To keep reporting my neighbour who is constantly fannying around with his registration plates?

Name changed to preserve anonynimty.

One of our neighbours keeps changing his registration plate.

Originally had a black audi with R6 as the plate. Not a valid registration Mark.

Reported it, saw police officers outside and it got changed to a regular valid registration plate.

Recently there was a black Range rover with POL 10 E on with the 0 altered to look like a C Hmm

Reported, but was then the black RR disappeared and the plate was then on a blue RR.

Haven't seen the black RR for a while. But the blue one is there with 6UN on a rear plate only (no front plate at all). The 6 is altered to look like a G Hmm Reported this last week. It's still on the car. When I see the car off the drive it's been driving like it's on Silverstone. In fact all the cars (there's normally about 6 on the drive) at this address are driven inappropriately.

There's also a newly arrived black merc which is untaxed.

AIBU to keep reporting?

If people knew their neighbour was driving around without insurance would people report them?

DysmalRadius · 05/08/2021 16:29

Nobody who is actually doing anything dodgy wants a personalised or 'worded' number plate. They don't want to be seen.

Having the number plate in itself is dodgy though - nobody buggers around that much trying to make their car unrecognisable unless it serves some purpose.

It's like identity theft - people don't do it just so they can be known by a different name, they do it to create an identity that isn't linked to their real life so the police can't find them and hold them accountable for other crimes.

MatildaTheCat · 05/08/2021 16:33

I’d keep my head down. He doesn’t sound the type to respond well to being reported to the Police. They know about him, leave it to them.

He is as dodgy as.

DysmalRadius · 05/08/2021 16:35

If people knew their neighbour was driving around without insurance would people report them?

Yes I would! And I imagine anyone who has ever been involved in an accident with an uninsured driver would too because its a bloody nightmare!

I get why people don't think it's their problem or responsibility, but when you are on the other side of it, you really appreciate people like the OP who is at least flagging up number plates and creating a paper trail so that if this dickhead does cause an accident, it will be easier for his victims to get justice.

This sort of thing does matter to those of us who have had friends or family killed or seriously injured by people who have no licence/tax/insurance.
It is discouraging to see that that other people don't care.

megletthesecond · 05/08/2021 16:40

Yanbu. I'd be letting the police know. And take sneaky photos.
I live in a crappy estate and get fed up with neighbours turning a blind eye.
**@araiwa* Drug dealers don't tend to want to attract police attention by fucking about with dodgy registration plates*

This made me laugh for some reason! Very true though. It’s a professional no-no Grin
Saw this classy motor not far from me a few months back…

@SweatyBetty20 well he's clearly not very bright. Incorrectly represented number plate gives them an excuse to pull him over, and then their likely to fine drugs etc or something if they look hard enough. Quite likely to find himself being whipped off for drug testing too 😁
Oh well it was nice of him to help point himself out like that.

user1471447863 · 17/08/2021 13:31

@Arseholery is he actually using on the road with those plates?

"I have got so many problems in my life, dreams to achieve and lots to do. I just wouldn't have time to engage in this nonsense. Let it go and live your life. Life is too short."
It's even shorter when you live in an area with insured, dodgy drivers. Let's hope that your dreams aren't taken from you by the criminal activities of others. Posting this on MN nonsense? Yes, being involved in your community and reporting crime? No.

redheadwitch · 17/08/2021 13:51

Is he actually driving with the plates on?
It sounds to me like a car enthusiast who is perhaps taking photos of his car for social media. Its common not to want your actual reg number on display, so he is using these gimmicky ones to cover up.

Dodgy dodgy. Why does he need 6 cars?? One of my neighbours has 5 and there's often random people turning up late at night to look at them or drive them round. They're not always taxed either.

grey12 · 17/08/2021 16:10

@KeyWorker

I’d keep reporting.

Once again (some) people's attitudes to this are insightful and appalling.

Why do (some) people think this is OK? It is a very obvious and very visible way to break the law - essentially saying "fuck you" to the Police and the rest of us who drive legally.
I'm really sick of seeing (and hearing!) cars around here with illegal exhausts, illegal plates (often no front plate at all) and other illegal modifications and driving. Certainly here the Police seem to have lost control of the roads altogether.
