Should I just eat the Chinese?

I just had a knock on the door and when I opened it a woman was standing there with a bag. She handed it over to me, said thank you and disappeared down my drive. All I said in reply was ‘thank you’ too and closed the door. It didn’t really register until she left and when I realised it was as food my first thought was that DP had ordered me something (he has been out all day and has eaten with DS and knows I’m a bit hungry). I asked - he didn’t.

I opened then bag - Chinese food. Well, prawn crackers on the top at least. I haven’t delved into the rest. I don’t know what to do with it! No idea where it came from (definitely not deliveroo for example), or how it’s ended up here. Not a tourist area. Not close to the park. Admittedly we don’t have a house number as it blew off in the most most recent heavy winds and it’s not replaced yet. But each of my neighbours do!

So - what do I do? I’m not going neighbour trotting to find out the recipient so do I eat it or leave it on the kitchen service?

@Thewiseoneincognito

I’d be worried about it being poisoned. No chance I could eat food of unknown origin.
Ironic user name. Not wise at all to think like that.
TheKeatingFive · 18/07/2021 22:49

I just wouldn't trust what's in it

Same as any takeaway food surely?

Not really. There are takeaways and takeaways... All establishments are not created equal 😂 Some are dodgy in the extreme.
LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2021 22:51

Dude you've all watched too many films if you're worrying about strangers poisoning you ...

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 18/07/2021 22:53

Ask your ndn, it's hers, she is knocking on your door right now.

JackGrealishIsMyNewManCrush · 18/07/2021 22:53

@TrixieThunder YABU to not have shared it with us. Angry

Well there aren’t any takeaways in my area I wouldn’t eat from. I am definitely on the less neurotic end of the spectrum compared to some on here however

Good for you. Let's hope op lives in the same area...
BeHappyAndSmile · 18/07/2021 22:57

Oh I'm glad you ate it op. Very jealous, I never get accidental Chinese food delivered to me Sad

headintheproverbial · 18/07/2021 22:58

If you're hungry eat it. You letting it go cold and congeal on the side isn't going to get it to its rightful owner or save the restaurant any hassle!

Well thanks for the heads up. Username confirms why they ordered chips over noodles or rice.

I’m really wishing I took I pick before tucking in for authenticity. I have leftovers though if I need to confirm?

I love Chinese takeaway chips. They have a singular quality, chunky, soft, greasy and delicious.

NotMyCat · 18/07/2021 23:05

This happened to a work colleague, he posted a review in our local FB group saying the 4 pizzas were delicious but he wish he knew where they were from Grin
No menu, no note, no neighbours missing food. He ate them

Newjobnewstart · 18/07/2021 23:08

Happens to me all the time. I live at say 9 high street then just off my street is high road. We constantly get food deliveries, if kids answer the door they take it in and im left chasing the driver 🙄 once was even when we were eating dinner door went and eldest came back with pizza. I just send the drivers to 9 high road.

Justme10 · 18/07/2021 23:09

@ChocOrange1

Probably very outing (sorry original ordered!) but: two portions sweet sour chicken, chicken balls, chips and prawn crackers So funny that this could be outing - probably the most common Chinese food order ever Grin I would be a bit disappointed to be honest OP. I know its free but no rice? Chinese takeaway chips are always grim and are probably cold by now and the sweet and sour is the worst thing on the menu. Call them back and ask if you can have a free duck with ginger and spring onion or some capital ribs 😋
I have to ask what are capitol ribs? Saw them on a menu for the first time this week and had no idea what flavour they would be Grin

And apart from dominos, no takeaway near me gives a receipt or puts menus in the bag anymore.

Livpool · 18/07/2021 23:15

Ooh that sounds delicious- we have no snacks so wish a takeaway would be accidentally delivered here!

We nearly got free pizza once - but it was 'pay on delivery'. I was debating on paying as it smelled so nice til the delivery driver mentioned a Hawaiian pizza 😱🍾

BruceAndNosh · 18/07/2021 23:16

The sad thing is you've just eaten the best ever Sweet and Sour Chicken but don't know which takeaway place it came from so you never have it again

NotMyCat · 18/07/2021 23:16

@Justme10 I think they're the crispy ones and in a sort of plum sauce

AdobeWanKenobi · 18/07/2021 23:16

In all my years of ordering from half a dozen local Chinese restaurants I am yet to have either a menu or the receipt sent with the delivery.

One of our local ones sends his son with the food as he waits in the car. Son is about 6 and utterly adorable.

Maybe it's a London thing 🤷🏻‍♀️
Justme10 · 18/07/2021 23:20

@NotMyCat thank you, the name gives no indication of what they could be Grin
Not for me though, much prefer dry spare ribs with some lemon squeezed on

Wheresmycheese · 18/07/2021 23:25

But the silver lining is she has 10 Chinese takeaways within delivery distance so for the next (potentially) ten Fridays she can order from each of them to determine which one is was from!
NotMyCat · 18/07/2021 23:27

@Justme10 it's weird, the descriptions of some things are so vague that you're sort of expected to know what it is!
I ordered from a veggie Indian place recently which was great as it had little descriptions under everything (and they did a set meal/thali for £9 which was huge)

TheKeatingFive · 18/07/2021 23:29

God I want a Chinese now.

Preferably a free one. 😆

Justme10 · 18/07/2021 23:30

@NotMyCat I love places that do little descriptions so I can try something new, it's so disappointing when you order something new and don't like it.
