Applying to Soho House

Hi everyone! I am trying to apply to Soho House London at the moment, and have the backing of two proposers. I was wondering if anyone was a member, knew what the process was like? How long should I expect to wait to hear whether I have got in?

Thank you!

@korawick12345

It’s because they want to attract young creative types, but young creative types tend to earn fuck all so they end up with a load of middle aged high earners which totally kills off any ‘coolness’ and so they are trying to o attract the young ones in.
This. The people I do know who work in creative fields in London think SH is for 'old' (ouch) people and/or tryhards.
fraddu · 24/07/2021 00:24

I don't understand the obsession here with people 'mixing' for the sake of it

I don't think that poster is talking about mixing for the sake of it. Take media, I think it should be more representative of the population but we know it's very London centric & not particularly diverse.

MissTrip82 · 24/07/2021 00:35

Is it a stealth brag if the thing about which one is bragging is terribly vulgar?

JanuaryJonez · 24/07/2021 01:49

Soho House is about to open in Brighton. We are not excited. The Ivy opened here a few years ago and if you search on Instagram for them it's very much orange tan/gangster wag sort of scene.

I think it's mainly out of towners who are seduced by all this, but I guess it lines their coffers and the wider amenities!

@dangermousespants

I thought the arts & creatives were full of posh people although granted they might not play polo.

I earn a very good living as an award-winning writer and actress and I'm from as working class a background as they come. Raised by a single mum who was mentally ill and an alcoholic, ran away from home and slept rough aged 15 to escape her boyfriends molesting me. Worked shit jobs to pay for drama school.

My career is 100% down to talent and sheer hard graft.

I like Soho House and most of the people I know who are members are ordinary people who happen to be good at acting or writing. My best mate just got an OBE and he grew up in a working class mining town near Nottingham. Not everyone in the arts is a posh wanker!

Why shouldn't people like me be allowed to have nice things and enjoy the money I've worked hard for?

Name one of the awards you’ve won.

@Fetasalad

The irony of a lot of posts on here sneering at wanting to join an expensive members club... you do get that means you're the snobs right?!
It really doesn’t.
garlictwist · 24/07/2021 06:10

Why not join David Lloyd instead? It sounds like the same thing. Rich people going to the gym and hanging out.

It's a real shame to see so much hatred and resentment of working class people working hard and wanting to spend their money on nice things.

but your implication that soho house members are all writers and actors is very wide of the mark!
I haven't. Other posters said Soho House was all posh arts and media types and I said not everyone working in arts/media is posh.

Name one of the awards you’ve won.
Evening Standard Theatre Award.

I can’t say nothing as my friends a member and I like the pool and service
It’s a strange vibe reminds me of the beach clubs in St Tropez

Hahah who said that soho farmhouse is variant of Center parcs

So true

Thisisworsethananticpated · 24/07/2021 07:47

Why not join David Lloyd instead?

It’s not cool enough , or at all !

ImbarbaraB · 24/07/2021 07:48

I genuinely wonder why anyone pays for the expensive membership when they do the cheap one which means you don’t need to be ‘sponsored’.

That alone makes a joke out of the whole members only club as I could book a room there myself and have no prior connection

ceeveebee · 24/07/2021 07:54

Reminds me of the time our media agency invited me to lunch at Shoreditch House (I’m in finance so not cool at all so had never been before). Got an Uber and was dropped off at this place by mistake, which the agency thought was hilarious…

My SIL has been a member since the start. She introduced a friend of mine but it took nearly 2 years to be accepted. He was not strictly speaking in the media though so that might have been why. They are perfectly nice places to get decent but not fancy food and drinks. Not a huge amount of atmosphere and the service can be a bit hit and miss.

ImbarbaraB · 24/07/2021 07:56

Worth a read for anyone thinking about paying for the expensive memberships. You really don’t need to - guestofaguest.com/new-york/nyc-society/soho-house-friends-membership

ImbarbaraB · 24/07/2021 07:59

It’s only £100 a year if you’re in the UK and you don’t need to wait years to be accepted

Why would anyone bother with the expensive memberships?

MolyHolyGuacamole · 24/07/2021 08:02

the existence of Soho Houses doesn’t prevent anyone from enjoying a pint of ale in their village pub or a litre of WKD in a Yates’s

I forgot that those were the only 2 options 🙄

MolyHolyGuacamole · 24/07/2021 08:03

it addressed a need, which was for people to go out and get shitfaced on nice cocktails without the risk of a sleazy city bloke cracking on to you, a Russian prostitute propositioning you, or someone trying to steal your phone/wallet/bag from your table

😂 went to a really nice bar last night, got shitfaced but none of those things happened to me sadly, how boring! Maybe the cocktails weren't nice enough...

GreatBigHooAndToodaloo · 24/07/2021 08:17

If anyone is up for a laugh. This insta account is dedicated to taking the mick out of Soho House and it’s members. Pure gold 😂

Handy for getting a late night drink. I'd rather be a member of a club than spend 6000 quid on a watch which is what another thread is about and seems to attract a lot less sneering

ImbarbaraB · 24/07/2021 08:29

The watch wouldn’t lose value though and would increase in value .
Membership can’t be resold

Thisisworsethananticpated · 24/07/2021 08:39

Why would a watch appreciate in value ? Off topic

mustlovegin · 24/07/2021 08:41

@ImbarbaraB Interesting. Is that only for the NY house?

fraddu · 24/07/2021 08:46

The friends thing doesn't allow house access unless you book a bedroom.

ImbarbaraB · 24/07/2021 08:48

@fraddu

The friends thing doesn't allow house access unless you book a bedroom.
Unless you live around the corner you would want a bedroom though

Soho farmhouse is quite remote and unless you’re a local farmer you would want a bedroom
