About McCain's funeral being infested by Kushners: it wasn't that they had no right to be there, exactly, it was that they lacked the courtesy not to be.

lionheart · 24/10/2021 13:50

Yes, that's right.

I wonder if Trump will have the sense to realise that his people will want new targets, new talking points since that's how reality tv works. It has to be familiar but also include novelty. Otherwise people will tune in to another channel.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/10/2021 13:52

@lionheart

Oh, he may start off with the 'bugbear' du jour, but it'll always devolve into "I was robbed" of the 2020 election. Or mentioning that he doesn't like golden showers.

'When rooting out corruption, it’s best to follow the money. That is precisely what the Jan. 6 Committee is now doing according to reports out Friday detailing lawmakers’ highly organized effort to sniff out potential criminality in funding for pro-Trump rallies coordinated ahead of the assault on the Capitol.

First reported by CNN, the committee is digging into financial details around Stop the Steal rally organizers and other similar vendors on their radar. In particular, they are rooting out possible campaign finance or election law violations, as well as other financial crimes.'

Are the canaries finally singing? Pretty damming account in Rolling Stone. But will it lead directly back to Doofus?

Jan. 6 Protest Organizers Say They Participated in ‘Dozens’ of Planning Meetings With Members of Congress and White House Staff.
Two sources are communicating with House investigators and detailed a stunning series of allegations to Rolling Stone, including a promise of a “blanket pardon” from the Oval Office.
www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/exclusive-jan-6-organizers-met-congress-white-house-1245289/

Along with Greene, the conspiratorial pro-Trump Republican from Georgia who took office earlier this year, the pair both say the members who participated in these conversations or had top staffers join in included Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas).
“We would talk to Boebert’s team, Cawthorn’s team, Gosar’s team like back to back to back to back,” says the organizer.

Lordy.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/10/2021 12:30

I can't help thinking it is naive to the point of utter stupidity to take

“I was just going over the list of pardons and we just wanted to tell you guys how much we appreciate all the hard work you’ve been doing,” Gosar said, according to the organizer.

as a promise of a pardon. It isn't.

Very long read

sethabramson.substack.com/p/breaking-news-new-evidence-emerges

PROOF UNLOCKED: With tonight's breaking news from ROLLING STONE about Lauren Boebert's involvement in pre-insurrection meetings with January 6 organizers, I'm unlocking this recent PROOF article on precisely that subject. I hope you'll read and share.

Roussette · 25/10/2021 17:28

I read that long article before and I'm just gobsmacked that Boebart, with a list of criminality as long as your arm, is actually serving as a Rep. Would that happen in the UK? I don't think so.

Does a criminal record not exclude you from serving?

Roussette · 25/10/2021 17:57

This is interesting

Facebook is now cooperating with the January 6 committee, per chair Bennie Thompson this morning.

This is massive. Yes, many of the Jan 6 posts were public and documented — but many others were in private groups. And this also means getting all the Messenger group threads.

PerkingFaintly · 25/10/2021 19:56

Woah! Facebook co-operating is interesting in several ways.

Partly because of evidence pertaining to 6 Jan; partly because Facebook doing something to help anyone other than Facebook is a shift.

I wonder if they're feeling a little heat after Frances Haugen's evidence to the Senate? She was in London today giving evidence to a Parliamentary committee on the Online Safety Bill. (I missed this, alas, so must make time to watch the vid.)

Frances Haugen is right.

The idiot son said it's payback on Alec Baldwin; does it occur to him the the principle sufferers are the dead woman, her husband and her child.

Just when you think the Trumps can't sink any lower, they dig out a new sub basement

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/10/2021 21:38

Sooner or later they'll hit magma.

Well, we can hope.

'They called it the “command center,” a set of rooms and suites in the posh Willard hotel a block from the White House where some of President Donald Trump’s most loyal lieutenants were working day and night with one goal in mind: overturning the results of the 2020 election.

The Jan. 6 rally on the Ellipse and the ensuing attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob would draw the world’s attention to the quest to physically block Congress from affirming Joe Biden’s victory. But the activities at the Willard that week add to an emerging picture of a less visible effort, mapped out in memos by a conservative pro-Trump legal scholar and pursued by a team of presidential advisers and lawyers seeking to pull off what they claim was a legal strategy to reinstate Trump for a second term.'

Four years ago ...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-59054166

'Over four years after a deadly far-right extremist rally in Virginia, organisers of the event are facing a civil trial to determine whether they should be held responsible for the chaos that ensued.

The "Unite the Right" rally that began on the night of 11 August 2017, in Charlottesville, was seen as a defining moment in recent American history.

An alleged neo-Nazi plowed into counter-protesters with his car, killing one and injuring dozens of other.

Now, nine people injured in the violence are suing 24 of the organisers and promoters, some of whom have gained notoriety as self-declared leaders of the "alt-right". Jury selection began on Monday and a trial is due to start as early as this week.'
