Police riot vans have just broken up a brawl in my town centre

I’m disgusted.

I’m glad we didn’t win. Car alarms everywhere. Friend was in Manchester centre with her partner and there are apparently riots starting up there and she was terrified getting her taxi home.

I hope they're all bunged in the slammer. Leave them to sober up.

Has your dad calmed down now?

MrsTrustice · 12/07/2021 00:44

Yes he is back. Don’t think he wanted to be out with all that’s going on. My parents usually get on lovely and it’s a once in a blue moon thing they have a row but they were both gutted and seemed to be having competitive misery and pissed each other off.

I’m praying nothing wakes my 11MO up. I feel a bit sick. On an earlier thread I defended football but even now I’m struggling to want anything to do with it ever again

I am in Manchester town centre. It is very quiet. I just heard a fox.

MrsTrustice · 12/07/2021 00:47

@movingadviceneeded.

I’m getting footage from people who are there of fireworks being set off, glasses being thrown from pubs etc

There are brawls in town centres every weekend.

I’m sorry it’s not a good night to be out and about . The fact domestic violence goes up 38% when England lose has me worried for so many people .

hawkehurstgang · 12/07/2021 06:29

It's not THAT big of a deal. Just drunk idiots being drunk idiots. No different from any other weekend in a British town centre.

KarmaStar · 12/07/2021 06:51

You must live a very quiet life op.That is normal on a weekend night.Especially after such a big game.
Not sure what your dad was doing though.😊

Clancey · 12/07/2021 07:01

So was it the dad who was causing the trouble then? 🤔

That’s it OP, don’t just kick us when we’re down, hammer us into the ground.

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 12/07/2021 07:10

Blaming 'football' for antisocial behaviour fuels your own agenda. It's the availability of alcohol, normal weekend in major cities

SemiFeralDalek · 12/07/2021 07:17

It's like that most weekends in the centre of Manchester.

girlmom21 · 12/07/2021 07:19

Have you ever been on a night out before?

Police riot vans and brawls are fairly standard.

We deserved to win the football and it's sad that we didn't. It has nothing to do with the videos your friends are sending you.

Unanananana · 12/07/2021 07:25

Its like something out of The Purge in my town most weekends. Last night there was a hammer attack just before 6pm.

Scenes like that, and the ones at Wembley make me embarassed to be English. The huge rise in domestic violence due to bloody football, even more so.

Illogicalmadness · 12/07/2021 07:53

If the FA had banned all home fans from attending the final, then that would have sent a strong signal that shit won't be tolerated. After the laser incident, it was expected that the fans would step it up a level. The racism is endemic and spreads like wildfire, add the alcohol and violence erupts. It's a tinder box situation and has happened for so long that the FA can't get a handle on it because they've ignored it for so long.

Illogicalmadness · 12/07/2021 07:55

More needs to be done in schools as well. There is a kid in my dd's class who doesn't like playing with any child who isn't white English. Dd says they're quite open about it and teacher doesn't do anything and pairs them with a white kid in class. Confused

The huge rise in domestic violence is not due to football, that's an excuse that keeps being trotted out its due to people being violent.

Bloody hell, which town is this?
Noterook · 12/07/2021 08:02

Admittedly less so with nightclubs etc closed, but Manchester Centre is usually like that on weekends, don't think I've ever been out and not seen riot vans and pockets of trouble. Not saying that is acceptable either, but it's a men drinking issue rather than solely a football one imo.

Yes I keep seeing the stats collated in 2018 shared on social media, but people are silent every other day, do they really believe that men who are usually not abusive snap just when football is on? Thst these women are safe otherwise, and its just when a game is on they decide to unleash hell. It should be an issue that's always highlighted, because it's heartbreaking every day.

Don't blame the football, this happens a lot over the weekends, alcohol can cause aggression in people and many consume to excess. Just ask the police if they're quiet over the weekends normally...

That's appalling!
Do the other parents not take it up with the school? Surely it's an issue that impacts on their own children, regardless of what colour/race they are?
The fact that the teacher is being seen to tolerate/ accept it also impacts on all the other children too. It sends a strong message that racism is acceptable.

TiddyAndFletch · 12/07/2021 08:21

It's on BBC News that some of the England players are being targeted with racist abuse online:

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57800431

I know not all football fans are like this, but those who are disgrace our country.

Bythemillpond · 12/07/2021 08:42

I am failing to see where all this stuff was happening

Watched a couple of videos which didn’t match the dark and rainy night it was

Said it was unticketed fans at Wembley. I know Wembley and if a fan was unticketed there wouldn’t be crowds of them stood on Wembley Way

There might have been brawls and stabbing but there are brawls and stabbing without football being involved.

The bbc reported on the racism directed at players. Not brawls because of the football

It’s difficult to see what the teacher could do beyond saying that these views are unacceptable.

I certainly wouldn’t want to be paired with a racist if I were a BAME kid. I was the good child paired with the disruptive ones, but at least they didn’t pick on me - just prevented me from having a good friend to sit with.

Exactly this. Abusers abuse and alcohol is the main trigger. Not football.
