White bedding does not look like a hospital bed!

Jackthementalkitten · 26/07/2021 00:28

I’ve always had coloured bedding, turquoise and teal usually the colour of choice. I moved in to my new house a few months ago. I thought to myself now the kids are older, I’ll get some nice grown up bedding in white. I made the bed today, lay down thinking -getting Egyptian cotton instead of the usual poly cotton really makes a difference. My 12 year old walks in and says - ‘that looks like a hospital bed all that white’Shock I said- oh don’t you think it cleans clean? Yeah, if your in hospital!! Please tell me I am not alone in liking my new white bedding?

I have a few sets in different colours but like to put the white bedding on for some calm. Also feels cooler in the summer.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 26/07/2021 07:34

White bedding only here. I'm also guilty of when choosing a hotel or b&b tending to go for those with white bedding.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 26/07/2021 07:34

Yes, always white bedding. I switched to sheets and blankets (apart from on the coldest winter nights!) a few years back and love that too. I have a white and cream padded bedspread over the top of crisp white sheets. Love it.

purplesequins · 26/07/2021 07:35

I don't have any white bedding, I spent too much time in hospitals and rehabilitation centres as child.
everything is colourful. mostly bue or green.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 26/07/2021 07:36

White bed linen is definitely not the kind you get in hospital. Perhaps a very fancy private hospital in the US. Hospital colour is a sort of light teal/pale grey-green - DD2 chose this in a duvet cover recently and I thought "hospital bed!" when I put it on, but said nothing as she likes it.

whoopsnomore · 26/07/2021 07:36

I love white bedding, though often something with a slight texture, so that it's not completely plain

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2021 07:39

One of my pet hates is coloured where/duvets. White only on my bed! I always thought hospitals have a weird blue/green colour.

Although DD does have nice stripy ones.

DSs are black - I just don't look.

White anything decor wise makes me uncomfortable. Looks so unloved. Walls, bedding, crockery, clothes. Hate all of them in white. Definitely don't understand the appeal of white bedding, it does look clinical and sad.

But would be boring if we all liked the same things. I am always a bit disappointed at white bedding in big hotels as well. I'm paying all that money and they can't even be arsed picking an actual colour. Makes me think they're lazy!

Nuggetnugget · 26/07/2021 09:01

I love white bedlinen so much. It makes the bedroom look tidy and fresh. I have wallpaper and carpet with colour through it so it doesn't look plain.

StrawberrySquash · 26/07/2021 09:01

I like crisp, clean white bedding in 100% cotton. Although I wish you could get more nice, cotton stuff with a bit of coloured embroidery on it. It can be very plain.

Newbornandupwards · 26/07/2021 09:09

White linen is gorgeous, coloured stuff looks too studenty

I would disagree

I changed all my bedding to white a few years ago I did have a split moment of thinking of a hospital bed, but it passes. I love it, and it’s so easy to manage, if anything goes done you can just replace those bits.

QueenAdreena · 26/07/2021 09:30

I love white waffle bedding. Haven’t had it for a couple of years now as little DC kept on trashing it, but once they’re older will definitely swap back.

Nanalisa60 · 26/07/2021 09:34

I love white bedding, I dress the bed with black throw and black cushions it finish off the, your could use any colour cushions and a throw to brighten up your bed.

InkieNecro · 26/07/2021 09:38

I agree with your dc, sorry! It looks clinical and not very comfy. I have white bedding from the white company and hate it, I'm going to be dyeing it so it looks more inviting!

I'd do the same! I was given a few white babygrows, vests and muslins when DC1 was tiny and dyed them all a lovely emerald green before I'd use them.

@Redcrayons

I only have white bedding. I think luxury 5 star hotel rather than hospital.
And you’re meant to. So many people saying it makes them “think” of luxury hotels. One person saying they looked on RightMove for how to dress a house (good on you) and got white bedding because it created an airy feel. And the man who apparently popularized “white linen in hotels” did it for exactly the same reason - it created a “halo effect” and made guests think their room had been recently renovated. It says hotels use them for that effect and also for the most practical ones: you can wash them all together (same color) and bleach the hell out of them. According to this, if you wanted to be “luxury” (what even is that), I suppose, it would be having a few coordinating colors that had to be washed separately from each other (no quick wash) and couldn’t just be bleached to remove stains. www.travelandleisure.com/hotels-resorts/why-hotels-use-white-bedding

When I was wondering if it was because of the bleaching ability, I found this article that quotes a hotel head of housekeeping, confirming that’s why they do it (bleaching) and one white sheet is cheap to replace anyway (I mean, if there’s an entire set of luxury white high thread count for £50 on sale to the public then you have to assume they’re getting it for 1/20th the price or even less buying wholesale and bulk).
m.metrotimes.com/detroit/hotel-etiquette-if-youre-messy/Content?oid=2149069

And if, as it also says in that first article, the whole point of white sheets in hotels is to try to make it clear they’re “clean” and not hiding anything, you know, until you pull out your black light... I suppose I’ve just never felt the desire to replicate that? High thread count is high thread count; comfortable in any color.

Dobbyisahouseelf · 26/07/2021 12:12

Love, love, love clean white bedlinen.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 26/07/2021 12:28

YANBU. I'm not into white bedding myself but it definitely doesn't look "hospitally" I can see how many people do like it. But it's a bastard to keep nice Grin

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2021 16:21

I don't get the hospital thing with regard to the feel. I don't remember the sheets in hospital being high thread count egyptian cotton, well not the NHS anyway. Grin

DS2 has the same in grey. looks nice, but I still prefer the white.

Brissiegirl · 26/07/2021 20:23

Love cold crisp 500 thread white sheets but I team it up with
a bright throw and cushions for awarmer look in the room. Would like some cream/light coloured linen but haven't so far found coloured high thread count linen.

dementedma · 26/07/2021 20:26

I have white bed linen from Dusk. One set has pink piping, one has blue. It looks smart and feels fabulous

KimmyAndMe · 26/07/2021 20:29

I have the best nights sleep in pure white bedding. I hate coloured bedding.

StoneofDestiny · 26/07/2021 20:49

All my bedding is white - clean, crisp, dazzling white. Hate coloured bedding.
