie · 27/07/2021 19:04

The worse kind of neighbours - cheeky and stupid - leaving evidence of their visits.

Things OP also doesn’t need, spending possibly £1000s on a dog and several months to train it 🤣

Oh dear op, I hope they take the hint when they see you’ve planted a spiky bush and removed the cushions

Long past time to quit smoking, whatever it is that you're smoking.

The HA needs to get involved. I work for the ASB team of a HA and this would definitely be in our wheel house. You absolutely will have to report it to the police as well though.

Zhampagne · 27/07/2021 19:22

Another vote for pyracantha / firethorn. The spring blossom and autumn berries are beautiful and the thorns are an absolute bastard.

Wow top ‘journalism!’ Sitting on their arses and scouring forums for ‘stories’ isn’t there a cat up a tree they can write about? 🤣🤣🤣
