AIBU to think people with continual coughs shouldn’t be allowed in a restaurant at the moment and to be annoyed a restaurant allowed someone with a very obvious cough dine there?

My late DM had a heart condition that gave her a continuous dry cough. She would have been most upset if it meant that she was barred from restaurants because of it!

Lucyk1 · 16/07/2021 18:10

Yes, you may have read 'do not turn up if you have covid symptoms'... But you didn't ask the person dinning if they too a covid test before they went to dinner. For all you know they knew they had a cough and still went to dinner but they actually know why they have a cough. That advice if for people who have symptoms and haven't taken a test. Another reason that none has said for coughing is long covid. People who have recovered but still have that symptom. I should know as my kid has been coughing for 8 months now, and believe me, you wouldn't want to be the dinner guest glancing over at me judging

vickylou78 · 16/07/2021 18:12

Op don't the rules state 'a new continuous cough'?
Also if anyone had developed a new cough (like my husband who has a chest infection and athsma) he has been PCR tested and is negative just in case to rule out covid so he doesn't have to isolate. Or he'd have to stay in for months on end. Asthma coughs after a chest infection last ages!!

Bonjourfern · 16/07/2021 18:14

Don't be ridiculous.

Thereluctantgrownup · 16/07/2021 18:15

Think you should just stay at home OP 🤦🏻‍♀️

Saztoot · 16/07/2021 18:16

I have hay fever and a cough all year round, had it for years, I will never be allowed out 🙄

ilovemygirls · 16/07/2021 18:17

Don’t be silly. My daughter used to cough every time the seasons changed… a friend of mine also has cancer & coughs quite a bit. I’ll let him know he’s not allowed in restaurants shall I? Hmm

knickerstwickers · 16/07/2021 18:29

I have severe asthma. I spent most of last year shielding, I lateral flow test twice a week for work and I've been double vaccinated since April. It would be perfectly acceptable for me to not wear a mask but I wear one (relevant to the next bit). When my asthma is playing up I cough. A lot. If I'm wearing a mask I take it off (to take my inhalers and try and calm my breathing down). I am sick to the back teeth of judgemental twerps thinking MY asthma is going to kill THEM! Nobody asks if you're OK though, they just judge.

And I (and all the other chronic coughers) have just as much right to go to a restaurant as you or anyone else.

PinkiOcelot · 16/07/2021 18:32

You do realise that you can actually have a cough without having COVID don’t you OP?!
Read up. Educate yourself!!

bg21 · 16/07/2021 18:36

@Andrewsgirl

Bit of a difficult thing to establish though, whether it’s new or old cough !
not for the person who's coughing because of an illness that's not covid that they've had for years that's literally not your business at all lol stay the fuck at home
Alicenwonderland · 16/07/2021 18:36

My son has ASD and Tourette's. A cough is often one of his tics. He's already highly anxious going out, he was even more so due to his cough! Thankfully we haven't encountered anyone who's questioned him, that would be enough to make him unwilling to leave the house at all! I really wish people would think of others a little more.

Leedsfan247 · 16/07/2021 18:36

I have a cough caused by hay fever - I’ve had Covid and am double jabbed, would you ban me??

Thebig3 · 16/07/2021 18:37

Exactly this!!!

I am in the same boat as you and I am sick of judgmental people thinking my severe asthma is gonna give them covid!

I think everyone has forgotten that other conditions/illnesses haven't gone away just cos of covid!

i've been coughing for 30 years because of Asthma.. is that new?
Rosebel · 16/07/2021 18:41

Honestly if you're so scared don't go to a restaurant. I had a lung infection recently and still cough from it.
I'm paranoid as I work with the public and take lateral flow tests twice a week and it's always negative. Doesn't stop the judgy looks or abusive comments though.
I'm very much of the opinion that if you are that worried or think every cough means Covid then you should stay at home.

fairgame84 · 16/07/2021 18:43

YABVU
I have acid reflux and cough all the time and have done for 12 years. No way am I going to hide away because some people are too stupid to realise that not every cough is covid.

Zelaidee · 16/07/2021 18:44

COVID comes with so many other symptoms and no symptoms at all
And other symptoms do not include cough like we only had a mild diarrhea. So better stop dining out if a cough causes such disconfort

GoodbyeToCare · 16/07/2021 18:45

I get regular heart palpitations that make me cough even though I have medication to manage it. Am I banned too?

CrankyFrankie · 16/07/2021 18:47

Hm. How about, trust that someone with a continual cough knows what their issue is, has isolated and taken a pcr if needed, and isn’t a complete cunt that would deliberately go out and infect a restaurant full of people? Eejit!

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 16/07/2021 18:55

I think some people need to loosen up a bit.

LoveFall · 16/07/2021 18:58

It is very hard these days to cope with a cough due to asthma for exactly this reason.

Turquoise123 · 16/07/2021 18:59

A bit shocked by this … hay fever ? Asthma? And all the other reasons.

Zipperdidoodaa · 16/07/2021 19:10

Oh for gods sake! Get real!
