Random car parked on my drive!

dh has just come back from work and parked across the road. I asked why he hasn't parked on our driveway and he said he thought we had visitors.
I've gone out and there's a random car on our driveway! Knocked on neighbours door but they don't know who's it is. (They are really nice and we get on with them so they would have told them to move if it was anything to do with them).
AIBU to move the car and block them in?

How does that conversation even go?

"They said they've knocked several times and been ignored".
"They didn't knock at all. We sat up waiting. We made fun diagrams. We updated mumsnet. Husband got all ready in a hazmat suit."
Then they go, "oh yeah, we lied. We didn't knock" and the police just let them bloody go?!?

Sparklfairy · 24/07/2021 00:37

@CanofCant

The fucking pricks. I hope they learned their lesson.

Excellent thread though OP, you handled it with grace and good humour. 🍻

More likely they know they can do it again and not have to face the music, just get the police to sort it for them. Cowards. I'm actually disgusted the police came out so quickly for something that was self inflicted.
harverina · 24/07/2021 00:37

They should lock em up and throw away the key!

30scrisis · 24/07/2021 00:38

Just RTFT instead of going to sleep. Nearly crying 😂😂 The cheek of them to lie to the police though!!!

Doubt it the entitled twats. The police should have gone further than warned them. Breathalysed them and inspected the car for failures etc being the very minimum - make them wish they hadn’t bothered the police and then lied.
mamawithfive · 24/07/2021 00:38

This has been hilarious! What a cheek thinking they can park in someone's drive because they thought they were on holiday!
Happened to us a few years ago - neighbour informed us there might be some noise at the weekend because they were having a family party at their house, and as we had a young baby they wanted to tell us beforehand. I said no worries because we were actually away that week.
We were only actually 15 minutes away looking after my parents dog whilst they were on holiday.
I popped home the night of the party to collect some bits for the baby - and my driveway was full of partygoers cars!! My neighbour was in his front garden and looked so embarrassed! He did apologise and I said it was fine as I wasn't stopping. but the look on his face gave me a good laugh!

SlothinSpirit · 24/07/2021 00:39

It's a shame you and your DH had to fess up that you were able to move the car. Nowt the police could have done if you'd had a couple Grin.

UftUft · 24/07/2021 00:40

The other man from earlier has just come round and apologised, he didn't know they'd called the police and he felt stupid.
They allegedly know the people who are on holiday and were having their friends round and they had permission to park there.
I've said I wasn't best pleased with it getting to the point, they could have knocked and we'd have most likely moved it.

Sunbird24 · 24/07/2021 00:40

I guess they would have asked if you were happy for one of the cops to move it for you, rather than just telling CFs it was tough and they’d have to come back tomorrow

The other neighbour better bring you some wine and chocolates tomorrow. If my friends had done this to my neighbours, I would be so mortified I would buy them the BIGGEST fucking treat basket the world has ever seen.
BrozTito · 24/07/2021 00:42

They can they just ddrive it themselves

CanofCant · 24/07/2021 00:42

Yes, you're probably right that the entitled wankers won't have learned anything. I'd be tempted to keep an eye out for their car at their friend's house down the road. Not that you could really do anything. Grrr, I'm impotent with rage for you OP!

pastafeend · 24/07/2021 00:42

I would have gone out an hour and a half ago when you overheard them saying they got the wrong drive and let them out tbh.

The wasting police time thing, I fail to see how it fits tbh. It wasn't false, it wasn't a police matter so I'm surprised they came at all, but it was a genuine complaint, even if not a police matter. It wasn't made maliciously either.

CanofCant · 24/07/2021 00:43

Ah missed update. Bunch of wankers.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 24/07/2021 00:43

What an excellent thread this is! Can't believe the police came out though.

AnyOldLion · 24/07/2021 00:43

@MNHQ Classics nomination!

Fiddliestofsticks · 24/07/2021 00:45

@pastafeend

When you have to lie to the police to make yourself sound like you've done the reasonable things first (like knocking on the door) then it starts to edge quite close to malicious. There complaint was that they had knocked the door several times and been ignored, and were blocked in. That complaint was false.

If they had told the police the truth, they'd have been told to go and knock the bloody door.

UftUft · 24/07/2021 00:45

Police came to make sure nobody was under influence, sorry forgot to add that. I started off majorly pissed off but I have to look at the bright side.
Probably was a good idea they came out, I'd have felt awful if they were drunk and caused an accident.

Well, they didn't knock, so how on earth was genuine? They completely and utterly wasted their time. Had they knocked, they could have fucked right off and the police could have done some actual work.

It’s the fact the police even attended. Round here if you get burgled all you get is a crime ref number. Not a visit!!
UftUft · 24/07/2021 00:48

We are in a relatively small area BTW, so not an awful lot happens round here.

That's decent of him at least. Presumably you didn't know him, so he didn't have to do that.
