@lionheart

The timing of this letter is no accident.
That letter is pure von Daniken. It goes directly from "if true" to "it has been stated" without apparently noticing that these are not the same thing.
DuncinToffee · 18/09/2021 12:27

It also comes after Gonzalez announcing his retirement on Thursday

1 down, 9 to go' Trump said in a statement

DuncinToffee · 18/09/2021 12:29

The other nine House Republicans have also faced backlash, including from Trump, members of their party and primary challenge threats. But they're also well positioned in that their campaigns have raised in most races more money than their primary challengers.

Interesting that this is where they decided to draw the line--a political rather than principled calculation?

AcrossthePond55 · 18/09/2021 19:41

Guess, their 'righteous rally' was a bit of a damp squib. I just hope it's an indicator for future rallies, especially Doofus' rallies.

"National Guard troops were stationed in and around the Capitol from early January through late May, with as many as 5,200 troops in place at the mission's peak."

And there were at least 2,500 American troops in Afghanistan during those months.

21st century. Sad

Biden may not have sanctioned this but ICE and border control act like they still answer to Trump. Why?

On a more positive note, Sheldon wants answers.

'One of the senators bulldogging this issue is Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, who’s interested in a number of unresolved issues regarding the Kavanaugh confirmation—including, intriguingly, the questions surrounding the evaporation of Kavanaugh’s heavy personal debts. Whitehouse is pretty clearly out of patience with Wray and with the FBI.'

(CNN) 'Despite all the scientific and medical advances of the past 103 years, the Covid-19 pandemic has now killed more Americans than the 1918 flu pandemic did.

More than 675,000 people in the United States have died from Covid-19, according to Johns Hopkins University. That surpasses the estimated US death toll from the deadliest pandemic of the 20th century.
"If you would have talked to me in 2019, I would have said I'd be surprised," said epidemiologist Stephen Kissler of the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.'

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/09/2021 12:09

There are rather more people in America now than there were then, though, so it isn't really a fair comparison. 103,208,000 then, 331,445,000 now.

That was my initial thought too.

It is however still unforgivable as the US is supposed to be a 1st world country regarding healthcare Sad

Good lord.

Yes, that statistic is misleading -- the numbers don't need to be dressed up to make people realise the impact.

Here is the DHS response to those pictures.

www.thenation.com/article/politics/wray-fbi-nassar/

'Wray has a pattern of refusing to pursue powerful men like Brett Kavanaugh and Larry Nassar on behalf of women and people of color.'

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/09/2021 17:46

@DuncinToffee

According to the CNN article, Allegations into Nassar were first brought to the agency in July 2015. Wray was confirmed as director in 2017.
So that's Comey (who was deplorable in many if not most respects), followed by a temp, followed by Trump-appointed Wray.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/09/2021 18:05

Incidentally and on a different subject, reports that "all" the US and UK weapons were left for the Taliban to pick up do seem to have been somewhat exaggerated (as I knew already, given that most of the UK ordnance was destroyed back in 2014 before we pulled out that October: I knew someone involved in its destruction that year).

www.snopes.com/fact-check/us-taliban-arsenal-military-equipment/

Still far too much left behind, but not the amount the GOP stooges have been claiming.

lionheart · 21/09/2021 18:16

That is good news.

Absolutely NOT making an excuse for this behaviour. But Doofus let ICE agents know in pretty plain language that 'anything goes' in more than one speech to them at the Border. Plus he told them "I'll see that you're OK" and "I'll take care of your legal fees" if they 'got into trouble'. For those that found his words 'acceptable' it speaks to a 'cowboy mentality' that is hard to change. Words won't do it. I hope the ICE OIG lands on them like a duck on a June Bug!
AcrossthePond55 · 21/09/2021 18:42

These two lawsuits will be worth following:

www.npr.org/2021/09/20/1039122713/doctor-texas-abortion-sued

One filed by a disbarred Arkansas lawyer, the other filed by a pro-choice Chicago lawyer. Both supposedly to test the Constitutionality of the Tx law itself.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 21/09/2021 19:09

Remember these 2 jokers?

Missouri couple who pointed guns at protesters may have law licenses revoked.
Mark and Patricia McCloskey investigated over ethical complaints following June 2020 confrontation with protesters.
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/sep/21/mccloskey-missouri-couple-guns-protesters-law-licenses-revoked?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I do remember reading Mr. Gun-pointer was going to stand as a GOP candidate somewhere... and yep!
Mark McCloskey is now running for the Republican nomination to contest a US Senate seat next year. Campaign ads use images of the confrontation with protesters.
