I'll start:

The video shop - ahh the days of a walk to the video shop, peruse the same old films, pick one, pick a choc bar (just one small bar) and home to the betamax machine!!
Channels 1 to 4 - So many less arguments when quite simply there was only ever one thing to watch!

Large Easter eggs with the little chocolates inside them
Rather than today's efforts of have a bag in box next to them.

Cinema where there used to be a stop half way through and ice cream tray lady would come out.

@Unfashionable

The 1997-2002 Labour government, which was by far the best in my lifetime. It was all going so well for 🇬🇧 until Blair lost his mind & invaded Iraq, and apart from the London Olympics, it’s all been downhill since.
Absolutely. It felt like such a positive and optimistic time.

Governments that actually wanted to make people's lives better (not fill their own pockets) and are competent, mature and tell the truth. Not sure if one ever existed tbh.

Quantum Leap. X-Files. Eurotrash. Trap Door!

Rik Mayall!

@Laiste

Everyone watching the same big budget film on telly on the same night and then picking it over next day. Not just your own household - everyone! It was a sense of togetherness somehow.

(Having said that - i clearly remember what it's like to have a choice of only 4 channels on TV and no recording/pausing and would not actually want that again so ... Grin)

Yes! I remember when I was at Primary in the 70s and at Monday morning assembly the Head would mention the previous night's film. He went into raptures over The Italian Job and Goldfinger!

Alberto Jojoba shampoo and conditioner. Smelt like heaven.

TheFutureIs · 26/07/2021 08:50

One of East 17 is still touring. He's got 2 other guys as members of the band. One of my highlights of a festival a few years ago

@Tiramiwho

The Brookie Saturday teatime Omnibus, back when it was "Free George Jackson!" and later the body under the patio storyline..( happy days 😁 )
I used to watch Brookie during the week and the Omnibus as well. I remember thinking that Peter Harrison was the most beautiful man I had ever seen.

If I could bring back one chocolate bar it would be Cadbury's Icebreareker. Ooh that mint cracknel was heaven on earth. It was quite a big bar and so far too expensive at 6p especially when my weekly pocket money was only 7p.

Proper big Wagon Wheels instead of the teeny weeny things you get now.

A weekly trip to the sweet shop after church on Sunday morning and my dad buying us all an animal chocolate bar which we were encouraged to save until after dinner. Most kids in my class were the same- sweets were an occasional treat.
The pop man calling once a week and taking turns with my brother and sister to pick the bottle of pop my dad would buy. I had a thing for Dandelion and Burdock.

As a teen, pining over Adam Ant and being so excited when he was on TOTP or featured in Jackie/Blue Jeans etc

Flex conditioner
Benefit moon beam....why are highlighters so metallic now? This was subtle and amazing!
The first few series of Big Brother, I miss everyone watching and talking about it. Back in the days when there were a mix of people and not just insta famous people

knackeredcat · 26/07/2021 08:58

Revlon Outrageous shampoo and conditioner - the smell was amazing and they left my stubborn waves silky and shiny
Mary Quant cosmetics - AFAIK now Japan only, but I felt so grown up getting one of the concealers aged 13 in 1989
YY to Spira bars - also Cabanas. Cherry Ripes are similar but not as good
B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful, particularly those lip paints in the little jewelled heart shaped containers
Various Lush items I've loved, particularly the Kiss Me Klimt bath ballistic
There was an alcopop I loved at the end of the 90s - Vodka Source - was essentially what would now be a hard seltzer as it was boozy fruit flavoured mineral water. Could be relaunched/repackaged

Geamhradh · 26/07/2021 09:17

My first grown up makeup was Mary Quant. In a big vanity case. Loved it and still have the case.
Agree re: Icebreaker and Mint Cracknell (the latter having the edge for me because it reminds me of my nan buying me them from Woolies) and also Midnight Mint chic ices (black and green wrapper with an owl on)

I also thought Peter Harrison was gorgeous. Off to Google him.

DD and I watched all the X File series last summer- so good. Scully with her brown clothes (always, whatever outfit there'd be 6 different browns involved) and makeup. Bet they didn't call them palettes then either.

Adding in Charles of the Ritz makeup.

The ice cream tray lady! and the cartoon before a film! (usually tom and jerry)

Another cosmetic one - Corn Silk loose face powder. I was gutted when this was discontinued. I've never been able to find anything that comes close to it for a relatively flawless coverage.

Visible continuity announcers on TV - so many characters by region. I loved UTV's own Julian Simmons, particularly his quips before Coronation Street and Prisoner Cell Block H Grin

StormOfSekhmet · 26/07/2021 10:38

Hard candy nail polish

StormOfSekhmet · 26/07/2021 10:39
