To ask if you could move anywhere in the UK, where would it be?

Looking to relocate from Kent and have no idea where to! We’ve looked (online) all over the UK, really love Norfolk but need good transport links and also feeling drawn to Cotswolds / specifically chipping norton area. Where would you go in the UK if you could go anywhere and why?

Edinburgh is pretty good. I love it here. Hate the traffic but love the city.

Lj8893 · 25/07/2021 23:16

I’d move back to Chester, my heart is with that city!

Grange over Sands

Otherwise I'd love to live between Wells and Glastonbury. I love that part of the country.

Conchitastrawberry · 25/07/2021 23:17

I live on the south coast but I’d love to live in Cornwall or Devon. Anywhere as long as the beach is within spitting distance.

Streamside · 25/07/2021 23:17

I really like Lewes or Rye, particularly if budget wasn't a problem.

Bellabluea · 25/07/2021 23:21

@baggies

Grange over Sands
My great aunt and uncle retired there. I’m always very jealous when I visit! I have family in Norfolk and I always feel very comfortable and at home there. I’d need to be near the sea too. So possibly the Norfolk coast or Jersey.
Blessex · 25/07/2021 23:22

I went to Cornwall for the first time this year and although loved it - it lacked an architectural style that you get in the Cotswolds (the stone) or Norfolk (the flint). It really stuck out to me.

TheSkatesOfCoachBombay · 25/07/2021 23:25

One of those remote Scottish islands away from people 😂 a little log cabin, a wood burner my dog and books I'll be fine.

But in all seriousness, Lake District.

harverina · 25/07/2021 23:27

@IseeScottishhills

Over the years I’ve lived in many locations in the UK including quite a few mentioned above many are lovely. I now live in Scotland by the sea surrounded my hills I’ve finally found my perfect place there’s nowhere quite like it.
This is my dream!! We are looking for a small holiday home / flat bug really I would love to move! DH and DD’s aren’t up for it though
Rachie1973 · 25/07/2021 23:28

I’d like to go home to Hampshire. My family are all there.

I moved to Essex 18 years ago to marry my husband.

Instead we are going to Norfolk because I’m a soft touch and didn’t make enough of a fuss about it. Norfolk is beautiful but not my dream.

Lemons1571 · 25/07/2021 23:28

I wouldn’t describe Chipping Norton as having good transport links to be honest. And it’s currently full of lost Londoners looking for Clarksons farm shop Grin.

You’d get much better transport links somewhere like Bicester, Thame or outside of Aylesbury, and it’s much quicker and easier by train into town. What about somewhere like Princes Risborough?

emilylily · 25/07/2021 23:30

North Cornwall, I think!

Dahlietta · 25/07/2021 23:30

Definitely the Lake District, but more realistically, the Ribble Valley or Shropshire.

ShagMeRiggins · 25/07/2021 23:32

OP what are your needs, desires, criteria?

Where I live and where I want to live are different because of other important considerations.

Money, children, work, etc.

I love where I live but it’s not my ideal. The first thing I’d do is ask myself what is ideal for me, then factor in the essential needs of others, then the practicalities.

That should help narrow your search.

I live in Dorridge, Solihull and I will honestly happily die here. I moved from a town in Worcestershire which I didn't enjoy at all and after exploring so much of the UK - Dorridge is always lovely to come back to. Our local village has lovely restaurants, shops and lots of things you'd expect!
Within a 10 minute drive of my home, I have Birmingham airport, Birmingham International station which has fast services to London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and pretty much every major city in Britain, M42, a thriving town centre (Solihull) and greenery all around! Not to mention, so safe.
My local station, Dorridge, which is only a 10 minute walk from my home has an hourly service to London and frequent services to Stratford-upon-Avon, Birmingham and other places. Sorry if I went on too much Grin. I just love my home!
If I had to move - I would like to live in Richmond or Kingston.

Just come back from holiday in Dumfries and Galloway to East Mids, and I'm pining and looking at houses for sale in Stranraer. People were much friendlier and there was so much more space. Sitting on my hands not to see what jobs are going as DS needs to stay here for now. Reminding myself that it takes an hour to drive anywhere with reasonable facilities.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 26/07/2021 00:00

Just spent the weekend in north wales and could consider there. I'm a city girl at heart but love being near the sea. Parts of north wales are within easy reach of Manchester/ Liverpool but also have the coast on your doorstep

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 26/07/2021 00:01

Sandbanks Peninsula Poole Dorset

thatonesmine · 26/07/2021 00:02

Eden valley, Cumbria. Beautiful area in its own right, it's also between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales so loads of places to go. Appleby in Westmorland is a lovely town.

RicherThanYew · 26/07/2021 00:39

Rural Scotland. When the opportunity presents itself I will be fucking gone.

AdaColeman · 26/07/2021 00:48

I’d move to Tynemouth, beautiful coast, and easy to get to Newcastle for Fenwicks.

Second choice would be Whitstable.

Thursa · 26/07/2021 02:11

I’m going to augment I’d have the money to buy a dream home?

I’d love Orkney or Shetland. Sea, scenery, town, country, beaches, bliss!

Thursa · 26/07/2021 02:12

Assume, not augment. Where did that come from?

Floralnomad · 26/07/2021 02:29

Kent , so stay put . It’s perfect close to beaches / countryside / London /France .
