Do you sit or stand when you have the jab?

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 12:30

Not had my first jab yet and going today. Pregnant and incredibly anxious about it. Want to minimise touching anything with any part of my body (yes I know I am over worried, saying it really won't help) and was wondering if you stood up or sat down when you had yours? The thought of sitting on a possibly covid infested chair is making my skin crawl.

Also, if you're meant to sit, can you ask to stand?😐

YABU - I was sitting down
YANBU - I was standing up

@Remoulade

Nope, but what I do affects most of you in your every day life. That's all I will say Grin
Yeah. Me too. Many of us will. But, if you’re ill, you’re ill. It’s irresponsible not to take the time.
HollaHolla · 11/07/2021 22:42

But I do hope you feel better soon. I was fine after my first, but in bed for 3 days after the 2nd....

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/07/2021 22:43

@Remoulade - if it has been 2 hours since the paracetamol, you could take some ibuprofen - that might help. You can alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen 2 hours apart - obviously you don’t want to do this too often, but for this evening, it won’t hurt.

Remoulade · 11/07/2021 22:45

@HollaHolla

Well, I won't be mixing with anyone so if I do manage to drag my arse to the other room tomorrow I will. My arm seems to have gone numb now though.

I might just take some ibuprofen. Tends to give me a stomach ache though but I guess that would be the lesser of the evils at this point.

very gnostic.

hedgehogger1 · 11/07/2021 23:00

I stood didn't get an option

Ekofisk · 11/07/2021 23:01

Don’t take ibuprofen on an empty stomach.

Hope you don’t feel too rough.

Funnylittlefloozie · 11/07/2021 23:01

A covid-infested chair? Are you getting your jab naked, or something? Just put your pants on, sit down and you'll be fine. Also, might be worth having a chat with your GP about your anxiety, because that's not normal at all.

QuinionsRainbow · 11/07/2021 23:05

Sitting down, saw chair being disinfected first.

Don't take ibuprofen when pregnant.
Remoulade · 11/07/2021 23:13

That's only if you're past 30 weeks isn't it?

Didn't have any yet either way, don't worry. I realised it's about 50 steps away, so it may just as well be on Mars.

OP posts:
8dpwoah · 11/07/2021 23:18

Nope, all the ay through, it's just more of a potential issue if you're past 30 weeks.
Good to see your health anxiety doesn't extend to finding out basic things about keeping healthy while pregnant, I find the NHS website quite helpful.

WheresMySnackPack · 11/07/2021 23:18

I done a headstand.

Just kidding Grin although wish I could!

Just stand if you want to. They won't mind.

Seated by they anti bac’d it before I sat in it and then anti bac’d the ones in the monitoring area afterwards

Stood up for both of mine.

Wincher · 11/07/2021 23:48

I was told to sit for my first and stand for my second, so it does vary. But I also volunteer at a vaccine centre and one of my jobs was cleaning the chair in between people. It’s all super clean, don’t worry!

saraclara · 12/07/2021 00:07

I volunteer at my local vaccine centre. All the chairs (waiting, vaccinating and post-vaccination waiting) are wiped down with antibac as soon as each person vacates them. It's pretty much the only job the volunteers in those areas have. They watch like hawks, ready to swoop in with their wipes!

I don't know why people are so mean to people with phobias and anxiety about germs. It's hard enough living with that level of fear without people jumping in with nasty comments when it has absolutely no impact on their life. It's always the same, for some reason people are so offended by people with a phobia of germs. This level of bullying would be unacceptable about any other mental health condition.

Zilla1 · 12/07/2021 12:43

@WrongWayApricot some people's posts might have been bullying (HNRTT) though some might have been trying to provide a reasonable alternative view to the OP. The OP sometimes seemed to recognise her phobia 'over-worried' though some posts seemed to indicate she thought she was right and the world who didn't agree with her was wrong. As the OP is pregnant and behaviour is picked up by DC then some PPs seemed to be trying to help though a true phobia isn't easy to manage or change if indeed the person wants to. FWIW, I think the OP's later statements around her work probably didn't engender sympathy not that she should need to.

Some people would be very upset be their comments I'm sure. I truly do not care though.

Some people on this forum are great people, always ready to help other women and seem like genuinely lovely people that anyone would be lucky to have in their lives, I would say.
But the average mumsnetter is... well, something else and I will leave that there. 😂

I will say though, I do not have health anxiety. If I did, I would worry about every ache and pain. I don't. I just try to have some control over what happens in my life.
I see no reason to touch things more than necessary. It's all very well cleaning your hands when you get home after touching door handles and traffic light buttons, but by that time you've likely been on your phone, maybe had a Costa, scratched the corner of your eye. Why get yourself sick for no reason?
Yes, I worry more than the average person does, which isn't that hard when the average person seems to be shouting at the government to open everything up even though the cases are going up at an alarming rate, even when the deaths were in the 100s every day.

They were shouting at them to open up in May -20 as well, because it was so difficult to not do this and that. Who cares about the lives of the vulnerable right? I saw over and over again how it was only the old and frail, so why did we have to lockdown? Like the grandmother or the 40 year old father of 3 with a health condition simply didn't matter...

When my kids do drag home colds and stuff, that's just the way it is. It doesn't even mean me or my husband will catch it.
My husband has had colds in the past without giving it to me and the other way around, even though we kept kissing like normal.

I'm sure you will all be very happy to hear I jumped out of bed feeling absolutely fantastic (except for a very achy arm) this morning.

And people were right about the chairs being wiped between uses. We were asked to turn them after we were done so they knew which to clean, though of the other people I saw there, I was the only one who bothered to do that🤷‍♀️

I'm not in the UK and I DID have to wait 15 minutes.
