To put weedkiller in a water pistol and nuke neighbours lillies?

Mumteedum · 15/07/2021 21:22

Obviously I won't. I just want to vent.

Next door neighbour is a gifted gardener. He grows monster lillies. Each plant is 7-8 feet high (it's above the fence). The plant nearest my house is right next to the fence and about 2 metres from my back door.

I can count over 20 budding flowers already in the bit above the fence. There are at least 6 of these plants..maybe more. So I would estimate that each plant must have up to 80 flower heads. That's 480 liliies.

Its hot and I need windows open but I'm sat wheezing and I've got a headache. I never have to take my inhaler apart from now.

My house stinks of them.

Can I nuke them? Please 🙏 😁

Most certainly not, flowers are lovley, besides if the person is an expert and detailed, soon as you attempt sabotage they may suspect something, then there is cctv to consider, then also the chemical mixes and required chemicals that would be needed to successful lly sabotage the plants, ect

Why didn’t you intervene after she killed the first blackbird? Surely you didn’t just sit there and do nothing?

So now is someone else’s fault the cat killed the birds?

The brass neck of that…

Who said it was anyone’s fault? I’m just pu astounded that someone would sit and watch a cat kill two birds and not intervene after the first one. I would have done.
MegaCityOne · 17/07/2021 00:22

I bloody love you op for the weedkiller water pistol combo idea! I have now come up with a plan for tacking some weeds that I can’t reach. I shall load it with vinegar and dish soap for eco friendlier alternative.

Lilies are foul things. They were grown for their very strong smell to cover up the smell of bodies decomposing in funeral parlours. 🤢

TurquoiseBaubles · 17/07/2021 00:42

But at least ask him.

I love my garden, but I would have no problem moving any plant if someone just asked me.

I've just dug up all the foxgloves in my front garden as the local kids like picking the flowers (I've told them they can).

Most gardeners are nice people. But if you don't tell him, how can he know?

@RampantIvy I use something similar to this https://lloydspharmacy.com/products/lloydspharmacy-allergy-reliever?currency=GBP&variant=32060079996991&utmmedium=cpc&utmmsource=google&utmcampaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1ZafuKzp8QIVDpCyCh3zpgzcEAQYASABEgIQEED_BwE

Hope link works, I'm using app. It's not blue light therapy it's red light 🙄

I can't recommend enough, normally I have to go on steroids my hay fever is so bad. Anti-histamines don't touch it. But using this has changed my life!

It's not woo there is research and studies behind it. Although to be honest even if it was woo, I'd use it as it def works for me!

FredaFox · 17/07/2021 07:38

I can't believe so many people hate lilies
They are my favourite
I have them in the house (pollen removed) and currently have several pots of them in the garden
Luckily my neighbour also has them in his garden cos by the sounds of you lot I'd be expected to dig them up, in a word, no

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/07/2021 08:17

It's not hate for hate's sake. My grandmother had the most beautiful white lilies and I loved them. Not sure whether is the modern varieties that are bred for scent, but they give me an instant migraine now.

Your DGM might have hade Madonna lilies which are completely different. The scent is heavenly (my granny’s sister had them in the garden)
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/07/2021 08:45

Maybe, they were definitely white and didn't give me a headache.

She was a great gardener, I miss her very much.

Ilovecaviar · 17/07/2021 11:38

Great thread lol but in all seriousness, just talk to him. Explain that although you didn’t mention it last year, it’s taking it’s toll this year as you can already feel the effects and you’re allergic and can he move them to the other side at least. If he doesn’t do that with them being in pots, then he’s a dick.

It is well known that lillies in particular can give people headaches and worst case, be really allergic.

chesirecat99 · 17/07/2021 14:01

@redfairy

Where are all these long legged cats that can brush up against lilies then lick their polleny fur? Tosh! Always had cats, always had lilies and no-one has died yet
On a table with a vase of lilies cut to cat height, usually.

The risk is miniscule outside as fallen pollen will get blown away by the wind and the flowers are above the cat. I suppose if you had a lot of dead flowers on a patio and the cat laid on them...

chesirecat99 · 17/07/2021 14:03

@Tinpotspectator

I hope those are lillies and are not datura.
Datura don't look anything like lilies. They have different leaves and the petals are fused.

Or regale lilies. One of Beverly Nichols' garden books mentioned them, and he said they had a very strong scent.www.bing.com/images/search?q=regale+lilies&qpvt=regale+lilies&FORM=IGRE

bebarkered · 17/07/2021 17:25

Nuke the fuckers OP! They almost killed my cat.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/07/2021 17:28

I looked it up on Google.

They were Madonna lilies, perfect white.

I must also add that Grandmother never had cats and I don't remember seeing a single cat in the garden. Grin

bluebeck · 17/07/2021 17:30

Oh God I hate the smell of lilies - they smell like cow shit.

I would have to move.

AntiWorkBrigade · 17/07/2021 17:34

Just had to comment that that photo on the first page with the lilies looming under a merciless-looking sun is wonderfully sinister.

RampantIvy · 17/07/2021 17:36

No they don't @bluebeck. There is no need to be so melodramatic Hmm

bluebeck · 17/07/2021 17:40

LOL - yes, they smell like cow dung to me Grin

Absolutely horrible.

jagoda · 17/07/2021 17:42

They smell like horse shit to me. Really repulsive stench. Almost like rotting flesh.

I wonder if it's a genetic thing....
