To keep reporting my neighbour who is constantly fannying around with his registration plates?

Name changed to preserve anonynimty.

One of our neighbours keeps changing his registration plate.

Originally had a black audi with R6 as the plate. Not a valid registration Mark.

Reported it, saw police officers outside and it got changed to a regular valid registration plate.

Recently there was a black Range rover with POL 10 E on with the 0 altered to look like a C Hmm

Reported, but was then the black RR disappeared and the plate was then on a blue RR.

Haven't seen the black RR for a while. But the blue one is there with 6UN on a rear plate only (no front plate at all). The 6 is altered to look like a G Hmm Reported this last week. It's still on the car. When I see the car off the drive it's been driving like it's on Silverstone. In fact all the cars (there's normally about 6 on the drive) at this address are driven inappropriately.

There's also a newly arrived black merc which is untaxed.

AIBU to keep reporting?

The 6UN / GUN plate is also not a valid registration Mark, missed that bit out.

Why does it bother you? I honestly wouldn’t care less

PinkiOcelot · 25/07/2021 13:41

It would probably intrigue me as to what they were doing etc but I don’t think I would report them tbh.

newnortherner111 · 25/07/2021 13:41

Yes, because it could be being used to dodge motoring offences. Or speed, and would you want someone to be injured or killed when you could have done something about it, at least to reduce the harm?

If you knew where he works I would also think about how I could advise his employer because of the risk to his colleagues, assuming there is a physical place of work.

EssentialHummus · 25/07/2021 13:44

Yes. I had this in my old block. The chap ended up in prison for, iirc, some sort of vehicle theft / chop shop type stuff. Masking up plates in itself seems v dodgy to me.

If you are ever in an accident, you'll be really pleased if the other car is properly registered, taxed and insured.

You are doing the right thing OP and thanks!

HollowTalk · 25/07/2021 13:51

Is he a drug dealer, OP? There's clearly something going on there, isn't there?

Cerebelle · 25/07/2021 14:02

I'd be worried about sharing the roads with someone who has such disregard for motoring laws so YANBU.

Mamamamasaurus · 25/07/2021 14:07

That's well shifty, I'd report. For PP who asked why it bothers you - I assume they've never been unfortunate enough to go through the system with someone who's dodgy AF and done shit like this to avoid tax / MOT / insurance / speeding fines etc

araiwa · 25/07/2021 14:17

Drug dealers don't tend to want to attract police attention by fucking about with dodgy registration plates
tootingbeclido · 25/07/2021 14:25

Yes report. .its very dogdy

WhatAShilohPitt · 25/07/2021 15:31

Yes, report it every time. Nobody changes plates to fake numbers unless they are up to dodgy stuff. You’ll be saving the police time tracking him down the line, I’m sure if it.

Wowwe · 25/07/2021 15:35

Cor you must have some time on your hands ….. get a life!!

KeyWorker · 25/07/2021 15:39

I’d keep reporting.

Titterofwit · 25/07/2021 15:43

Certainly keep reporting. If the car owner wasnt up to something dodgy they wouldnt keep putting false plates on.
It takes seconds to report online to your local office .Id say that was a very good use of those seconds.

TattyDevine · 25/07/2021 15:51

Normally I'm a live and let live kind of person but this sounds like he can only be doing this to in some way evade the law and if you tell the police and they have the time and energy to look into it, then you have done no harm. If he's done nothing wrong, they will have nothing on him.

As for the "a lot of time on your hands/curtain twitcher" type comments, ignore. I do my hair or makeup (sometimes even both!) at a mirror on my windowsill for natural light and you see all sorts of activities even if you are not looking for them in that 5 minutes with a hairdryer. None of it is particularly interesting, sadly. I do wish I knew whether the squirrel survived the big fluffy cat though.

user1471447863 · 25/07/2021 17:26

Those plates are more likely to attract unwanted attention from the police than anything. He'll get what he's due sooner or later.
Is he doing something like doing photo shoots or music videos?
By the way, the POL10E plate does belong to a a black 14 plate RR Evoque (with an expired MOT) so nothing to report there

TooWicked · 25/07/2021 17:29

@LawnFever

You would when it smashed into you and they had no insurance.
Gingernaut · 25/07/2021 17:31

Dodgy plates tend to be used when the cars are used for thefts or other crimes.

Witnesses and CCTV footage will report the plates, but clearly, the police can go no further to identify the car or driver as the plates are fake.

Round here, in the Midlands, 'bilking' (stealing fuel from petrol station forecourts) is a big problem and part of the reason why pay pumps are being introduced.

Nogardenersworld · 25/07/2021 19:41

You’ve reported it once
Let it go.

Maybe find something else to fill your time too!

How will you feel if they figure out it’s you that keeps reporting them?

I'd assume that someone who does this kind of low level stupid, antisocial and illegal thing is highly likely to be doing more of the same when driving. Op would likely be doing a favour to victims who would otherwise be unable to trace them.
Daphnise · 25/07/2021 19:52

Years ago I saw a young man who was a distant (several houses away) neighbour, late at night, altering the number plate on his rather beat up car. With black tape he was changing the C to an 0 and a couple of similar things. The registration ended up looking quite different, yet sort of not too different.
At say it was late at night, I couldn't be bothered to do anything about it.

In the OP's case I'd say beyond doubt criminal activity is occurring, but how much OP is going to gain by spending time reporting it, I'm not sure. On balance it's a good thing OP is reporting it- just be sure it cannot be traced back....

I don't imagine the OP is doing it for personal gain, but out of a sense of civic responsibility.

This made me laugh for some reason! Very true though. It’s a professional no-no Grin

Arseholery · 03/08/2021 13:47

Despite having an email from local PCSO a fortnight ago, the RR driver still haring around with his "GUN" plates on.

Effen untouchable Hmm
