Who has flouted the rules over Covid app ping and carried on regardless, still mask wearing and keeping a social distance ?
Would you ?

I've followed every lockdown and isolation pretty much 100% but I have broken an isolation this week by taking my son out who was on the last day of an isolation from school. It was something pre booked that couldn't be moved, risk was minimal and I know who tested positive and my son hadn't been in contact. We have all done regular lateral flows but I accept that it was a breach even though the risk of going out was probably higher to us. I've deleted the app. We've missed out on so much through being careful and my kids have really struggled mentally so I want to try and get them out and about now after spending more time in isolation the last year or so than we have being non isolated.

StripyHorse · 21/07/2021 13:55

@Aqua55

I won't be isolating, even if I had symptoms
And here's why we are in this mess a year and a half in!
BoomChicka · 21/07/2021 13:59

I've never had the app, so never had the issue.

Wannakisstheteacher · 21/07/2021 14:04

@Aqua55 thanks for that. This whole misery will have been for nothing if selfish fuckers like you exist.

CremeEggThief · 21/07/2021 14:07

It's not breaking the rules.

I can't understand why so many people still have the app. I deleted mine last Autumn.

Fkar1 · 21/07/2021 14:10

Can I ask why everyone is deleting the app and not following guidance? What if you DO have covid 19 and you're passing it on?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and haven't had the jab at all, as advised by my Dr and Midwife who suggested after 20 weeks or after the pregnancy is over.

And you do realise that pregnant women are more vulnerable and more likely to get quite sick from the virus? So why would you risk putting other people in hospital?

CremeEggThief · 21/07/2021 14:23

The app is just guidelines, not legally enforceable and it has been shown time and time and time again to be unreliable. The reason I initially deleted it was because we were told at work to turn it off on our phones unless we carry our phones all the time, which I don't. For me, it was much easier to just get rid of it completely than having to faff about constantly turning it on and off.

Speaking for myself, I would only isolate if officially contacted and told.

I am thinking now that a lot of people must still have the app because they actually don't mind being pinged to get a couple of weeks off work, because it makes no sense to me that so many still have something that's more or less useless.

Because it's completely unreliable and quite frankly useless?
vodkaredbullgirl · 21/07/2021 14:58

Don't have the app, as I do lft every shift I have to work and do pcr once a week.

Darbs76 · 21/07/2021 15:04

Can’t believe someone is saying they won’t isolate if unwell. You will if you feel like I do trust me as you won’t be leaving the sofa (and I’m double jabbed). Completely and utterly selfish when there’s vulnerable people out there unable to be vaccinated and for anyone really as Covid is bloody awful

I deleted it because I think it's unreliable. I go to work and the supermarket. If anyone gets a positive test in the workplace we all isolate regardless of app. At the supermarket I am careful, quick and keep to the 2m rule, I still wear a mask. I don't think that the app picking up someone potentially further away leading to yet another isolation is helpful. In turn we do LFT every 2 days and I think this is going to be more effective at preventing me spreading than the app.
Wejustdontknow · 21/07/2021 16:41

I deleted it last week, we currently have 57 people isolating from my work and are on the bare bones of staff. I am double jabbed and have had covid in the past few months so the chance of me catching it again whilst I have some natural immunity is very low. I also wouldn’t be paid and can’t really afford 10 days at home without pay right now. If I had any concerns that I had been near someone I would do LFT’s to make sure but won’t isolate unless contacted directly by test and trace

Manhattanferry · 22/07/2021 09:36

On the whole, looks like basic common sense is the main thing. If you get called up by Track and Trace or are showing symptoms then isolate for sure. I am glad I deleted the app though. Will continue with hands/face/space. Thanks all.

ilovesooty · 22/07/2021 09:43

The app was never mandatory but for someone to say they wouldn't isolate even if they had symptoms is breathtakingly despicable.

Abraxan · 22/07/2021 09:44

I have the app for check in but have contract tracing turned off.

It's only advisory from the app and, infact, the message you receive has changed recently.

If T&T contact you then it's legally binding and you must isolate.

Abraxan · 22/07/2021 09:45

@Aqua55

I won't be isolating, even if I had symptoms
And that's why it's spreading so quickly.

It's probably why and how I caught Covid, which put me in hospital and put me out of work for 7 weeks.

Selfish behaviour.

Kayjay2018 · 22/07/2021 09:48

@manhattenferry only you can make the decision. I just completed a ping isolation on Monday, not fun but that was my decision. If you are not going to isolate then maybe a daily lft test would mean if you are asymptotic (by any chance) then you have a chance to pick it up before you go out. I was listening to the radio yesterday and a number of nursery staff have been accepted on the trial to do daily lft instead of ping isolate and the outcome seemed good and that no staff had had a issue

RumHoney · 22/07/2021 09:54

I wouldn't necessarily isolate completely but I would try to stick to only going out for solo outside exercise, not doing anything inside and keeping my distance from other people as long as I had no symptoms.

Luna2021 · 22/07/2021 11:56

Christ, it's all very well for those who have been double vaccinated isn't it? For those going out and about after being pinged and/or having symptoms - very, very selfish. Do you just not care about others?

I'm pregnant and whilst I'm continuing to be sensible it's people like those above that really annoy me. What if I catch it from some idiot and my unborn child is impacted?

Fkar1 · 22/07/2021 12:01

Completely agree with you @Luna2021

People have become so selfish.

I was advised to wait until after 12 weeks.

I completely agree with your point. The implications of having covid in pregnancy (especially in later pregnancy) are awful and can be detrimental. Selfish people who aren't even bothering to isolate when showing symptoms really, really bothers me.

MarcelineMissouri · 22/07/2021 12:02

It’s not flouting the rules because it isn’t the rule that you have to isolate if you are notified by the app, only if you are contacted by test and trace.

I don’t have contact tracing turned on on my app anyway and haven’t for some time. It seems ridiculous to me that it gives you no information, not even a proper time frame for what contact you had so no way would I be isolating just because of the app.

Would you at least be tested if notified?
MarcelineMissouri · 22/07/2021 12:10

@Luna2021 to elaborate on my previous post, if pinged I would definitely be mindful I’ve had possible contact. I am already in the habit of regular testing because I work in a school. I am also continuing to wear a face mask in shops etc anyway.

I just wouldn’t stay in my house for 10 days.

Itsallthedramamick · 22/07/2021 12:18

Slight tangent but for those that have deleted the app, how do you respond when you are asked to 'check in' by someone. For eg, I was at a softplay today and they said I had to check in via the app. I assume they wouldn't let me in if I refused??
