AIBU to go to a&e?

I’ve had bad dizziness, nausea and indigestion type symptoms and cold sweats (not prone to any of this) for an hour, I just really don’t feel right at all.

I googled the symptoms and am now worried it’s heart issues. I took an aspirin and called nhs24 in Scotland. They asked if my neck was hot cold wet or dry and I said normal
And they asked if my lips were blue and I said I wasn’t sure I didn’t think so.

They’ve said they will refer me to out of hours doctor and someone will call me back later today.

As I was googling all I kept reading was how womens heart attacks are missed because their symptoms are different.

I’m not a malingerer or dramatic, I tend to just get in with stuff, but something really doesn’t feel right, maybe it’s just vertigo or something but I’m considering just going to a&e, can’t decide if that’s over the top!

I took an aspirin before I called nhs 24 and am sitting on my floor knees bent just now (if I move I’m too dizzy)

I learned recently that menopause is a risky time for heart attacks in women. Having periods protects you.

I sadly lost a friend at 49 to a heart attack, hence why the OP shouldn't mess about.

Hmmmmm I’m menopausal, I still feel slightly nauseous but more lightheaded and am now freezing, still have a slight burning in chest, off to bed to warm up and wait for out of hours to call

Are you home alone OP? If so please get yourself to A&E. Don't wait for out of hours to call.

If someone is with you get them to check on you regularly!

LakieLady · 25/07/2021 13:05

I think you should go to A&E too, OP.

chellingham · 25/07/2021 13:09

A and E. heart attacks in women can present in completely different ways to the traditional ways you expect

polkadotpjs · 25/07/2021 13:10

A and E as others have said especially with burning chest

Mischance · 25/07/2021 13:13

Don't take any more aspirin! If it is a gastric problem it will make it worse.

At your age and weight it could indeed be gallstones. Hope you get some sound advice from the OOH doc.

BlueyIsMyBae · 25/07/2021 13:16

No one on here can diagnose you. But yes, if you're worried, go to A&E. My mum had a heart attack and her main symptoms were indigestion / nausea.

stayathomegardener · 25/07/2021 13:18

Bicarb of soda in a small glass of water and if that doesn't relieve the indigestion then a and e

SilverBirchWithout · 25/07/2021 13:27

I think it’s much more likely to be gallstones (sex, weight, and age would indicate more likely). Although you still need to be checked out by a doctor soonish.
Hopefully you will be referred to an OOH service.

SilverBirchWithout · 25/07/2021 13:29

Although even with gallstones it can be serious, with my first attack I had sepsis. The chills concern me, have you anyone with you?

SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2021 13:36

A&E. Better to be wrong than not go.

billiebeeme · 25/07/2021 13:39

You might be sitting in a&e for hours though still not being seen. I'd wait to hear bk about out of hours gp unless you start feeling worse. if you need to go to hospital they'll often get u an ambulance depending how serious it is and you'll be seen when you get there a lot quicker.

AddsVsGeorgs · 25/07/2021 13:45

The wait in A&E in long

BUT
You will have your heart rate, blood pressure and Oxygen done straight away, and then an ECG quickly, if not immediately and blood tests soon after

If its your heart, you WILL NOT be sitting there hours !

veeeeh · 25/07/2021 13:48

I'd go to A+E now. You will be triaged, and fast tracked if they suspect HA. If it turns out not to be that well that's great. No point in being a martyr, you are not going in with a broken fingernail. This sounds like an emergency to me. I would not wait a minute longer TBH. Best of luck.

vegas888 · 25/07/2021 13:55

Have you tested to see if you have covid or have you recently been vaccinated?

SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2021 14:00

But ooh can call the OP whilst she is waiting at A&E and she will be triaged quickly, even if waiting to then be seen. If she collapses or takes a turn for the worse, she can alert someone immediately and seek help.

If you can drive or get someone to drive you to A&E, it’s better than getting an ambulance. It’s also not true that you are seen quicker. Paramedics queue up in a separate queue than the one seen by those in the waiting room but the patients queue for their turn nonetheless.

jessycake · 25/07/2021 14:03

Ignore everyone on here , if you are worried go , an ECG and blood test will tell whether you are having a heart attack .

A and E. They’ll do an ecg and blood tests and easily be able to tell you if it’s heart related.

greacarrot · 25/07/2021 14:10

I am an ED doc and think you are reasonable to go to ED.

shenanigans5 · 25/07/2021 14:10

It is completely and perfectly acceptable to go to A&E or even phone 999 if you suspect a heart attack. Time really is of the essence with cardiac issues and no doctor or healthcare professional will think you’re time wasting. A quick set of obs and an ecg will rule it out quickly.

Honestly- some of the advice on this thread is dangerous.

shenanigans5 · 25/07/2021 14:11

Don’t drive there yourself- obviously.

Ostryga · 25/07/2021 14:21

Phone 999 now op. This could either be an emergency or not. And it would be better to make sure it’s not!

Ignore the posters that think you should actually be dead before it’s deemed important enough to phone for help.

The whole point of TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS is that they can tell you if it’s serious or not. Call an ambulance now.

BungleandGeorge · 25/07/2021 14:22

Get someone to take you to a&e or call a taxi. So what if it’s a long wait, if you get worse you’ll be in the right place. Don’t panic yourself as it could be many things (I had food poisoning that started mainly with dizziness, disorientation, cold sweats) but it’s really not worth taking a chance
