To put weedkiller in a water pistol and nuke neighbours lillies?

Obviously I won't. I just want to vent.

Next door neighbour is a gifted gardener. He grows monster lillies. Each plant is 7-8 feet high (it's above the fence). The plant nearest my house is right next to the fence and about 2 metres from my back door.

I can count over 20 budding flowers already in the bit above the fence. There are at least 6 of these plants..maybe more. So I would estimate that each plant must have up to 80 flower heads. That's 480 liliies.

Its hot and I need windows open but I'm sat wheezing and I've got a headache. I never have to take my inhaler apart from now.

My house stinks of them.

Can I nuke them? Please 🙏 😁

@AntiWorkBrigade

Just had to comment that that photo on the first page with the lilies looming under a merciless-looking sun is wonderfully sinister.
They ARE sinister! 😬😆

Would you like to dictate what this neighbour has for dinner too?

The world does not revolves around your ailments.

They smell like horse shit to me. Really repulsive stench. Almost like rotting flesh.

Most white flowers have that note. jasmine does, tuberose anything white and tropical. It's something called indoles that causes it.

RampantIvy · 17/07/2021 18:09

Interesting. Maybe it is genetic because they don't smell of horseshit to me.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/07/2021 18:13

Some people are more susceptible.

Same with Daphne, some people smell a very pronounced wee note, some cannot.

Tunnocksmallow · 24/07/2021 15:40

Op I was in solidarity with you. Nuke the lily fuckers for all I care.

dolor · 24/07/2021 15:47

You really need to tell him that they're making you ill.

Well small update.... Lovely 'John' mentioned his prize winning lillies the other day and I was brave and told him it was giving me an issue with my asthma..in the nicest way I could. He initially said he couldn't do anything about it but I did politely ask if the ones nearest to my back door were in a container. So he has moved that plant ...it is now about 30 cm further away. ConfusedGrin

I tried. It has been a miserable week with the heat. The house reeked the other night... I ended up shutting the bedroom windows and it was 30 degrees inside. So glad it's cool today and I can shut the back door at least.

John isn't very nice then.

Phyllis321 · 24/07/2021 16:15

This might be a stupid suggestion but could you fix a trellis or some sort of screen to the top of the fence to extend it by say 10 inches?
I know it won’t stop the pollen but it might waft away higher and irritate you less.

GrrrlPwr · 24/07/2021 18:07

John is a selfish git. Well done for trying
