I love sunny weather, but I just cant with this heat. House is like a hot box. Have tried all the tricks with opening windows at night etc etc, keeping curtains closed in hot sun, but I'm sitting at my computer overheating. I miss the sea - used to live beside the sea and it was never this still, always a sea breeze. Anyone else want to have a moan with me

The heat can fuck right off now, I really like summer but this intense heat is too much, kids don't want to go out as too hot, dog panting all night, house like an oven, can't be bothered to do anything as sweat too much and it's exhausting.

People who love it or say the hotter the better are also very irritating 🤣

wordsareveryunnecessary · 22/07/2021 16:08

Last night was terrible. Had a quick shower about 2am. Been stuck in all week as it's too hot for activities

makingmyway10 · 22/07/2021 16:18

Enough already! I like a sunny day as much as the next person but this is oppressive and horrid. My house is not too bad it’s old and has lots of cool spots but the bedroom is not one of them. Trying to sleep at 29 degrees with no cool air is unbearable. I love the heat on holiday with air con and a pool but not here. I have done nothing all week except eat ice cream and feel horrid.

Can’t wait for the rain and the cool weather.

lazylinguist · 22/07/2021 16:32

YANBU. But it's still going to be 27° here on Friday. Not cooling down until Saturday. I can deal with it, it doesn't make me feel ill or anything, but I'd be quite happy if the temperature never went above about 24° tbh. I couldn't bear to live in a country where it's mostly like this or hotter from June to October!

LouLou789 · 22/07/2021 16:47

I absolutely bloody HATE this heat. Can’t sleep, muddle headed, tired, sticky, total YUK. So glad it starts to moderate from tomorrow.

Blerg · 22/07/2021 17:42

I hate Summer at the best of times and this is just misery. I have a condition which I recently read makes you heat intolerant. Yay… I hate the feeling of being sweaty and gross immediately after a shower.

Our house is a three story, in a town, just roasting. Can’t open the windows are night because my neighbours are noisy dickheads.

And yet when work emails say ‘Hope you’re enjoying the summer!’ I manage not to say ‘No, in fact it’s horrendous.’

I can’t wait for rain and more moderate temps.

I try to be happy for people enjoying it, honestly, but I genuinely don’t understand how they do so. It feels like constant mild torture to me. And I do wish we had a better infrastructure/ housing stock / whatever it is to cope because it’s only going to become more common.

Blerg · 22/07/2021 17:46

Oh also for those with headache it might an electrolyte imbalance due to sweating? But not really sure how that works but worth some research maybe.

31 here for most of today. It goes down slightly at night but still high 20s.

None of us are sleeping well. Momentary relief is provided by sitting fully clothed in the paddling pool in the garden and then lying on the hosed-down grass.

When we were house-hunting, MIL tried to persuade us to buy a house with artificial grass in the garden (looks smart, no upkeep apparently). Never felt more vindicated in not doing so... our friends have it and apparently their garden is too hot to sit out in.

ShitPoetryClub · 22/07/2021 19:33

The thermometer in our garden was at 39 at 5pm. We didn't believe it so took out the home hub controller thingy and it read exactly the same. It's never been so hot in our garden. Poor dog doesn't know where to put himself. We have shaved him short and keep spraying him with a mister.

CoffeeWithCheese · 22/07/2021 19:56

Greatest thing we ever bought was portable air con units for the bedrooms - can cope so much more if we get a good night sleep.

I've never ever coped well with the heat - even as a kid. DD1 is the same - she's just been flopped out all week - thankfully their class was sent home last week (before they joined it so we don't have to isolate) so they've not been in school through the worst of it - the school they've just left would have been absolutely hell in this (huge huge glass windows and one kids' classroom bakes in any sunlight)

WaitingForNormality · 22/07/2021 20:05

Yep - I'm with you on this!

I'm on maternity leave with my 7wk old baby who needs lots of cuddles all day and the sweat is hideous! Luckily last year I purchased a portable air con unit so we have pretty much been cooped up in one small room with that on full blast for the past week - terrible for the environment and our energy bills but the baby is just miserable if he's too hot and won't drink etc.

I'm all for sunny, bright weather but the lower 20s are fine for me!

sassafras123 · 22/07/2021 20:07

At least you will get a break from the heat. Longing for coolness and rain /thunderstorm. But here its getting hotter 32 on the weekend and around 30 all the rest of summer. Urrgh ! Absolutely hate it.

EmoIsntDead · 22/07/2021 20:14

I was born in a hot country so this weather feels fine to me. I can finally lord it over friends and colleagues who don't feel the cold as much as me in winter. Wink

I've been looking forward to today's lower temperatures all week. 19 they said... Check the weather app this morning and it's now 28! It can piss off. I'm not made for this!

CaptainCorelli · 23/07/2021 07:54

I’ve always hated it too. It was so much better not having to wfh in it yesterday though. It’s so much cooler staying outside than in our house, so we alternated between the huge paddling pool and stayed under the umbrella in the shade. Back to wfh today in our boiling upstairs room though 😩.

HappyWipings · 23/07/2021 11:13

It's much more bearable today. I've just been out for a walk with my 3 year old , its warm and sunny but also breezy in London.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 23/07/2021 11:22

24°C today

phew. much much better. I've actually got the sewing machine out to finish some blankets that I couldn't have touched yesterday!

it can stay this temp & sunny forever.

nokidshere · 23/07/2021 11:51

22° with a light breeze here. Perfect at last!

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 23/07/2021 12:08

23 here and a bit cloudy....🥳 And tomorrow 21 and rain... so happy....🤣
Dogs happily chasing each other round the garden rather than lying with a fan on them.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 23/07/2021 14:15

It's been/is lovely today. The car thermometer read 19.5°C when I was driving home. The classroom I was working in this morning was cool and when the door was open there was a nice, gentle, refreshing breeze. It's the same at home now so I'll finally be able to sleep tonight!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/07/2021 14:18

23 but feels so much cooler as gorgeous breeze perfect weather!
