My DDs are US citizens, so yeah, skin in the game. A lot of family over there too, split evenly down the middle between Trump-loving Republicans and relieved Democrats.

It's a 'global world'. Problems in one country can mean problems in another. Especially (I think) when it comes to countries that have been/are 'interconnected', like the G7 countries.

As far as Doofus not having been POTUS 'for 18 months', well maybe since the last 4 years seemed like it lasted a century to us, maybe a Doofus supporter's sense of time is now the one that's skewed.

I don't know what thread you all are speaking of. I'll have to have a little nosy around. Or maybe not. I'm having a peaceful morning and probably would prefer not to ruin it.

pointythings · 26/07/2021 14:23

Across please don't bother. That thread is all about how Biden must have dementia, how he sniffs little girls, how the trans issue means that Trump was brilliant for women's rights, how great Trump was on immigration - whitewash is too small a word.

Roussette · 26/07/2021 14:59

Across I looked at the beginning of the thread and decided to move away from it.

All I know is.... the US and the world is a helluva lot more peaceful than when Trumpy was in power. Every day turned into a shitshow of some sort or another.

And he's still bleating on how he won... he's after all the 'routers' now to prove it.

This is his most uhinged rant ever.

I do think his support is hemorrhaging by the day though. It's just become habit, for some of his cult, to carry on supporting him even if they don't have a clue what he's talking about.

Trump pressures McConnell, GOP to ditch bipartisan talks until they have majority.

Such a deal would be a win for President Biden and his agenda, and it would be on an issue where Trump repeatedly tried and failed to secure a deal. Trump as president announced support for a $2 trillion infrastructure package, but no bill ever materialized.

@Roussette @pointythings

Yeah, NO!!! (on that thread) When I located it I realized that I'd glanced at it when it first started and just thought 🙄 and stepped away. My opinion hasn't changed now that I've glanced at the last page.

That's 30 seconds I'll never get back 😆🤮

lionheart · 26/07/2021 20:07

Step away from the other thread. Smile

Presumably this man knew nobody at the school, or the parents of any of the dead children, or he would know they were not all actors or paid off (why? By whom?)

But... Surely at the point at which security for 6th January was being arranged the Speaker was Mitch McConnell, not Nancy Pelosi? She only became Speaker on 3rd.
AcrossthePond55 · 27/07/2021 20:52

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

McConnell was Senate Majority Leader and President Pro Tem of the Senate (the VP is the 'actual' Senate President) until 21/1/2021.

Pelosi has been the Speaker of the House (her 2nd term) since 3/1/2019.

And Elise Stefanik is full of shit.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/07/2021 20:57

Oh, right. Wrong House. Sorry.

But it does seem to me that if even panic-stricken pleas from Republicans who thought they might be about to be killed by a mob didn't get any response from the people in a position to send help got no response, blaming someone who no doubt was also at that point asking for reinforcements to assist the Capitol police for them not turning up to assist is a little unreasonable. Or as you so aptly put it, Elise Stefanik is full of shit.

DuncinToffee · 27/07/2021 21:08

Yes she is full of shit and lies, just like these

An attempt to hold a press conference by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz and company was just shut down by protesters
twitter.com/atrupar/status/1420070917154164742?s=19

But people believe this shit.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 28/07/2021 08:16

Republicans just couldn't be arsed. Pathetic posturing shits.

From Washington Post:

House Republicans began Tuesday morning by calling the upcoming inaugural hearing of the chamber’s investigation into the Jan.6 attack on the Capitol a “sham” and a “political charade.” After it concluded in the early afternoon, they provided myriad reasons for why they did not tune in to the harrowing testimony provided by four police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol that day against a mob of President Donald Trump’s supporters.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he was “booked in all these different meetings.”
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told reporters he was tied up with a committee hearing.

Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), who rose to her position after her predecessor was sacked for criticizing Trump’s role in the attack, declined to say whether she watched.

Rep. Matthew M. Rosendale (R-Mont.) said he did watch — but only the opening statement from Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who has joined the panel in defiance of her party, not the officers’ testimony.
“I was quite disappointed,” he told ABC News.

They can't defend the indefensible so by not watching they can continue to pretend nothing happened.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/07/2021 11:13

@DuncinToffee

I'm fairly sure they don't have to watch it at the time of original transmission; there are ways to catch up on programmes you had to miss because you were hoovering the dog or halfway up a climbing wall when they were first broadcast.
