Chris Whitty suggesting that another lockdown could be on the cards, after all this ‘irreversible’ talk.

Once again, Manchester has pretty much the highest rate of infection.

Masks still to be kept as compulsory by many establishments like Sainsbury’s, in medical centres and likely on public transport too.

Cases are at their highest in months, hospitalisations and deaths are on the increase too.

I feel like it’s last summer all over again. Things will continue to rise and then rule of six and so on will be brought back. Local lockdowns for Greater Manchester and the other usual areas and then a national lockdown by October.

All the “I’m postponing my holiday to 2021” people are now “postponing to 2022.”
Will you be doing it until 2023?
It’s harder to go abroad now than it was last year when we had no vaccines.

When is this going to be over?

Dontdripme · 16/07/2021 18:38

I don’t Chris Witty actually said thatConfused I am so over it all.

amission · 16/07/2021 18:38

Masks are NOT compulsory in Sainsbury's or all public transport, just 'encouraged'.

stellaisabella · 16/07/2021 18:39

It can't go on forever, Covid is never going away. The flu never went away. Once everyone is double jabbed we really need to get on with it.

Trinitykb · 16/07/2021 18:40

I’ve had emails from my doctor’s surgery and even from a beauty salon saying masks will still be compulsory. I’m sick of it all, I shouldn’t read the Daily Mail I know as they just sensationalise everything. But I really thought normality would be back and I’m wrong.

Trinitykb · 16/07/2021 18:41

I agree, it shouldn’t be too long until everybody is double jabbed. However one of the ministers on TV yesterday, Helen Frazer I think she’s called was stating that restrictions would be ‘absolutely’ brought back if necessary.

Actually tfl have said it will be compulsory on London transport, I made a post about it but basically got told to shut up

I won't patronise any business which makes masks compulsory when they don't have to. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Anywhere people don't have a choice not to attend like GP surgeries etc I will wear one if asked.

PumpkinKlNG · 16/07/2021 18:42

After Monday will still be compulsory just to clarify

Trinitykb · 16/07/2021 18:43

It’s frustrating seeing the elites and celebrities get to travel around for ‘work’ and do what they like basically.

Cowardly tory government giving us the choice whether or not to wear masks

This will result in more hatred between strangers and conflict in public places.

Make a decision and own it Bozo!

Yes that's why I said not compulsory on 'all' public transport.

Greater Anglia for example are strongly urging masks but won't enforce.

Trinitykb · 16/07/2021 18:44

Yes exactly, it’s just going to cause a lot of conflict.

Actually its the mayor of London who made the decision and TfL ate obligated to follow it through

I agree, it's a mess.

I'm not surprised people are anxious and wanting to continue with masks.

I won't give anyone a hard time for doing that and I expect the same in return when I ditch mine

PumpkinKlNG · 16/07/2021 18:46

Same thing

amission · 16/07/2021 18:47

@Dreamstate

Yes, TFL don't want to have to enforce this. I feel dreadfully sorry for their workers who will be facing so much hostility over this mess.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 16/07/2021 18:47

School run = masks still compulsory and bubble rules unchanged
Public transport = masks still compulsory
Local pool = all swim sessions must continue to be booked in advance.
We are now allowed to use the shower after. That’s the only change to my world from next week.

No, not compulsory on ALL public transport unless you're talking about your own usage only.

Don't know about the rest.

amission · 16/07/2021 18:49

Sorry @AnotherDayAnotherCake I misunderstood your post

Doh!

MordredsOrrery · 16/07/2021 18:49

But the pandemic isn't over, so normal won't return just yet. It's also a global pandemic, it's all very well politicians saying half the population in our country is double jabbed, but you need most people globally to be double jabbed. And double jabbed means you can still catch and pass it on. You can still develop long Covid, which is a pretty hideous add-on you don't see with seasonal flu.

If the country moves slowly and carefully we'll get out the other side, but 'freedom day' isn't about the end of the pandemic or public health, or moving slowly and carefully, it's about the end of a rift between the government and some of their more vocal supporters.

It's really, really hard to be in the middle of this though ☹

Trinitykb · 16/07/2021 18:49

I tried to book swimming online and it was like trying to get blood out of a stone.

Sainsburys haven't said masks will be compulsory, just encouraged. I don't imagine that many big companies will be making masks compulsory, they are all about making money. Small businesses may but I guess that is their choice, I won't be using any that choose to.

I only hope that my workplace (hospitality) aren't going to try and force staff to wear masks. I can see them doing it as a "look how caring we are keeping our customers safe" bullshit show (all about making money though of course) 🙄😴

MadisonAvenue · 16/07/2021 18:51

I’m with you OP. I’ve felt really low all week, I also expected naively that things would be better by now, especially now it’s Summer. After all, numbers were dropping down low and the vaccine roll out was a huge success but now it just feels like we’re back to the start again.

My son went back to work this week after having to isolate when a colleague tested positive and this afternoon my husband’s been pinged due to a colleague having Covid.

amission · 16/07/2021 18:52

Well post-viral fatigue has been a thing for quite some time now
