My mother always insisted on "Seasons Greetings" because she was so worried about offending anyone who potentially might not be having a happy Christmas. It was always, "Oh, no, Mildred's budgie died in April" or "Beryl's boiler's playing up" .

Is that foreign for "merry Christmas", Liesel... ??

Never mind the message, more of an issue for me is finding cards that have pictures of anything vaguely religious on the front. And I'm not particularly devout, either, just a traditionalist. And why do so few Advent calendars with nativity scenes have chocolate as well? Do Christians not like chocolate, for goodness' sake?! Finally discovered one from Fair Trade last year, but fancy a change. DD has put in a request for a High School Musical calendar this year. AIBU in saying 'Over my dead body?'

I can't believe the claim that it's 'arrogant' to send non-christians a Christmas card!

I think fircone's mum sounds sweet. My own card weirdness is finding it hard to send 'Get Better Soon' cards to people in hospital when we all know they sadly won't... what do you do? Hope you feel better soon maybe.

And really, most people just open up envelope, maybe admire the picture and read anything handwritten, and say, oh, theres the one from aunty x without analysing the printed greeting at all.
