White bedding does not look like a hospital bed!

I’ve always had coloured bedding, turquoise and teal usually the colour of choice. I moved in to my new house a few months ago. I thought to myself now the kids are older, I’ll get some nice grown up bedding in white. I made the bed today, lay down thinking -getting Egyptian cotton instead of the usual poly cotton really makes a difference. My 12 year old walks in and says - ‘that looks like a hospital bed all that white’Shock I said- oh don’t you think it cleans clean? Yeah, if your in hospital!! Please tell me I am not alone in liking my new white bedding?

Sleep.......

I don't have much white (only sheets) because I don't think I could keep it bright, but I only use plain dye high thread count pure cotton. Unless for the kids, who have pure cotton with childrens' prints.

You don't have to resort to polycotton if you want some colour, is what I'm trying to say

TheKeatingFive · 26/07/2021 20:58

And if, as it also says in that first article, the whole point of white sheets in hotels is to try to make it clear they’re “clean” and not hiding anything, you know, until you pull out your black light... I suppose I’ve just never felt the desire to replicate that?

Yeah I agree with that. White is very ‘performative’ and signals cleanliness in a very unsubtle way.

It’s not for me, but if you like it OP, who cares what a teenager thinks?

Exactly. Slightly bizarre to imply you do,

GoddamnCars · 26/07/2021 21:02

Why would you take your 12 year old's opinion on this seriously Grin hospital beds have pale green/blue blankets and grey bars at the sides, can't imagine yours looks anything like!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 26/07/2021 21:02

I have a couple of white sets but with just a little embroidered motif. The problem is they yellow terribly after a couple of years. They do also look a bit institutional imho.

GoddamnCars · 26/07/2021 21:03

Also we really need to see a picture just because.

foxandbee · 26/07/2021 21:03

I love white bedding too. No scuffling about trying to find matching pillow cases etc if it is all white.

Drying the bedding in the sun as much as possible prevents this I find.

Love white bedding, I have a a white quilted throw which is grey on the underside I fold it over so there is one grey band across the bed if that makes sense, matching cushions and then two light coloured cushions and matching light coloured throw over the quilted throw. It's a really high bed, I think it looks like a hotel personally and feels luxurious!

I like white calm bedrooms that don't have too much fuss (although my bed probably sounds fussy!)

TwoZeroTwoZero · 26/07/2021 21:14

We have white bed sheets and they look lovely. They're not posh though; I got ours from Tesco. They have a frilly bit on the front near the top and again on the pillowcases so I have to turn my pillow over before I lay on it.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 26/07/2021 21:17

i like white bed linen too, but I like coloured sheets...I have all sorts of blue fitted and flat sheets, but over the top I have pillows to match the sheets and usually a couple extra that match the white duvet cover

I do think it all it all needs to be quite plump and luxurious though....if I have on the summer duvet it never looks as nice as when it's the heavy thick winter one with a plush throw/quilt folded over.

Laiste · 26/07/2021 21:19

I will only have 500+ thread count Dorma bedding in pure white. I will accept a white embroidered pattern or a self white stripe for eg, but it must be white with no colour.

It costs me nearly £200 for a full matching king size set with 6 pillows but the set lasts me about 3/4 years; hot washing every week, off and back on the bed same day. Softer and smoother every wash. Total luxury :)

MinkeDinkie · 26/07/2021 21:20

Ha! Well I have a set of pale mint green sheets - I think they look very hospital-y when hung on the line, to the point I often hope the neighbours don't think I've nicked them Grin

Laiste · 26/07/2021 21:25

I agree the duvet needs to be a puffy one to help the look of the bed. Lots of pillows or a nice big cushion. I like a big feather duvet which keeps that crunchy new sound. M&S i think my current one is. Wasn't wildly expensive. Compared to a basic weekly shop for eg.

My bedding (and DDs) is one of the few things i push for really good quality for. I'll accept cheap crappy other things but not bedding. You're in bed for such a large portion of your life!

I have a pale mint 'ambulance blanket' which was put around DD3 when she had the paramedics called out to her once. They let her keep it around her when i drove her home.

It's lovely! BlushGrin Sort of soft cotton weave with a satin edge. Huge and floppy and perfect for a thin covering when it's hot or when little DD is ill downstairs. Washes beautifully!

Laiste · 26/07/2021 21:31

I'm thinking now i should have returned it! Shock

senoritarita · 26/07/2021 21:35

Nope. The kids 12 years old? Don't give it a second thought

White is nice

ImInStealthMode · 26/07/2021 21:36

White bedding says 'nice hotel' for me. I'd have it at home but we have a black cat who likes the bed so it'd only ever look smart for a minute.

Instead we have plain grey / pink / lavender to tone with the room. I don't like patterned bedding.

DGFB · 26/07/2021 21:38

All white bedding here too.. of a high quality!

TheChosenTwo · 26/07/2021 21:40

I only ever use plain white bedding, the dc have all kinds of bright and colourful patterns and prints, I prefer plain and white.
I don’t iron it though which ruins the hospital/hotel vibe but it does make it look more loved in Grin
Ignore dc, they make no sense at the best of times!

TheChosenTwo · 26/07/2021 21:41

Lived in not loved in Grin
Although… Wink

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 26/07/2021 21:44

This made me laugh.12-year-olds are just so tactful, aren't they? :o

I prefer colourful bedding but you enjoy your B ward-chic style.

Elphame · 26/07/2021 21:58

Not my taste - reminds me of hotel/guest house bedding and I know what happens to that!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 26/07/2021 22:03

I love it.

I spend far too much on it but it washes well and lasts so it is worth it for me.

More so when my old girl used to sneak upstairs and streak herself out on it.
