Police riot vans have just broken up a brawl in my town centre

I’m disgusted.

I’m glad we didn’t win. Car alarms everywhere. Friend was in Manchester centre with her partner and there are apparently riots starting up there and she was terrified getting her taxi home.

@Secondbellini

Are we all supporting BLM and the abolition of the police or not then?

Should all these police and riot vans disperse?

Erm no, I think people are more hopeful that men will stop being violent and causing mayhem after a few drinks.

@Clancey no it was a storm in a teacup, MrsT's dad was finding the football tension a bit much and stepped outside for a while. To be fair I went to my bedroom for a bit as I couldn't bear to watch.

It was really quiet here despite being the centre, there were a few roars during the game but no signs of violence afterwards. A few ruin it for the masses.
@Geamhradh I didn't see that, surprised that it would happen on MN.

I do feel a slight sense of relief that it's over as even I got caught up in football fever like loads of others. Shame that for some it trips over into violence.
The whole thread was deleted eventually. People posted on the Nightwatch to draw attention to it as nobody was responding to the reports (it was late)

What a very stupid comment. It is possible to not be a racist and also to support the work of the police. It's not a "do you want tea or coffee" choice. You're actually allowed both.
Secondbellini · 12/07/2021 19:17

Possibly it was a crass comment, but BLM supported police abolition throughout their protests.

That was in America, wasn't it? The 'defund the police' stuff didn't really gain much traction here.

FWIW, I'm a copper and was on the riot van for the semi finals, I was off last night but there doesn't seem to have been any more than the usual disorder we'd get pre-lockdown.
