Applying to Soho House

Awlondoner · 23/07/2021 10:44

Hi everyone! I am trying to apply to Soho House London at the moment, and have the backing of two proposers. I was wondering if anyone was a member, knew what the process was like? How long should I expect to wait to hear whether I have got in?

Thank you!

I really like going to Shoreditch House and Farmhouse too. Lovely.

Nesbo · 24/07/2021 20:52

@ LipstickLou with all due respect what on Earth has your mother’s opinion got to do with anything? It is utterly irrelevant.

I’m not going to give you my mum’s opinion. Or my dads. Or my aunt flo’s.

My boss is a member because she travels to London for work and wants to stay somewhere that has facilities for working and meetings, gym and leisure, an on-site restaurant and bar, basically a home-from-home for a couple of nights when necessary. I suppose she could get all of that in a nice hotel but that’s basically what Soho House is.

Lemonmelonsun · 24/07/2021 21:30

Make and age of car!!

Oh no!!

What on earth do they want to know that for!!

Cringe!

VodkaSlimline · 24/07/2021 21:30

Anyone up for a sub-thread where people who have actually been to Soho House(s) share their glittering aspirational experiences?

mine, in no particular order:

 1. some bloke asked for my number then messaged me creepy filthy sex questions until I blocked him, so much for mingling with cool like-minded individuals
 1. the food is mediocre and the chips are ALWAYS cold (this is true across various Houses and a period of several years)
 1. celeb spot: Eddie Izzard in the ladies loos wearing women's clothes ("girl mode" Hmm) - while I didn't feel threatened, I certainly felt it was unnecessary

They aren't terrible places, but it has definitely peaked. I wouldn't care if I never went again.

I've used them for events. The cinema is extremely comfy. The reception staff seem to cultivate an aura of posh disinterest.
Groucho is worse.

I used to like the roof terrace at Century but haven’t been there for years. What’s that like these days?

Lovetoplan · 24/07/2021 22:19

I went recently to the White City House and it really put me off. It was over loud, absolutely packed around the pool and the people seemed quite rough for an exclusive club. I wouldn't bother.

JanuaryJonez · 24/07/2021 23:10

My sister lives near to the White City SH and is a member of the original one. She recently went there and said everyone looked like Love Island rejects!

Like The Ivy, they are expanding exponentially and I think it's more grab sucker's cash than being exclusive IMO. Beware!

Sounds over exposed, and probably a little desperate in covid times.
I've only been to the non members side of the Dean Street, I really liked the interior and the green seating, and mostly the people watching. There was a hilarious American guy in there flapping a script around Moaning about it etc.

Yep, everyone who's been a member for longer than a year or two now seemingly goes just to moan about the clientele not being what it should be / used to be.

It's been like that for years!

Bryonyshcmyony · 25/07/2021 08:07

I can say hand on heart it's still lovely in the Dean Street one. The very idea of the Chiswick one makes me cringe though

Owl55 · 25/07/2021 09:48

Same here, waiting to hear from British Legion🤔

I go to both my local British Legion place and SH. Drinks are cheaper at the Legion but there’s always sport on the TV.

Just looks like a typical London co-working space to me, what's the big deal? They're pretty common now.

SourAppleChew · 26/07/2021 05:19

Soho House caters to the young, city-dwelling creative class, providing them with beautiful spaces in which to be young and creative together.

Reading the above and knowing that they're focusing on the

Dean Street had a vibe. Now I don’t work in London I think I may as well not renew.

Fizbosshoes · 26/07/2021 18:56
@YelloYelloYello I can’t speak for Soho House specifically but it’s quite common for members clubs to have cheaper prices for young people because they struggle more to attract them as members. My friend is a member of one and keeps trying to get me to join - at our age (26) it’s under £600 a year but it goes up every year until you’re over 32 at which point it’s almost £1500. Admittedly I do enjoy going there but still not sure it’s even worth the £600.

@Awlondoner why not ask your proposers since presumably they went through it…
completely different club but DH sports club has a cheaper membership for under 27s (I'm not sure what magically happens when you're 28) and used to have one for the over 60s....until they realised there were way too many over 60s to give them all a discount so they changed it to over 67, I think! Wombat64 · 26/07/2021 19:05

Just realised a family member has been showing off to me about their meals out, clearly went over my head...

Sk8ermum3000 · 26/07/2021 19:28

Given how many people just on this thread claim to have been a member of SH at some point……this is one tiny thread - a microcosm of London life….well it ain’t that exclusive?! Anyway, if you want to pay to limit your exposure and have to show your worthy level on an application form??? Wow. I’d rather not comment……
Oh and if the car question was genuine- I think the correct answer is that you don’t have a car (and definitely not a new one). You’re meant to be woke types who don’t pollute the environment…….
Good luck 😉

Essentialironingwater · 26/07/2021 20:14

Well this thread has been delightful entertainment. I'm no longer young and have never been creative but I don't understand the vitriol against people who want to spend their own money on a leisure activity. And I'm not sure how I ended up reading the unofficial Wikipedia page of a (probably fictional) philanthropic titled lady. Gotta love Mumsnet.
