Face masks

Ineke · 20/07/2021 18:29

Having just read a thread about someone asking AIBU to ditch my face mask now that it is no longer the law I am not surprised that there are a few people out there who need it set in stone, in law to do the right thing. Even after we are encouraged, advised and expected to wear masks in crowded indoor spaces, they still think ‘it’s not the law’ so I will do what I want. They have no conscience or care for other the people they put at risk. The Government has made it our responsibility to think how we behave, could we not show them that we can act responsibly or do we really need to be bound by a law which I will lay bets on will be reinstated in the Autumn. As will vaccine passports to gain entry into crowded indoor venues.

@TerritorialPissings

The government themselves have said there is no proof that face masks prevent transmission, but that they are a tool to keep everyone mindful that there is a pandemic. So you crack on…there are many other better ways you can help stop the spread, but if you think a gaping cheap piece of fabric will do it, that’s great 👍
This.

Facebooks do nothing to prevent transmission of any virus. The virus is miniscule in size and will easily pass straight. through the fabric. Face masks are a form of virtue signalling and a tool for control.

Face masks not Facebooks

fertilitybs · 21/07/2021 09:35

@Toomuchspinning

Please, PLEASE, piss off to the Coronavirus board. Have we not had enough armchair lectures on here already?
🤣🤣

Double jabbed, will continue to wear a mask in busy indoor spaces - and I have to say that the majority of people I've seen in those places since Monday seem to be doing the same. I'm not fearful. I've never been particularly fearful of Covid for myself. But there are still quite a number of unaccepted, including children. I know they're lower risk of serious illness and hospitalisation, even without vaccination, but cases are still rising and viruses behave in ways that science tells us to be wary of. Epidemiologists are telling us that it will take the easiest route to continuing its existence - young people are therefore unprotected so it stands to reason a number of them will end up in ICU. That includes children. I support mask wearing until all those over 18 have been offered the vaccine and we reach some level of herd immunity that naturally protects our children in the absence of them being offered a vaccine.

Whatafustercluck · 21/07/2021 09:40

unvaccinated not unaccepted!

Whatafustercluck · 21/07/2021 09:42

Should have said until over 18s have been offered and given time to get double jabbed.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 21/07/2021 09:46

The new so called temporary ways have become too familiar, and most people are addicted to the familiar

Ive spent 51 years of my life not wearing a mask…I don’t wear them outdoors, I don’t wear them in my house, I don’t wear them while eating or drinking

Wearing a mask isn’t ‘familiar’ in the slightest

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 21/07/2021 09:51

Actually

Its just occurred to me (ok ok i can be very slow) that these threads remind me of the brexit threads

Masses of rude posters on both sides, insulting everyone who wears a mask or everyone who doesn’t…..other posters rising to the insults and insulting back, both ways

No nuance, no use of the word SOME

And a load of posters floating round the middle asking people to just be ‘nice’ (me)

I don’t think its good for my blood pressure (which reminds me that I haven’t taken my tablets this morning) so I’m gonna try my hardest not to post on these threads ever again 😀

(Like all new year’s resolutions and diets i start i guesstimate I’ll be back on by tomorrow)

Youdiditanyway · 21/07/2021 09:53

I’m still wearing mine, most people I’ve seen around and about still are too. Some people have always refused to wear them all along and claimed to be exempt so there will inevitably be a lot of people still refusing with the law now also on their side. DH’s friend’s wife won’t wear one because she’s claustrophobic Hmm.

I don't know why you have the "hmmm" face there. It's well known claustrophobics may absolutely have issues with having face covered...
INB4 · 21/07/2021 10:12

If I'm not legally obliged to do so, I shan't be wearing one, unless a specific business wants me to.

millymollymoomoo · 21/07/2021 10:51

Shan’t wear one
I’m double vaccinated
Those elderly and vulnerable have been offered - if they chose not to vaccinate, up to them. And let’s face it’s the vast vast majority of 18-30 don’t need the vaccine as rusk to them is extremely minimal . it’s only the goalposts keep effing changing as govt make stuff up as they go along

If you want to keep wearing a mask crack on

And we should all be concerned about covid passports but of course people are blindly going to accept those too! Bloody disgrace

VladmirsPoutine · 21/07/2021 11:05

There's a very specific type of entitlement only afforded to certain people who are able to say confidently "I WON'T WEAR A MASK, IT'S NOT THE LAW." A very specific type of person.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 21/07/2021 12:34

Putting a mask on and off my face involving adjusting it around the nose is more likely to spread any virus than just sanitising my hands and keeping them away from my face.

Why has everyone got so hooked on the bloody mask when it was made clear from the start that it wouldn’t help, could actually cause more issues than it solves and the single use ones discarded and strewn about the place are an absolute eyesore.

If all non-mask-wearers are selfish anti-vaxxers then all mask wearers are gullible litter louts.

Or maybe, just maybe there’s some nuances here where people have thought about the risks and benefits and made a decision based on the information available, rather than blindly following whatever whim the hypocritical government twats are spouting this week.

You have no idea what type of person anyone is. Prejudging someone’s entire character based on their view on one topic is very narrow minded of you.

I have no idea what type of person you are from your post, other than your view on covid and mask wearing. I don’t know which political side you err towards, what your views are on Brexit, whether you’re kind and generous, whether you have specific personal circumstances which inform your opinions etc.

Please don’t think that you know anything about the “type” of person who will or won’t wear a mask.

And as for the PP insisting that only alcoholics would choose not to wear one up thread with her delightful anecdote about a man in the supermarket, ODFOD. The only 2 people I know who are totally against masks are both tee total and are at opposite ends of the political spectrum to each other.

Some of the most sanctimonious pricks I know who bang on about saving the NHS drink a bottle of wine a night and more at the weekends. Selfish twats.

MostlyMaple · 21/07/2021 12:42

I've ditched mine, apart from in medical settings.

The track and trace app has gone too. Good bloody riddance.

TurquoiseDragon · 21/07/2021 12:49

I thought my town would ditch en masses, but no, most people have carried on using masks, me included.

CounsellorTroi · 21/07/2021 13:05

I'm in Wales and wearing masks in retail spaces, on public transport and indoor public spaces will continue to be the law for some time.

UsedUpUsername · 21/07/2021 13:12

Lol at all these people who think masks actually work. They don’t protect anyone, if they did we wouldn’t be in this situation halfway through 2021.

Well they do in combination with other things. None of it just works by itself. The situation of the Plague Island isn't because these precautions wouldn't work....
Snoozer11 · 21/07/2021 13:42

I don't think there are any acceptable reasons not to wear a mask. I don't believe any "exemptions" are legitimate.

Twokitstwokats · 21/07/2021 13:43

Google the Swiss Cheese theory. Doing just one thing only reduces the risk slightly. Mask wearing, plus vaccination, plus social distancing, plus good hygiene all reduce risk significantly.

The key word being reduce not eliminate.

You are lucky to not be able to think of any. Means you have not had any experience with the very real and traumatic reasons why some people are unable to wear a mask.
