AIBU?

AIBU to go to a&e?

I’ve had bad dizziness, nausea and indigestion type symptoms and cold sweats (not prone to any of this) for an hour, I just really don’t feel right at all.

I googled the symptoms and am now worried it’s heart issues. I took an aspirin and called nhs24 in Scotland. They asked if my neck was hot cold wet or dry and I said normal
And they asked if my lips were blue and I said I wasn’t sure I didn’t think so.

They’ve said they will refer me to out of hours doctor and someone will call me back later today.

As I was googling all I kept reading was how womens heart attacks are missed because their symptoms are different.

I’m not a malingerer or dramatic, I tend to just get in with stuff, but something really doesn’t feel right, maybe it’s just vertigo or something but I’m considering just going to a&e, can’t decide if that’s over the top!

I took an aspirin before I called nhs 24 and am sitting on my floor knees bent just now (if I move I’m too dizzy)

Maybe A&E procedures are changing alongside new COVID restrictions and things are easing a bit.

@Sadsiblingatsea

Could it be vax side effect?

Oh don't!

Tiresome.

Phone 999.

Ambulance comes, they check if you're having a heart attack, you get treatment or reassurance.

If an ambulance was warranted NHS24 would have sent one. They triage using exactly the same questions as 999 (in England, and I assume in Scotland too).

Don’t apologise! I think it’s really important to share all these things that aren’t the “clutching chest” symptoms that we see on tv!

I had something like this, maybe worse IDK, for an afternoon. I had to call an ambulance and they took me to A&E.

But it was just one of those things, maybe some slight bug or whatever.

As I had lose of balance, they were were worried it was a stroke. My blood pressure was going from normal to really low too and stuff.

It wore off. I had to see a consultant the next week but he gave me the all clear.

It's unlikely to be a heart attack.

Wishing you all the best and feel better soon. xx

The wait for an ambulance is currently 14 hours. If this were an emergency the nhs24 people would have arranged for one. Don’t encourage people to ring 999 unless it’s an absolute emergency. The paramedics are not there to provide reassurance.

This is boggling. What is a suspected heart attack if not an absolute emergency?! And the current wait for an ambulance is not 14 hours, not for a life-threatening emergency. Where are people getting this stuff from?!

And the OP said that 111 did call an ambulance, but cancelled it because they live so close to a&e. So your internet diagnostic skills may need a bit of a review.

I've only read to the end of page 1 but it could be norovirus which I'm just getting over now.

It started much the same as you describe, terrible burning indigestion feeling and a bit disoriented. It came on out of the blue. I was vomiting shortly after, all night, then came the diahorrea.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Just RTFT.

Glad you're being checked over. Let us know how you get on and what they think it is.

Could be an inner ear issue.

But as this thread shows, it could be many things.

I'm a frequent visitor in a&e. Whenever there was someone on the door it wasn't to stop people seeking help, it was to ensure that only that person and their carer entered a&e.
There are still those that see a visit as a mass social event and want their entourage tagging along.

Hope you won't be left hanging around too long for results.

The UK is a bloody disaster. Nowhere else in the entire world would someone not go to a hospital if they were worried. More depressing are the competitive not bother the doctorers on here. Doctors are there to be bothered, it's their job. And unless you are actually dying you probably only get to see a crappy nurse anyway. In all the third world places I have visited, hospitals were not places to avoid if you had the potential to die. Remember every time you tell people to ring 111, a call Centre manned by morons with an algorithm, remember you could actually be partially responsible for their death. These threads shouldn't be allowed.

I remember reading a similar thread afew years ago

Poster was worried and wondered if others thought she should go to A&E or not

Lots of posters told her not to be stupid, stay home, Your wasting NHS time, Blah blah

And she listened ! She died, she hd sepsis, she went to bed like advised by people here and she didnt wake back up

I think of her EVERYTIME i see similar responses saying

‘Your not ill enough, You wouldn't be typing, Go to bed, Wait for the GP on Monday, Dont waste NHS money

Some people listen to other posters and take there advice seriously and it can result in someone dying!

Think before you speak

"a crappy nurse"? It was a "crappy nurse" who saved my life in A&E when my condition had been missed by numerous other healthcare professionals. A "crappy nurse" who noticed that my father was having a diabetic episode on the street and saved his life by getting him to hospital when numerous other people had walked on by. And 11 is staffed by "morons" is it? You seem to look down your nose at an awful lot of people. Rude, stupid person.

Nengineer · 26/07/2021 20:56

I'm neither rude nor stupid. People who spout medical advice that could kill out of some misplaced loyalty to the worst Healthcare in the world are. Nobody else in the world has to make do with a phone call or a nurse, everywhere else you see a proper doctor and get your life saved. And why are so many of these specialist nurses clinically obese? The practice in my hometown has a nurse so fat they had to widen her doorway and then she lectures me about taking the pill? Joke. Total and utter joke.

I had similar symptoms. It was the vertigo/ dizziness that worried me. This has happened a few times.es over a period of 2 years. I had to go the first time and they thought I might be having a heart attack. Turned out to be a really bad UTI, I didn't get any of the usual symptoms down there.

Kralia · 26/07/2021 21:20

111 is not staffed by morons but they are forced to become it by their system, which really is moronic. In order to not come to perverse decisions sometimes I suspect some of them risk their jobs to use their brains instead. I had one operator say that the system was telling her to call an ambulance, totally absurdly in the circumstances. She got me a phone appointment instead when we agreed it was bonkers, but that was despite, not because of the system.
