Bouncy castle in the street

daphnedoo12 · 24/07/2021 11:30

Hi,

I live in a street that is blocked off half way by bollards, it has a widening to allow cars to turn around. We do not have front gardens, it's terraced housing.

We park our cars directly outside of our house.

Neighbour (many, many issues with this neighbour) has now set up a huge bouncy castle in the middle of the road.

I can just about turn my car around to get out of the street, although with great difficulty and also with the risk of hitting a child as there is now about 15 of them in the middle of the road.

Anyone parked further up would struggle to actually get their car out.

Is this even legal? We have decent sized yards?? I don't understand why it needs to be in the middle of an actual road. It's so dangerous!

I sound like a party pooper, I have a DS and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing this, no adults are constantly with the children, they're in/out their houses and it's just so worrying.

Am I just a party pooper or am I right to be concerned about this?

Neighbour 4 doors up has kicked off threatening to ring the police. Neighbours who have the bouncy castle just shouted obscenities at him.

What a nightmare.

@StripyGiraffes I'm always baffled why people like this have children in the first place.

It's the passport to state benefits and a "job" for those who didn't bother at school or are too lazy to get a proper job.

All capped now to 2 kids only not a full footie team like in the past for some well round my area I grew up in.

Kokosrieksts · 24/07/2021 20:14

I won’t believe this unless I see a photo. Surely nobody can be that crazy?

LagunaBubbles · 24/07/2021 20:27

I can just imagine this, sone people really are so entitled.

Amandasummers · 24/07/2021 20:52

Off topic, but bouncy castles can and are regularly put up on hard surfaces (school playgrounds for example) they are normal weighted down with sand bags etc and obviously there should be crash mat at any entrances or exits!

ilikecheesecake · 24/07/2021 21:02

Sorry this sounds great for the kids. Wana do a house swop? You can live in my boring quiet neighbour hood where there are no kids around and full of quiet elderly people? id love to live in a street that did things like this.

Be careful what you wish for.
pollylocketpickedapocket · 24/07/2021 21:15

Maggies farm they are many areas that are ghettos where elderly, disabled and many other types of vulnerable people live in fear. They exist and have done for many years.
Also if housing officers can be hoodwinked into not seeing true characters, they must be deaf, blind and stupid.
It’s obvious to anyone with common sense.

Blufandango · 24/07/2021 21:16

If the offending bouncy castle is located close to a large Tesco, I may have passed earlier. It did not look fun for the neighbours

daphnedoo12 · 24/07/2021 21:27

@ilikecheesecake gladly. Come move in now, it's not for the neighbourhood kids. It's not been arranged as a communal thing

Surely it's still not going on, OP?

Round here you can't hire a bouncy castle unless it'll be in a grassy area.

TopBlogger · 24/07/2021 21:49

Did the police come out @daphnedoo12?

I know about ghetto areas too, have seen them. I had a friend who lived in one for a few years but she was able to move out eventually. I used to be scared to visit her (though I did).

I'd think you would be on your best behaviour with a housing officer but I honestly don't know.

One's I've hired before specifically prohibited being used on hard, oaved surfaces. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Perhaps you have to pay higher insurance tor that due to the increased risks....

Yes. Because of shortages of social housing the mix is often toxic nowadays. Anti social and dysfunctional households don't make great neighbours for vulnerable people who often have no choice as to where they live. Many of the more desirable estates have few properties left for social rent, due to the Right to Buy.

I hope the police have respnded.

Schools tend to put them on fields though. I know our school did that, along with crash mats. My daughter still fell off it and broke her arm.

What a disappointing threat. Promised so much drama in the beginning. 😂

Yes. Did the police come? How long was the bouncy castle there? So many unanswered questions.
daphnedoo12 · 25/07/2021 14:19

Police came at 7pm. They told them to remove it assume as the bouncy castle company was there within 20 mins.

Music was told to be turned off, actually sounded like the police were having fun laughing and joking.

I spoke to the guy who couldn't get his car out this morning, he ended up walking around the corner and getting a taxi back and forth. He's putting a complaint in to the council on Monday. He told me it's the 5th complaint he's made but nothing gets done, he said multiple neighbours feel the same

Biker47 · 25/07/2021 14:24

I'd complain to the council too, get the anti-social behaviour logged with them, probably be a while to get them evicted if at all though.

daphnedoo12 · 25/07/2021 14:27

It all died down outside by 8pm, party carried on indoors much to my annoyance but hey at least we could all move our cars after 9 hours of being blocked in Hmm
