Bouncy castle in the street

daphnedoo12 · 24/07/2021 11:30

Hi,

I live in a street that is blocked off half way by bollards, it has a widening to allow cars to turn around. We do not have front gardens, it's terraced housing.

We park our cars directly outside of our house.

Neighbour (many, many issues with this neighbour) has now set up a huge bouncy castle in the middle of the road.

I can just about turn my car around to get out of the street, although with great difficulty and also with the risk of hitting a child as there is now about 15 of them in the middle of the road.

Anyone parked further up would struggle to actually get their car out.

Is this even legal? We have decent sized yards?? I don't understand why it needs to be in the middle of an actual road. It's so dangerous!

I sound like a party pooper, I have a DS and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing this, no adults are constantly with the children, they're in/out their houses and it's just so worrying.

Am I just a party pooper or am I right to be concerned about this?

Neighbour 4 doors up has kicked off threatening to ring the police. Neighbours who have the bouncy castle just shouted obscenities at him.

I hope the police respond soon. That sounds very dangerous.

Sounds like the perfect child's party Hmm

DameFanny · 24/07/2021 12:35

Worth a call to the bouncy hire place as well - they have a responsibility to ensure their things are installed safely - maybe you can get the neighbour blacklisted?

Maddison12 · 24/07/2021 12:35

Is the bouncy castle literally blocking cars in? Shock Can you do a diagram OP?

strawberrydonuts · 24/07/2021 12:36

@daphnedoo12

I feel bad because it's clearly something to do with one of her kids birthdays, but we have yards and they are decent sized and could easily fit a bouncy castle in them so why oh why does it have to be slap bang in the middle of the street Confused
Some people are just incredibly entitled. Presumably there's more space in the middle of the street so they decided to put it there without considering anything else other than their own wishes.

The only way to deal with something like this is to talk to the police, because these people are obviously not considerate enough to listen to/ care about their neighbours. The fact that they've done this in the first place is enough to tell you that so there is no point in getting into back and forth discussions/ arguments with them.

This is obviously illegal and your other neighbours are bothered by it too, so just crack down on it and you don't have to explain yourself. It's pretty black and white.

This is like the ultimate in CF and Parking threads.

It needs a diagram OP.

Paq · 24/07/2021 12:38

Maybe a diagram then?

Bloodypunkrockers · 24/07/2021 12:39

Is it definitely a
public road? You said it was
blocked off halfway so is it one of these Safer Spaces for People that encourage use of the road?

Either way, selfish fits and their reaction to your other neighbour is the reality for many of these disputes. Some people are just entitled arseholes

Pingued · 24/07/2021 12:40

@icedcoffees

Someone did this on our back street yesterday - only instead of a bouncy castle it was a 12ft swimming pool filled with water Hmm
😮
Maddison12 · 24/07/2021 12:41

Can't believe it got to page 3 before diagram was mentioned Grin

icedcoffees · 24/07/2021 12:42

@Pingued yep, I know! It was bonkers.

I walked past with the dogs and I did a bit of a double-take! Not sure if it's still there today but it wouldn't surprise me, lol. Luckily we park out the front but I can imagine it causing quite a few issues for some.

Pingued · 24/07/2021 12:43

icedcoffees not an everyday sight!

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/07/2021 12:45

Are you in the UK? The council will make them remove it, you need a permit to place anything on a public street, even a skip.

BrozTito · 24/07/2021 12:45

Been some awful fatalities from bouncy castles recently. If that idiot put it up it could have a tragic outcome

DumplingsAndStew · 24/07/2021 12:46

Wow, this is the ultimate parking CF thread. (In a line of CF parking threads by first time posters in the past day or two)

fourminutestosavetheworld · 24/07/2021 12:47

If it's in the street rather than their garden I'd assume they were trying to do a nice thing for all of the local children - not a private party in the garden but an 'everyone welcome' thing.

Ridiculous to do it without asking neighbours though, and to block drives. Can't you walk past with a sharp object?

BrozTito · 24/07/2021 12:48

How do people like this manage to get through life? Blocking your neighbour in for work then ignoring them?

PhilCornwall1 · 24/07/2021 12:51

Apart from talking to the neighbours, there is the little matter of the due process they have to follow with the local authority to hold a street party.

daphnedoo12 · 24/07/2021 12:52

@fourminutestosavetheworld trust me I wish this was the case but it isn't. They're known as not being approachable, you certainly wouldn't want your children around them. Shouting, swearing, leaving their tiny children wandering around all hours. Social services involvement, the works.

There's been countless complaints to the council, nothing seems to get done. They aren't community spirit kind of people

MrsWhites · 24/07/2021 12:59

I’d ring the bouncy castle company if you can see the name, they usually have some sort of advertising on the castle themselves.

I’d tell them I am reporting it to the police as it’s illegal and not tethered properly.

EastWestWhosBest · 24/07/2021 13:00

Who would ever think this was a good idea?

QueenStromba · 24/07/2021 13:01

By punching anyone who complains about their behaviour probably.
Nocutenamesleft · 24/07/2021 13:03

Could you imagine if someone did this in the middle of the M25.

No road. Nothing can be erected.

user1471538283 · 24/07/2021 13:06

Good God! Please let us know what the police have done!

TSSDNCOP · 24/07/2021 13:06

I would bet good money there is no bouncy castle company behind this one. Any that I have ordered in the past are rightly obsessed with tethering and laying ground mats. It is windy here today and picking up again mid-afternoon. I'd go crazy if a bouncy castle blew onto my car, and that isn't even considering there might ne little kids inside.
