Neighbour has (accidentally) emptied pool into my garden!

My garden is completely under water! Was panicking trying to work out where from and spotted my neighbours MASSIVE pool (at least 12 ft) is up against the fence and is leaking fast into my garden from a puncture. I’ve tried phoning and knocking the door of neighbour but no answer, she’s probably in bed. The water is still coming and fast. My flower beds are under at least 8 inches of water and the pool isn’t even half empty! What do I do?

Here

Partner and son are complaining I’m useless being on my phone while they deal with this 🤣

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 22/07/2021 23:40

Of course they will have put chlorine in it - you’d get max 2 days of swimmable water without it, and no one’s going to spend hours emptying and refilling a pool every couple of days when they could just buy the chlorine tabs and ph strips.

OP good luck with your plants!

Nancydrawn · 22/07/2021 23:48

I agree with PPs: accidents like this happen, but it's so nice to hear two neighbours dealing with it like grownups. Credit to you and credit to her.

Teenagehorrorbag · 22/07/2021 23:50
@Teenagehorrorbag Fingers crossed!

The sunflowers have been completely washed away. They were planted right by where the water came in. I’m not worried about them but DD will be heartbroken if none survive as she’s been carefully tending to them.
Oh no! Can you find them and replant them - they might survive?

Madwife123 · 22/07/2021 23:52

@StarlitTrees I watched and offered helpful words of advice while my partner and son dealt with it. Although in my defence I’m recovering from an injury, not that I would have helped much anyway. My large backside wasn’t getting over that fence and there was nothing to be done from my side other than watch the water.

Sunflowers are pretty tough. I would replant them if they still have the roots attached and aren't just snapped.

Hopefully they will look sad for a few days and then pick up.

MrsFin · 23/07/2021 00:09

@MaryLennoxsScowl

Get in there and drag it away?

Drag a pool full of water?? Hmm

StarlingsDarlings · 23/07/2021 00:13

Glad your son managed to divert it. Your plants should be ok in this warm weather - it’s surprising how quickly the water will evaporate from the ground at this time of year.

Notebooksarefabulous · 23/07/2021 00:20

Im glad the neighbours have been so apologetic about it. Hope your garden isnt wrecked op.
I hate hate how much water those big pools waste - even when they arent accidentally flooding a neighbours garden!

Twoforthree · 23/07/2021 00:38

Nice neighbour.

OnTheBrink1 · 23/07/2021 00:40

@furiouslytyping

I doubt they've put chlorine into a 12 foot inflatable pool.
Of course they would have put chlorine into it? Who on earth would keep a 12ft pool of stagnant water in their garden 🤣 everyone who owns a pool that stays up over the summer puts chlorine in! I doubt it’s inflatable either. Probably steel frame
FortunesFave · 23/07/2021 01:50

Get a sharp stick or pole and ram holes into the garden away from the flowers so it's got somewhere to go.

Cocomarine · 23/07/2021 01:55

@ThisIsMyID

I know you're gutted about your garden. But realistically - what are you expecting your neighbour to do about a burst pool?
I’ve got a pump that will drain 1000 litres in about 25 mins. So if I was woken up, I’d get that in pronto and be at least alleviating the situation by simultaneously pumping water into my drain.
1forAll74 · 23/07/2021 03:03

You could have gone for a little swim in the pool whilst it was still a bit full.

Maggiesfarm · 23/07/2021 03:27

No need, she could swim in her own garden.

Sorry op, my poor attempt at a joke. I'm glad it's sorted now. Sorry about your plants but gardens are great survivors.

rosalie11 · 23/07/2021 04:26

Not just water if it has chlorine in it!

Sorry op no suggestions hope you get it sorted

rosalie11 · 23/07/2021 04:28

Don’t fall out with your neighbour over this though

Hallyup6 · 23/07/2021 05:12

I'm feeling quite sorry for the neighbour. Loads of people slating them for not helping but what exactly are they expected to do with a leaking pool full of water?! Gaffer tape it or drag it somewhere else? Don't make me laugh. The inability of some people to engage their brain is actually quite worrying. It'd had already had the plug pulled/hose attached and she's offered to sort any damage. Genuinely don't see what else she could have done.

Op, I hope your garden is ok this morning.

Really? Who is slating the neighbour for not helping? I can only see posts congratulating OP and neighbour for being amicable.
AlternativePerspective · 23/07/2021 05:38

y neighbour bought a 10ft pool this weekend for his DC to play in. It’s a wonder he fitted it in the garden because the gardens aren’t a huge amount bigger than that. Anyway he filled it up, he and DC and half the DC of the street spent the afternoon playing in it, had fun, etc.

Didn’t have chlorine in it so he emptied it with a view to filling it up again.

It hasn’t again seen the light of day and I suspect it won’t. Grin

As for OP posting on her phone while all this was going on. Not sure I’d be much more use if my neighbour’s pool had been leaking like that. And there’s absolutely no way I could ever climb their fence….

SpeakingFranglais · 23/07/2021 07:06

@endofthelinefinally

You must photograph and video before entering her garden or touching the pool.
Late to the thread by ten hours but this was exactly what I was going to say! Her insurance needs to pay for this.
SpeakingFranglais · 23/07/2021 07:09

Glad it’s sorted OP, hope the plants have survived the night

newnortherner111 · 23/07/2021 07:10

Your son and the neighbour's dog are to be applauded, and I hope there is not too much damage. The neighbour being apologetic is a welcome reaction.

Perhaps the warmer than average weather might be a help.

OverByYer · 23/07/2021 07:10

How is your garden looking this morning?
Good that you and your neighbour can deal with this amicably
