Chin hairs

They are the bane of my life. Anyone else? Never had them when I was younger, but I pluck them, use hair removal cream, dermaplane and so on yet they’re back a bloody day later.

OP posts:
Fizbosshoes · 20/07/2021 09:45

I used to have 1 that grew from a mole on my chin.
All the other moles got jealous (prob about 5 of them) and started joining in a couple of years ago!
The chin one is the meanest and a bit bristle. As soon as I know it's there I have to get the tweezers. If theres a white hair they're extra stubborn.

Imagine my horror when DH used my tweezers to take some bones out of some fish he was preparing!!Angry
I have lots of pairs now. The slanted ones are one of the first things I pack when going away!🤣

starfishmummy · 20/07/2021 09:47

It's when you check before going out and there aren't any; but get to your destination and there is one about 3 inches long that was not there before!!

Face masks are brilliant for hiding them.

Gazelda · 20/07/2021 09:50

@Gazelda

Would electrolysis work on very, very blond hairs? I know that laser won't. Or should I get a Lumea? I use tweezers and a springy thing at the moment, but it never feels completely smooth.
I've just answered my own question about the Lumea. It won't work on red, very blond, white or grey hair. But for anyone interested, they have a Philips Lumea for half price on boots website at the mo.
hangryeyes · 20/07/2021 09:50

I’ve had mine since puberty (and I started early), though they are much worse post-kids in my late 30s. I’ve had blood tests at various times but never found a specific cause… they really reduced when I lost a lot of weight in late 20s and I’m at my heaviest/they’re at their worst now so maybe it is weight related?

TamarilloTrifle · 20/07/2021 09:51

@Gazelda I don't know about electrolysis but the Lumea is a IPL and only works on dark hair, so it wouldn't be any use to you.
From their website:
Skin tone and hair suitability for Philips Lumea
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment works when the energy of the light is absorbed by melanin (a type of pigment) in the hair. Since light blonde, grey and white hair do not contain enough or any melanin, IPL treatment will never work on these hair colours. Red hair contains a different type of melanin, which is also not responsive to IPL.

Musmerian · 20/07/2021 09:57

@tropicalwaterdiver - excess facial hair can be associated with PCOS but it’s a very normal part of hormonal changes. Peri/menopausal women are v likely to have chin hairs.

Hallyup6 · 20/07/2021 10:03

God yes, I'm almost 40 and over this last year they've sprouted from nowhere. I keep tweezers in my car and sit there plucking them whilst waiting for my kids to come out of school. I don't care who sees me. The lighting is better in the car than the bathroom.

OhGiveUp · 20/07/2021 10:31

I have a beard to rival Santa Claus if I don't have a proper wet shave with shaving gel and razor while showering each morning.
It started with just a couple in my 30s, now a full on beard in my 50s. 😭

Walkacrossthesand · 20/07/2021 10:34

My theory is that they sort of coil up under the skin, so when they finally sprout, there's half an inch of the buggers. 😡

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 20/07/2021 10:39

Mine appeared with the menopause. It's as if your pubes migrate. The lady-garden thins and the chin... Well.

Anordinarymum · 20/07/2021 10:42

I get them too and they tend to grow at the side of my mouth and on the goatee bit and along the bone from my chin to my ears.

I have to check every day and then pluck to keep the buggers at bay. Some are white and some are black. They are all incredibly strong.

If I use Veet or similar it makes my skin go red and I need to calm it down with Tea Tree. The cream only removes the hair from the skin surface anyway.

clary · 20/07/2021 10:45

@Justcallmebebes

I'd have a full, and I like to think rather impressive goatee, if I left mine.

That's also my nightmare scenario, being in hospital or otherwise incapacitated, without tweezers

oh god yes. If I was on desert island discs tweezers and a magnifying mirror would totally be my luxury. In fact with all that time on my hands I would be super groomed once rescued 😂😂
queenMab99 · 20/07/2021 10:46

Depilatory ceam doesn't work well on mine and I hate the stubbly feel the next day, I used to have a system of bleaching until long enough to wax, but now I am old they are mostly white, and grow faster, so I wax at least weekly, and pluck out strays daily, my mustache is worse than my beard. Face masks are a boon to me Grin

rookiemere · 20/07/2021 10:55

I've been plagued with these most of my adult life - suspect I have PCOS.
I had electrolysis on my 20s that seemed to keep them at bay but didn't get rid of them.
I then had some laser sessions a few years ago - that really helped but was quite a faff getting to them.
I have a Lumea but it doesn't really seem to do that much - maybe one less hair every few months- it's a bit disappointing

Sallycinnamum · 20/07/2021 11:02

I tried the Lumea and had mild success with it but not life changing.

Just don't use the springy tool, which was recommended on here. I used it last summer and ended up pulling out the blonde wispy ones and now they've grown back dark so now I've got more to get rid of!

rantymcrantface66 · 20/07/2021 11:11

I have 2, they are friends and pop up beside each other regularly. Never seem to grow gradually, just no where to be seen one day and there like magic, fully grown the next. Same with the guys who are either side of my upper lip. These are finer so disguise themselves til they are quite long but are darker than any other hair on my body

mummumumumumumumumumum · 20/07/2021 11:11

I only have a couple but it drives me mad that they are not there and then BAM they are an inch long

DianeCherry · 20/07/2021 11:17

Oh thank god it's not just me

EngelbertsRumpispink · 20/07/2021 11:36

I now have a lot wild upper-lip hairs, rather than chin hairs.
All my other body hair is light, but these suckers are dark!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/07/2021 11:55

If I can be arsed/hold my nerves, I get the fuckers waxed off in one at a salon. However, thanks to the joys of Covid closures (thank fuck for face masks), I started using DP's Philishave as my skin wasn't appreciating wet shaving, going very red and tender despite being incredibly gentle. The skin is much healthier, there's no damage caused to it from having to use the electric shaver daily and it reduces the change in colour enough that a single coat of progressive tanner once a week cancels out the blueness.

I also dermaplane occasionally for the rest of my face, but for me, electric shaving more regularly has been the best for preventing unexpected inchers and keeping my skin in good condition.

AutistGoth · 20/07/2021 11:58

Hopefully this will make you all laugh at my expense and cheer you up a bit.

One day, I couldn't find any of the three expensive pairs of tweezers that I know I own. I was tearing the house apart looking for them. I finished up plucking my eyebrows and fine moustache with a pair of my jewellery making pliers! Grin It worked, though.

33feethighandrising · 20/07/2021 12:11

I got fed up with all the time consuming methods a few years back and simply shave them off now.

I had a mental barrier to doing that as it felt too manly! As a feminist you'd think I'd have known better!! But I dropped that nonsense when a friend with PCOS told me she shaves hers all the time.

I have too many hairs to pluck them, I shave the offending hairs on my chin every morning, so much easier, cheaper and less time consuming than faffing about with hair removal creams etc.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 20/07/2021 12:12

I just have the same one that grows back. I've nickname it Mildred.

AutistGoth · 20/07/2021 12:30

Your username, combined with giving a face hair an actual name has just had me chuckling!

Not at you, just at your sense of humour. Smile

@Thechainsmokers12

They’re relentless, the stubble is back after a day. All the hair removal we’re expected to do as women..
