Neighbour has (accidentally) emptied pool into my garden!

My garden is completely under water! Was panicking trying to work out where from and spotted my neighbours MASSIVE pool (at least 12 ft) is up against the fence and is leaking fast into my garden from a puncture. I’ve tried phoning and knocking the door of neighbour but no answer, she’s probably in bed. The water is still coming and fast. My flower beds are under at least 8 inches of water and the pool isn’t even half empty! What do I do?

Pics or it didn't happen Grin

Seriously though, what a nightmare. I hope your garden is ok

2bazookas · 23/07/2021 14:58

Could be worse.

Years ago our oil tank broke in the night and discharged 500 gallons (££££££££) of heating oil downhill into next-door's garden.

@WorraLiberty

Bloody muppets with this kind of thing in gardens

Agreed.

I keep my 12ft pool in the spare bedroom...

😂

Bigger paddling pool craze prompts water supply fears
Yep, our local water authority have urged people not to use hosepipes to water their gardens, only watering cans (not an official hosepipe ban, but the water authority were struggling with the demand).
No mention of thousands of litres of water in a good proportion of waters in these above-ground mini-swimming pools that all the primary school children are being given, which would be the real reason for the huge extra water demand.

And sympathise with the pp - dear god, the screaming...

lockdownstones · 23/07/2021 15:20

btw these are 'above ground swimming pools' not just paddling pools. Huge craze come here from the US, I think....
Water companies need to formulate a policy on these.

Terhou · 23/07/2021 15:25

How's the garden today, OP?

MrsFlinch · 23/07/2021 15:30

As usual people are expected to accept poor manners from a neighbour! The very minimum the neighbour could have done is come round and apologise for the mess being created, the water will take ages to soak in as the ground it very hard. Keep knocking until they decide to acknowledge you

The neighbour did apologise, profusely and also offered to rectify any damage to ops garden!

We have an inflatable 12ft pool and I'm now worrying that we are being judged as "muppets" by our neighbours 😂

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 23/07/2021 15:43

Hey OPs. Enough of the muppetism. Angry

AlCalavicci · 23/07/2021 15:48

I am a little concerned that @Madwife123 has been washed away 😮

Water meters rather than rates would be a start
ahoyshipmates · 23/07/2021 16:54

@furiouslytyping

I doubt they've put chlorine into a 12 foot inflatable pool.
You are supposed to put chlorine in a pool that size.
Madwife123 · 23/07/2021 19:41

Sorry for late update. Looked much better this morning although some very soggy areas on the grass and the borders and now a moat. Mostly soaked in today but the borders seem to be holding the water. Going to go and poke the ground in a min see if that will help.

Madwife123 · 23/07/2021 19:49

To reiterate. Neighbour is lovely! Freak accident that she couldn’t have done anything about and she’s been nothing but apologetic and was up very late last night draining her pool completely.

This is how the border looks now. Mostly gone but seems to be settling in this one area and not budging.

Although I’ve just looked at my own photos and realised it is going down as the wall is wet higher than the water level so hopefully will be fine.

@Madwife123 I hope you have a pair of flippers a snorkel water wings and a life savers ring with your ace DS on the other end of the rope Grin

AlCalavicci · 23/07/2021 19:55

Please tell me I am not the only one that can see a dog in @Madwife123 picture , its back half is mottled and front half is dark brown with a whit strip on its head .

I think I may of caught the sun too much !

Ah you mean the dead dog floating in the water in the first picture?

I can see it, but when I did the 'ink blob' test at the psychiatrist I saw President Macron stroking a lobster, so you can't really count on me.

vintage21 · 24/07/2021 17:43

though these are lovely to use this is the downside of these pools, obviously, these can puncture burst and wear out

Hertsgirl10 · 24/07/2021 17:45

This happens in my garden every week at this time of year I just thought it was something to have to deal with.

That's very funny. Grin

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I remember been shown them as a kid and said so.eone had been 'black sick ' Confused

Toomuchtrouble4me · 25/07/2021 00:30

I’d love an inflatable pool that size - could you ask her where she got it? 😁

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 25/07/2021 10:16

If the pool’s beyond repair, can you give your neighbour this link? I’ve just heard about this company on FB & I’m telling everyone. They recycle broken pools, bouncy castles etc into waterproof bags. So much better than just binning it!

Madwife123 · 25/07/2021 23:16

@EmpressWitchDoesntBurn I’ve passed the link across.

Been staring at my photos and I see the dog! It’s actually bits of floating washed away plants.

Water all drained away and garden looks ok. Sunflowers didn’t make it except 1 that seems to be doing ok and my french lavender hedge has gone brown so I suspect it won’t survive but considering the volume of water not too bad.
