Neighbour has (accidentally) emptied pool into my garden!

My garden is completely under water! Was panicking trying to work out where from and spotted my neighbours MASSIVE pool (at least 12 ft) is up against the fence and is leaking fast into my garden from a puncture. I’ve tried phoning and knocking the door of neighbour but no answer, she’s probably in bed. The water is still coming and fast. My flower beds are under at least 8 inches of water and the pool isn’t even half empty! What do I do?

If it's just water it will drain away eventually and the flowerbeds will be grateful for a drink after the last few days. Hope it doesn't get in the house or shed though!
But many people put chlorine in their pools which is not such good news. Poor plants!

tiredanddangerous · 22/07/2021 22:51

I would keep banging on their door and shouting through the letter box.

Hellocatshome · 22/07/2021 22:52

If you're somewhere hot your garden is going to absolutely love you I think a lot of people are underestimating the amount of water a 12 foot pool holds.

HasaDigaEebowai · 22/07/2021 22:52

Keep knocking. You’ll have the best garden on the block though if yours gets a good water in this weather.

endofthelinefinally · 22/07/2021 22:52

You must photograph and video before entering her garden or touching the pool.

Megasausagehead · 22/07/2021 22:52

If you climb over you may get the blame for the leak.

Leave it.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/07/2021 22:53

Make a hole on the other side of pool to try and redirect some of the water. Probably won't help at this point, though.

I would be banging on their door until they got the hell up.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 22/07/2021 22:53

Can you and your son prop up the punctured side with something so the hole is above the water line?
Also I’d be banging on her windows and shouting by now.

OverByYer · 22/07/2021 22:53

Video it so you can show the damage it is doing

234Pepperplant · 22/07/2021 22:53

Probably not much she can do even if you can wake her - though if you think she’s home id keep banging the door. But I think she owes you for any permanent damage caused…

Is it likely to enter your house or just wreck your flower beds? Can you direct it towards any drains?

GrandmasCat · 22/07/2021 22:53

Fancy they can sleep through that!

Madwife123 · 22/07/2021 22:53

Ok son has pulled the plug on the pool and attached her hose to it. It’s still leaking into the garden but it’s now also draining into a drain on her side also so hopefully reducing the water coming to us.

OP posts:
MaryLennoxsScowl · 22/07/2021 22:54

There must be a drain in the pool somewhere - can that be unplugged if it’s in a spot that would mean the rest of the water draining away from you?

Bargebill19 · 22/07/2021 22:55

Not exactly helpful - but take as many photos as you can immediately. You may need to claim on their or your insurance for any lessor damage and repairs.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 22/07/2021 22:55

Can you smell chlorine?

justasking111 · 22/07/2021 22:55

I'd puncture the other side so it drains some on her side. Seriously keep banging on the door and phoning throw gravel at the window

Bargebill19 · 22/07/2021 22:55

Loss not lessor

wanttomarryamillionaire · 22/07/2021 22:56

Not sure what to advise about the actual water but on a side note my DS ( when he was a feral little 5 year old) slashed our 16000 litre pool and it poured out all over the garden. The water was highly chlorinated but all our plants and grass were absolutely fine if very waterlogged.

justasking111 · 22/07/2021 22:56

Shout FIRE 🔥 through the letter box

Madwife123 · 22/07/2021 22:57

@endofthelinefinally I’ve got photos and videos. Although hard to see in the dark.

@Megasausagehead Neighbours are lovely. I’m sure they will understand.

@234Pepperplant Unlikely to enter house as it’s a step up from garden and we have a soakaway around the brickwork. It would have to get pretty deep.

OP posts:
MotionActivatedDog · 22/07/2021 22:58

Definitely take photos. Was going to suggest slashing a large hole in the other side of the pool to drain into her garden but I see your son has sorted it.

Hope your garden isn’t ruined.

OverByYer · 22/07/2021 22:59

Well done son

Madwife123 · 22/07/2021 23:00

The flow seems to have stopped. Puncture is now above the water level but son is holding the side of the pool up to keep it there. Letting the rest drain out the intended way now. At least it won’t get any worse. Partner and son are complaining I’m useless being on my phone while they deal with this 🤣

OP posts:
Beesinthegarden · 22/07/2021 23:01

Chlorine dissipates in the sun which is why you have to keep topping it up. Hopefully your neighbours have not put any more in tonight. Unfortunately even with a hose draining it, it will empty much quicker into your garden. What a nightmare!

Beesinthegarden · 22/07/2021 23:02

Oh I see it’s now below the puncture. Thank goodness
