AIBU to call our new puppy Socks?

I am getting a new puppy after a long break without a dog and my children have said they don’t like the name I had chosen for her - Socks. My other half joked about her socks (she has cute little white paws) when we first met her and for me it just stuck. My older son said it’s a cat name and you can’t call her that. My older daughter and younger son are now agreeing with him!

I think it’s up to me what I call my dog - neither of the older two live at home now and I will be the one with full responsibility for the dog.

Is it such a bad name for a dog?

The only dog we know called socks is a whacking great Boxer. Definitely not telling him he has a cat’s name.

My mums name is Shirley and sisters Sue so probably not those - although they were good suggestions! Thank you to those that say it’s my choice - that’s what OH says - he basically said F them - it’s not their choice.

That’s funny! She is a little cutie and won’t get too big - so I think she will always be cute.

It’s definitely a cat name not a dog name. It won’t sound so cute on him when he is a grown up dog.

Sex has e sound and socks has a o sound how on earth can they sound the same - I've tried saying them out loud and there really is no similarity.

Socks is a traditional name for any animal with ‘socks’. ANY animal.
I used to have a dog called socks, suited him fine !

Does she have white back feet too? If not, surely she should be 'Gloves'??

FYI there’s a new cartoon on CBeebies called Bluey which is becoming more popular. One of the characters is called Socks.

I like the name, but just in case you wouldn’t want something associated with an Australian cartoon dog

Horses can be ‘Socks’ too, I’ve met a few.

It most definitely is a cat name. Name him frank or bert, the two names my dc discounted without a second of thought
